The difference between those reactions makes sense: the remake’s appeal is largely in revisiting a straightforward 3D platformer with updated presentation, not in discovering a substantially redesigned game. If you enjoy uncomplicated, nostalgic platforming, the familiar approach can be a plus. If you want varied level ideas or a modern overhaul, the recurring design and modest changes may wear thin.
What kind of game is it?
Released on August 26, 2022, Pac-Man World Re-Pac remakes the 1999 3D platformer. Bandai Namco’s premise has Pac-Man return for his birthday to find that the Ghosts have kidnapped his family and friends. He travels through six areas of Ghost Island and faces Toc-Man. Bandai Namco’s product page lists NOW PRODUCTION Co., Ltd. as developer and describes it as a single-player game.

Modes and core play
- Quest Mode: The main platforming adventure, with collectibles, power-ups and moves such as the butt-bounce, rev-roll and hover jump.
- Maze Mode: A set of 3D mazes that adds a different kind of challenge to the platforming.
- Original Mode: Clearing Quest Mode unlocks the original PAC-MAN arcade game.
Those extra modes and collectibles give players reasons to explore and revisit stages, though they do not change the core criticism that the adventure can feel repetitive.
Is the Switch version a good choice?
MeriStation contributor Ricardo Fernández rated the Nintendo Switch version 7.5/10 in a review published September 24, 2022. He found the platforming accessible and enjoyable, and highlighted the six worlds, collectibles, replayable stages, mazes and unlockable arcade game. Fernández reported two graphics options on Switch: a performance mode targeting 60 frames per second at reduced resolution, and a quality mode at 1080p and 30 frames per second. He noted occasional small hitches in performance mode. These are observations from his 2022 review, not current, controlled benchmark results. He estimated that a playthrough would take about ten hours; that is a reviewer estimate, not a guaranteed completion time.

The game launched on Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X. Choose based on the system you already own and whether portability matters to you. The Switch review documents a choice between frame rate and resolution, but the available reviews do not establish a controlled performance comparison across platforms. Current prices, retailer stock and physical or digital availability also need checking at the point of purchase.

Who should play it?
- Good fit: Players looking for an accessible, colorful platformer, especially those drawn to the original game or the era of straightforward 3D platforming.
- Less suitable: Players who expect a deep redesign, consistently fresh stages or a long campaign.
- On Switch: The 2022 review indicates a choice between a higher frame-rate target at reduced resolution and a 1080p, 30-fps quality mode; weigh that trade-off against portability.
