Why can’t you throw a Pal Sphere to summon a Pal anymore?
In Patch v0.3.11, released November 30, 2024, Pocketpair removed the ability to summon a Pal from your party by throwing its Sphere. Summoning became a static action: the Pal appears next to the player instead. Pocketpair said the adjustment was made because of ongoing litigation. Pocketpair’s May 8, 2025 explanation describes the change.
This was a change to summoning your own Pal, not a removal of Pal Spheres as capture items. Pocketpair also discussed a separate glider change in that statement; it is unrelated to how Spheres work.
Do Pal Spheres still catch wild Pals?
Yes. The v1.0 changelog continues to describe using Spheres to capture wild Pals, and records adjustments to capture odds, capture bonuses and Sphere items. The distinction is simple: throwing a Sphere to summon a party Pal was removed in v0.3.11, while using Spheres to catch wild Pals remains part of the game. Pocketpair’s v1.0 changelog, reproduced by SteamDB, is dated July 10, 2026.

What changed about capture and Sphere crafting in v1.0?
Capture rates and bonuses
- Pocketpair adjusted the capture-probability formula to make Pals easier to catch overall. The changelog gives no exact percentages or full formula, so a precise capture chance cannot be stated from it.
- The number of captures needed to complete a Capture Bonus fell from 12 to 5.
- You can check a Pal’s Capture Bonus status on its HP gauge without readying a Sphere.
Sphere tiers and recipes
- Two higher-tier Pal Spheres were added.
- The listed Pal Sphere recipe change removes Stone and Wood and uses one Paldium Fragment.
- The Pal Metal Ingots required to craft an Ultimate Sphere fell from 10 to 5.
The v1.0 notes also record a fix for a Heavy Weight Module bug that affected Pal Sphere throwing distance. These capture, crafting and throwing-distance adjustments do not restore throwing a Sphere to summon a party Pal.
