The best base Pal in Palworld is the one that matches your current bottleneck, not always the creature with the highest single suitability number. For the current 1.0 roster, endgame leaders such as Bastigor, Oserk, Solenne and Silvance are mostly World Tree or boss encounters, while practical island-wide or mid-game options keep an earlier base running. Use the recommendations below as starting points, then account for secondary jobs, partner skills, travel time, body size and your investment in Condensing or Handbooks.

How work suitability works in Palworld
Palworld bases recognize 12 work suitability types: Kindling, Watering, Planting, Generating Electricity, Handiwork, Gathering, Lumbering, Mining, Medicine Production, Cooling, Transporting and Farming. When you assign a Pal to a base, it automatically seeks facilities that match its suitability tags. A higher suitability level completes that facility’s task faster, so a level-8 specialist generally outpaces a level-3 worker on the same station.

- Watering: tends crops and operates water-powered structures.
- Planting: sows farm plots.
- Generating Electricity: powers generators.
- Handiwork: crafts items and builds structures.
- Gathering: harvests completed crops and other gatherable output.
- Lumbering: cuts trees and operates logging sites.
- Mining: extracts stone, ore and similar deposits.
- Medicine Production: crafts medicines.
- Cooling: runs refrigerators and other cold-storage facilities.
- Transporting: carries dropped materials to storage containers.
- Farming: produces ranch items when assigned to a ranch.
Suitability is only one part of output. A Pal that can switch to Transporting, Handiwork or Kindling during downtime may keep a compact base productive more consistently than a single-purpose specialist. Partner skills can also add a base-wide bonus or improve another Pal, and very large bodies can get stuck against furniture or block the route between a workstation and storage.
Quick reference: current 1.0 recommendations
The table uses the current 1.0 recommendations published by Andrea Shearon in a PC Gamer guide updated 14 August 2026. Levels are the Pal’s starting suitability, before Condenser ranks or Handbooks change the result.

Best Pal for each job
Cooling: Bastigor
Bastigor is the guide’s top starting Cooling worker and is a World Tree Ice Pal. Its other tags, Lumbering and Mining, give it productive work when refrigerators are full or cold storage is not the current priority. That combination is especially useful in an ore-focused base where one assignment can maintain cooling while helping with resource extraction.
Wumpo is the practical alternative when you want a broader logistics setup. Its partner passive raises base Transporting suitability by one, so it can improve the flow of materials even when its raw Cooling level is lower than Bastigor’s. Use Bastigor for maximum cold-facility speed; use Wumpo when hauling is the bottleneck.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Gathering: Venusa
Venusa is a World Tree Dark Pal selected for versatility rather than a single extreme number. It can harvest, craft, make medicines and perform limited Transporting, allowing a production base to keep working between crop cycles. That spread reduces idle time when you do not have enough separate slots for dedicated workers.
Verdash is the flexible alternative for players who need a generalist earlier in progression. Compare the actual tags on the individual Pal you capture, because Condenser rank and passive traits can make two specimens of the same species perform differently.
Generating Electricity: Oserk
Oserk is the current 1.0 leader for generator duty and is encountered at the World Tree as a Dragon/Electric Pal. Its Handiwork and Transporting tags are useful backup assignments, so it does not become completely idle when the generator’s demand is low.
Grizzbolt is the practical substitute when you cannot yet use Handbooks to improve a preferred worker. It is easier to field for many players and can keep a power-dependent base operating until an endgame Oserk is available.
Handiwork: Solenne
Solenne is a World Tree Dark/Neutral Pal chosen for crafting and construction. Mining and Transporting let it contribute to a workshop base after a queue finishes, although those secondary levels are not a replacement for a dedicated miner or hauler in a large operation.
Sekhmet becomes more attractive when your lineup already includes Anubis: its passive increases Anubis’s work speed. In that pairing, the combined partner effect can outweigh a small difference between two raw Handiwork levels. If you do not use Anubis, Solenne’s direct suitability is the simpler choice.
Kindling: Dupin
Dupin is a Fire Pal with strong Kindling plus Handiwork, Medicine Production and Transporting. The guide notes one spawn point on every Palpagos island, making it the most accessible recommendation in this list and a realistic replacement for a late-game World Tree worker during the middle of a playthrough.
Renjishi is the higher-Kindling alternative when furnace or cooking throughput is your only concern. Dupin is better when one base slot must cover several jobs; Renjishi is better when you can dedicate a slot to heat facilities.

Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallLumbering: Celesdir Noct
Celesdir Noct is a World Tree Dark Pal with the guide’s highest starting Lumbering suitability and useful Gathering. It fits a dedicated logging base that still needs someone to collect finished output.
Knocklem Ignis is the dual-role option: its Lumbering and Mining coverage allows one worker to feed both timber and ore operations. Cryolinx Terra is another alternative when its other tags fit your base layout or available capture routes better. Pick a multi-role worker when you have limited assignment slots; pick Celesdir Noct when uninterrupted logging speed matters most.
Mining: Knocklem Ignis
Knocklem Ignis is a Fire Pal found at Bicornis Islet and the World Tree. The guide prefers it over a pure level-8 miner because it combines Mining with Transporting and Kindling. It can extract ore, carry the drops to storage and help run a furnace without requiring three separate workers.
Anubis remains a strong alternative for a mining-and-crafting base, particularly when you already use the Sekhmet partner synergy. A single-specialty level-8 miner can still win in a mine-only base with short paths and enough dedicated haulers, but Knocklem Ignis usually gives better coverage in a mixed facility.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesMedicine Production: Silvance
Silvance is a World Tree boss encounter and the recommended Medicine Production specialist. Its Handiwork, Planting, Gathering and Transporting tags let it switch from medicine queues to farm or logistics work, which is valuable because medicine stations often run in bursts rather than continuously.
Lyleen Noct is the runner-up. Normal Lyleen can remain viable when you have Handbooks to raise the selected suitability, so do not discard a well-bred or highly condensed specimen solely because it starts below Silvance.
Planting: Dandilord
Dandilord is a World Tree Grass/Dark boss with Planting supported by Handiwork, Medicine Production, Gathering and Transporting. Its poison-immunity passive is useful while exploring the World Tree, giving it value outside the farm assignment that justified capturing it.
Rank #2
Ophydia is the practical alternative when your farm also needs Watering coverage. A dual Planting/Watering worker can simplify a small agricultural base, while Dandilord’s broader secondary tags suit a larger production compound with separate watering capacity.
Recommended Free Tools
Transporting: Mimog
Mimog is a Neutral Pal found throughout Palpagos. Its raw Transporting level is modest, but its movement speed lets it shuttle dropped items quickly between work sites and storage. That makes it useful in compact bases where path length, rather than carrying capacity, is the main delay.
Wumpo’s partner passive can raise base Transporting suitability by one and is worth considering when several workers generate piles of output. Eidrolon is the alternative when you value high carrying capacity over Mimog’s speed. Test both against your storage layout: a slower worker with fewer trips can outperform a fast worker that must return repeatedly.
Watering: choose for your actual farm layout
The cited 1.0 recommendation guide does not establish a named Watering winner. Treat that as an evidence limit, not proof that one species cannot be optimal. Inspect the Watering level, body size and secondary tags of the Pals available to you, then assign the one that matches your crop cycle. A worker that can also Transport or Plant during downtime is often more useful in a small base than a Watering-only specialist.

