Pal Pods are late-game beds for Pals assigned to a base. They provide an automatic place to sleep, restore Sanity (SAN), and support faster HP recovery. You unlock the structure at technology tier 56, spend 5 technology points, and craft it with 10 Pal Metal Ingots, 6 Cryogenic Coolant, and 3 Computers. Once placed inside an accessible base area, Pals choose it themselves at night or when their SAN is low; you do not manually assign each sleep session.

What a Pal Pod is
A Pal Pod is a bedding structure designed for worker Pals at your base. It is not a Pal-catching device, a consumable medicine, or a player sleeping item. Its purpose is to give base Pals a dependable recovery point when they need sleep or their SAN has fallen.

The Palworld Wiki describes the pod as a healing bed that Pals use for nighttime rest and injury recovery. Resting restores SAN, while the bed’s healing attributes add support for HP recovery. Pocketpair’s official technology-ID documentation identifies the structure as MedicalPalBed_05, which corresponds to the in-game Pal Pod name.
Because the pod is tied to base AI behavior, its usefulness depends on more than the recipe. A pod hidden behind walls, outside the base boundary, or reachable only through a broken route may provide no practical benefit. Treat it as infrastructure for your workforce rather than as a button you activate on demand.

When you unlock the Pal Pod
The Pal Pod becomes available at technology tier 56. Unlocking it costs 5 technology points. This is a late-game requirement, so an early or mid-game base must continue using whichever earlier bed structures are already available until the tier-56 technology node is reached.
The tier requirement is separate from the materials needed to build the structure. You must first spend the technology points, then gather the ingredients and place the pod. Unlocking the recipe does not automatically create a bed or reserve one for a Pal.

How to use a Pal Pod
1. Reach technology tier 56
Open the technology menu, reach tier 56, and spend the required 5 technology points on the Pal Pod. You cannot craft the structure before the node is unlocked.
2. Gather the recipe materials
Prepare 10 Pal Metal Ingots, 6 Cryogenic Coolant, and 3 Computers. The game will not let you start construction without the complete material set.
3. Place the pod inside the base
Build it in the base’s living or resting area, preferably where a Pal can approach it directly from the main work area. Keep the pod within the active base area rather than placing it just outside the boundary. Leave enough surrounding space for a Pal to route to the bed and leave it again.
4. Match the number of beds to the workforce
Provide enough usable beds for the Pals currently assigned to that base. A single pod does not solve a bed shortage when the base has more active workers than available sleeping places. Count every bed that is genuinely reachable, not merely every bed visible in the construction area.

5. Let the base AI select it
You do not assign each sleep session manually. Pals use an accessible pod automatically at night and can choose it when their SAN is low. The normal sequence is movement to the bed, rest or sleep, SAN recovery, and a return to work when the Pal is ready. If no Pal uses it, investigate access and capacity rather than repeatedly issuing a sleep command.
What benefits the Pal Pod provides
SAN recovery during rest
SAN is the main reason to add a Pal Pod to a developed base. Sleeping in the pod restores SAN, helping Pals avoid the negative status effects associated with prolonged mental strain. Keeping SAN from collapsing also supports steadier work output, because a Pal that is repeatedly forced into poor conditions is less reliable than one that can rest normally.
The bed-details page lists a Pals Sanity Gain impact of 0.20. That is a current page value rather than a permanent guarantee: the source’s publication year is not stated, and a later balance patch could alter it. Read it as the listed SAN-related attribute for the pod, not as a promise that every Pal will recover the same visible amount in every situation.
HP recovery support
The Pal Pod also carries a Heal Rate Bonus of 10.00. This supports HP recovery while the Pal is resting or recovering. It does not turn the pod into a combat-healing consumable and does not replace the need to manage a Pal that is seriously injured during an expedition. The value is the bed’s listed bonus and may be revised by future updates.
Automatic behavior
Automatic selection removes routine micromanagement. Once the pod is reachable and the base has enough beds, the assigned Pals decide when to use it based on nighttime rest and low SAN. You do not have to pause production and select a bed for every worker.
More predictable late-game operations
Late-game bases commonly have many workers, longer production chains, and less tolerance for downtime. Building enough pods gives those workers a dedicated recovery option and reduces the chance that a bed shortage will interrupt the whole roster. The benefit is operational stability: workers can rest, recover SAN, and return to their assigned tasks without the player treating every sleep cycle as a separate chore.
Pal Pod bed details
The available bed details are useful for understanding what the structure is intended to do, but they are not a complete performance guarantee for every base layout or Pal. The following values are listed on the Palworld Wiki page and should be treated as patch-sensitive:

|---|---|---|
| Heal Rate Bonus | 10.00 | Additional HP-recovery support associated with the bed |
| Pals Sanity Gain impact | 0.20 | SAN-related bed attribute shown on the item page |
| Assigned-bed revive time | 05:33 | Revive-time value displayed for an assigned bed; the page does not establish a universal result for every circumstance |
These figures are current page values, not a dated balance guarantee. The source does not state a publication year, and Palworld updates can change item attributes. If the values in your game differ, use the live in-game tooltip for your version.
Where to place a Pal Pod
Choose a normal base living area
Place the pod with the other beds or in a clearly defined resting zone inside the base. A central location usually gives more workers a short route than a remote corner, but the deciding test is whether the Pals assigned to that base can reach it with the current walls, doors, platforms, and objects.
Protect the route, not just the bed
Pathing can fail even when the pod itself appears unobstructed. Check the complete route from a worker’s usual position to the pod. Tight gaps, stacked building pieces, decorative objects, elevation changes, and doors that the Pal cannot navigate can all make a theoretically nearby bed unusable.
Keep it inside the base area
The Pal Pod must be placed within the base’s usable area. A structure positioned beyond the boundary is not a valid solution for that base’s workers, even if it is visually close to the other beds.

