What’s in Overwatch’s “Defiled Anthem” line?
Kenneth Shepard reported for Kotaku on October 5, 2026, that “Defiled Anthem” is a China-only cosmetic line featuring Shion, Kiriko, D.Mon, Reaper, and Emre. The report highlights Shion’s skin as the most feature-rich item described.
Shion’s evolving skin

Why are players outside China objecting?
The criticism described by Kotaku has two strands: regional exclusivity and perceived design quality. Why is the line China-exclusive?
Kotaku places the cosmetics in the context of Blizzard’s publishing relationship with NetEase in China. The article quotes Walter Kong, identified as head of development for Blizzard’s live games and mobile division, describing market-specific activities as part of NetEase’s publishing approach. As Kotaku reproduced it, Kong said in May: “I think NetEase has the responsibility of publishing our game in China, and part of their approach is to do things that are specific to that market.”
Kong also said the approach should make players feel cared for across markets and described reviewing future events holistically. That explains the rationale as he presented it; Kotaku’s report does not reproduce the underlying Blizzard–NetEase agreement or establish its specific terms.
