Blizzard announced a visual update for Overwatch hero Anran, scheduled for April 14, 2026, alongside Season 2. Game director Aaron Keller said her original in-game look did not fully convey the fiery, fierce older sister the team intended. The available sources confirm criticism and a redesign, but do not verify the headline claim that hundreds of complaints prompted it.
Why Blizzard is changing Anran’s design
Keller said Anran had not fully landed as “the fiery and fierce sister of Wuyang that we hoped she would.” He described the intended character as confident, determined, fierce, and a natural-born leader. The update was meant to shift her away from what Keller called a “baby face look and expression” toward a more sincere, mature presentation. Those phrases were reported from Keller’s video by Game Developer; they are not independently hosted as a transcript in the official sources reviewed.
Criticism described in coverage focused on a perceived mismatch between Anran’s face in the game and her earlier cinematic or comic appearances. Some players felt the in-game model looked younger and less distinctive, and compared her face with other Overwatch characters. A February 9 post on the Blizzard forums captured one player’s concern: “I’m feeling uneasy about the difference between Anran’s face in the cinematic short and her in-game model.” That post is an example of individual feedback, not evidence of what all players think.
What changes are being made to Anran’s appearance?
Reporting on Blizzard’s announcement says the revision changes her eyes, eyebrows, mouth, and posture. Coverage also describes darker facial shading, freckles, more defined cheeks and jaw, a more focused gaze, and a raised eyebrow. These are reported design details; they do not by themselves establish whether players will find the new model more successful.

The concerns and reported changes can be compared across a few elements:

| Mouth, cheeks, and jaw | The mouth is among the areas being revised; coverage also describes more defined cheeks and jaw. |
| Skin details | Coverage describes darker facial shading and freckles. |
| Posture | Posture is one of the elements the update addresses. |
When the redesign arrives—and how it differs from gameplay changes
Blizzard announced the visual update for April 14, 2026, the launch date of Season 2, according to Game Developer’s report. Blizzard’s Season 2 patch notes, dated April 14, list separate Anran gameplay adjustments. Those balance changes are distinct from the appearance redesign.

Does “hundreds of complaints” have a confirmed count?
No. The sources reviewed establish that Anran’s design drew criticism and that Blizzard announced a visual revision, but they do not give a complaint tally or explain a method for counting feedback. “Hundreds” should therefore be treated as headline wording, not a verified number.
Blizzard’s hero statistics do not fill that gap. Its Weekly Recall: New Hero Numbers reports an 8.2% ranked role queue ban rate for Anran on European servers in its Season 1 new-hero comparison. The same report describes her win-rate ratio as near even in a comparison covering February 16–March 1, 2026, for PC, all ranks, and all regions except China. Ban and win-rate figures measure gameplay, not complaints about appearance, and do not establish why Blizzard made the redesign.