Respect the Raid Boss Area restriction
The Pal Pod cannot be built in a Raid Boss Area. If the construction preview refuses placement in that location, moving the pod elsewhere will not fix the restriction; the area itself is ineligible. Use a permitted base location instead.
Why Pals may ignore your Pal Pod
The route is blocked
The most direct cause is pathing. Remove or reposition objects around the pod, open a wider approach, and verify that the Pal can travel from its work area to the bed without getting stuck. If you recently rebuilt walls, floors, stairs, or doors, test the route again because a small construction change can invalidate an old path.
The pod is outside the active base
Confirm that the structure is inside the base area and belongs to the base where the worker is assigned. A pod at another base, or one placed just beyond the boundary, will not serve the current roster.

There are not enough usable beds
Check the number of active Pals against the number of reachable beds. When the roster exceeds bed capacity, some Pals can remain without a valid sleeping place even though one pod is working correctly. Add beds or reduce the active assignment until every worker has access to an appropriate bed.
The Pal is not currently seeking rest
Automatic use is conditional. A Pal may continue working when it does not need nighttime rest or SAN recovery. The pod is not supposed to attract every worker continuously; it is selected when the Pal’s behavior indicates that rest is needed.
The bed or base state has changed
After moving a pod, changing base assignments, or rebuilding nearby structures, allow the base AI to recalculate routes. If a worker remains stuck, briefly remove the obstruction, relocate the pod to an open area, or reassign the Pal and observe whether it can reach the new position. These checks distinguish a placement problem from normal behavior.

Count active workers first
Start with the number of Pals actually assigned to the base, not the number stored in your Pal Box. A production base with a large active roster needs enough beds for that roster, while a smaller outpost may need fewer. Recount after changing assignments or expanding production.

Several reachable pods are more useful than a larger number packed into an inaccessible room. Leave clear approaches, avoid placing them behind machinery, and check that the floor plan still works after adding storage, production stations, and defensive structures.
Separate recovery from traffic bottlenecks
A pod placed in a narrow corridor can become a pathing obstacle for workers traveling elsewhere. Put the resting area where Pals can enter and leave without crossing a high-traffic production choke point. This is a layout decision rather than a hidden pod statistic, but it determines whether the listed SAN and HP benefits can be used in practice.
Use the pod as a late-game upgrade, not an early shortcut
The tier-56 unlock and expensive materials make the Pal Pod a late-game improvement. Earlier bases should use their available bed options and focus on keeping those beds accessible. Saving resources for the pod only makes sense once the technology requirement is close and the base can supply the required materials.

Is a Pal Pod better for SAN and healing?
For the functions documented for this structure, the answer is yes: the Pal Pod is specifically intended to restore SAN during sleep and to provide a listed HP Heal Rate Bonus of 10.00. It also shows a Pals Sanity Gain impact of 0.20. Those attributes make it a strong late-game recovery bed when compared with the basic need for any reachable sleeping place.
Recommended Free Tools
That does not establish that it is universally superior to every other bed in every category. The available material does not provide a complete side-by-side dataset for all alternative beds, including their unlock tiers, material costs, footprints, SAN values, healing effects, revive behavior, or placement rules. Choose the Pal Pod when you can meet its tier and material requirements and want its documented recovery attributes; do not assume an unsupported ranking for every bed in the game.
Pal Pod limits and trade-offs
- Late unlock: technology tier 56 prevents early access.
- Technology cost: the recipe requires 5 technology points before construction is possible.
- Expensive materials: 10 Pal Metal Ingots, 6 Cryogenic Coolant, and 3 Computers are required for one pod.
- Placement restriction: construction is not allowed in a Raid Boss Area.
- Pathing dependency: blocked or awkward routes can prevent automatic use.
- Capacity dependency: one pod cannot compensate for too few beds for the active workforce.
- Patch sensitivity: the listed 10.00 Heal Rate Bonus, 0.20 SAN impact, and 05:33 assigned-bed revive time may change in a later update.
A practical setup checklist
- Confirm that the technology menu shows tier 56 and that you have 5 technology points available.
- Gather 10 Pal Metal Ingots, 6 Cryogenic Coolant, and 3 Computers.
- Choose a location inside the correct base and outside any Raid Boss Area.
- Place the pod in an open resting zone with a clear approach and exit route.
- Count the active base Pals and provide enough reachable beds for them.
- Observe the base at night or when a worker’s SAN is low.
- If the pod is ignored, inspect the route, boundary, bed capacity, and recent construction changes in that order.
Pal Pod questions answered
Is the Pal Pod a healing item?
No. It is a bed structure. Pals use it automatically for rest and recovery; it is not consumed and is not a hand-held treatment item.
Do I have to assign a Pal to each pod?
No manual sleep assignment is required. Pals assigned to the base select an accessible pod when their behavior calls for nighttime rest or SAN recovery.
Can I build one in a Raid Boss Area?
No. The Pal Pod has a placement restriction that prohibits construction in a Raid Boss Area.
Quick wins for a faster PC:

Check reachability and the base boundary before spending more materials. A clear route and enough beds are prerequisites for the pod’s automatic behavior; adding another pod will not repair a blocked path.
Bottom line
The Pal Pod is a tier-56, late-game recovery bed for base Pals. Unlock it with 5 technology points, craft it from 10 Pal Metal Ingots, 6 Cryogenic Coolant, and 3 Computers, then place enough reachable pods inside the base for the active workforce. Its documented strengths are automatic use, SAN restoration during rest, a 10.00 Heal Rate Bonus, and a listed 0.20 SAN impact. Keep the route open, stay inside the base boundary, and remember that Raid Boss Areas do not permit placement.
