To use a regular Crude Oil Extractor in Palworld, unlock and build it, place it directly on an oil field, and supply it with electricity. Start with one extractor, confirm that it is powered and producing oil, then check storage and transport before expanding. Sunlit Isle is a strong option for a dedicated oil base; a High-Pressure Crude Oil Extractor is reported to work without a natural field, but demands more electricity and open ground.
How to use a Crude Oil Extractor
- Unlock the structure. Palpikt’s guide for v1.0.4 lists the regular extractor at Technology level 50 and the High-Pressure model at level 51. Exact construction materials differ between third-party listings, so check the live recipe in the Technology menu before gathering supplies. Palpikt and Palworld.tools do not list matching material quantities.
- Choose the right model and placement. The regular extractor must sit on an oil field. The High-Pressure model is described as field-independent, but it needs clear ground beneath it and more electricity. Palpikt’s v1.0.4 guide lists its draw as 3,000 internal energy units per second, compared with 2,000 for the regular model—a 50% increase.
- Provide power. Build a generator and have a Pal with the Generating Electricity work suitability operate it. Confirm the Pal is actually generating electricity; assigning one to the base alone does not confirm that the extractor is receiving power.
- Test output and delivery. Inspect the extractor itself to see whether it is producing crude oil. If it is, check that storage is available and examine the route the output takes before changing the power setup.
- Test under normal base load before adding machines. Let the base run with its usual crafting facilities active. An extractor operating while other facilities are idle does not show that the base can power additional machines under its ordinary workload.
The listed energy figures are game-data values, not a guarantee that a specific generator-and-worker setup will support a particular number of extractors. Treat them as a comparison between the models, then verify operation in your own base.
Where to build an oil base
There is no official ranked list of the best oil fields in the cited guides. Compare how many nodes fit inside your intended base footprint, usable building space, power and worker availability, defense and pathing, nearby resources, and the logistics of moving oil to crafting facilities. Map positions and counts are scouting aids: inspect the actual ground and base boundary in your world before committing.
| Location or option | Why consider it | Trade-offs and checks |
|---|---|---|
| Sunlit Isle (405, -483) | PC Gamer reports six oil nodes scattered across the island and describes it as relatively easy to defend, with low-level Pals. PalworldCalc identifies a cluster of three wells within one base radius. | Nearby ore is limited, so it may be less suitable for a mixed-resource base. Node counts are guide and map claims; verify the positions and footprint in your world. PC Gamer; PalworldCalc |
| Land of Absolute Zero peninsula (141, 416) | Palpikt reports oil alongside Pure Quartz, Ore, Coal, and Stone, making it a candidate for mixed production. | Confirm that the oil and other deposits you want fall within the planned base boundary, and check that there is workable placement space. Palpikt |
| High-Pressure extractor at an existing base | Palpikt describes this model as usable without a natural oil field, so it can avoid establishing a dedicated field base. | It needs open ground and a larger electricity budget. Compare that ongoing demand with the travel and setup costs of a field base. Palpikt |
What crude oil is used for
Crude oil matters because it feeds late-game crafting. PalworldCalc lists Plasteel, Flamethrower Fuel, Frag Grenade Mk2, Missile Ammo, and Menasting Terra Ring among its uses. It lists Plasteel as requiring 2 Crude Oil and 5 Ore at an Electric Furnace; these are fan-database recipe figures, so check the in-game recipe if exact quantities matter. PalworldCalc’s crude oil page reproduces the in-game description: “Obtained by installing a Crude Oil Extractor in an oil field.”

What to verify in-game
Third-party maps and recipe tables are not fully consistent. PalworldCalc lists 185 mapped wells, while Palworld.tools lists 184. Palpikt and Palworld.tools also differ on listed extractor material quantities. Those differences make field maps useful for scouting, not a definitive census, and make the current in-game Technology recipe the safer guide for construction costs. Patch-sensitive requirements and production rates may change, so use the values above as attributed listings rather than guaranteed current values.