Farming: choose the ranch specialist you can sustain
Farming produces ranch items, but the cited guide does not name a current 1.0 best Pal or provide a ranked comparison. Use the Farming tag shown on each Pal’s details, keep the ranch close to storage and prefer a compact body that reaches the ranch entrance reliably. Because the database lists only 29 Farming-capable Pals and a maximum suitability of 4, individual partner skills and availability may matter more than chasing an unverified tier list.
Early-game replacements for World Tree picks
Many top recommendations are intentionally endgame: Bastigor, Venusa, Oserk, Solenne, Celesdir Noct, Silvance and Dandilord are World Tree or boss encounters. You do not need to wait for them to build an efficient base.
| If your goal is… | Use this progression approach | Why it works |
|---|---|---|
| Reliable Kindling before endgame | Capture Dupin | Its spawn availability on every Palpagos island makes replacement and breeding practical. |
| Mixed mining and furnace work | Use Knocklem Ignis when reachable; otherwise combine the best miner and Kindler you already own | Separating jobs avoids waiting for one Pal to finish before the other starts. |
| Crafting before Solenne | Build around Anubis or another Handiwork Pal, then consider the Sekhmet synergy later | Handiwork queues are bursty, so a worker with a second assignment can stay useful. |
| Electricity before Oserk | Use Grizzbolt | It is the guide’s practical substitute when late-game investment is unavailable. |
| General harvesting and logistics | Use a flexible Gathering Pal and a fast Transporter such as Mimog | Separating harvesting from hauling prevents one task from blocking the other. |
How to assign a base team
- Identify the stalled facility. Look at the furnace, generator, farm, refrigerator, ranch or production bench that is waiting longest.
- Match the suitability first. Assign a Pal with the relevant tag; the level determines its task speed.
- Fill the downtime job. Add Transporting, Handiwork, Kindling or Gathering coverage so workers do not stand idle between cycles.
- Check the route. Put storage near mines, plantations and production stations. Shorter paths reduce wasted travel regardless of species.
- Read partner skills. Apply base-wide bonuses such as Wumpo’s Transporting increase, or build around a specific synergy such as Sekhmet improving Anubis’s work speed.
- Watch for congestion. If a large Pal clips furniture, doors or storage, replace it with a smaller or medium-bodied worker with similar suitability.
- Reassess after each upgrade. New facilities can change which job is limiting output, so a previously ideal specialist may need to move to another base.
When a lower level or multi-job Pal is better
A level-8 specialist wins on its assigned facility’s raw cycle speed, but a base rarely performs one task continuously. Consider a multi-role Pal when a furnace runs only during ore deliveries, a medicine station is used in batches, or a farm spends time waiting for crops to mature. During those gaps, secondary Handiwork, Transporting or Gathering prevents the worker slot from becoming dead weight.
Base size changes the answer. In a compact outpost, a single dual-role Pal can replace two specialists and leave room for a ranch or storage worker. In a high-throughput industrial base, dedicated specialists plus dedicated haulers usually avoid task switching and path conflicts. The right comparison is completed output over your entire work cycle, not the largest number on the status screen.
Condenser ranks and Handbooks change the ranking
The Pal Condenser can improve a Pal’s rank, while Handbooks can raise a selected work suitability as high as level 10. Those systems make “best” a progression decision rather than a permanent species ranking. A favorite Pal with strong passives, a high Condenser rank and a Handbook investment can overtake an uninvested endgame capture.
“Handbooks make ‘best pal’ lists far more subjective, so don’t sweat it if you don’t see your favorite companions here.” — Andrea Shearon, PC Gamer guide, updated 14 August 2026.
Invest in a worker when you use it every day and its secondary tags fit your base. Do not spend rare Handbooks merely to chase a one-level advantage if the Pal is constantly stuck behind a refrigerator, walking around a wall or waiting for storage access.
Body size, pathing and troubleshooting
A worker reaches a station but does not work
- Remove decorative objects or narrow furniture blocking the interaction point.
- Move storage closer to the production facility so Transporting does not create a long loop.
- Reassign the Pal by lifting and throwing it at the desired facility, then confirm the correct suitability tag appears.
- Replace an oversized Pal with a smaller worker if it repeatedly clips doorways or corners.
The base has the right suitability but output is slow
- Compare the worker’s level with the recommendation table rather than looking only at its species name.
- Check whether the Pal is spending time on a secondary task that has become the real bottleneck.
- Shorten paths and add a separate Transporter when dropped materials accumulate far from storage.
- Use Condenser ranks or Handbooks on workers that remain in the base for long sessions.
Food, sanity or rest interrupts production
Suitability numbers do not remove the need for beds, food and a navigable base. A theoretically faster Pal loses its advantage if it spends long periods recovering or cannot reach those facilities. Keep rest and storage routes clear before replacing a worker solely because a spreadsheet lists a higher level.

Flying mounts and travel speed
Mount selection is separate from work suitability. Jetragon remains the guide’s fast, accessible flying recommendation. Eidrolon and Eidrolon Ignis can exceed it with investment, especially when the Liberated Pterosaur provides its 6% speed buff while other Dragon or Dark Pals are in the party.
Use the faster mount for long-distance resource runs and World Tree travel, but do not sacrifice a base worker simply to obtain a mount species. Mount speed affects your travel time; suitability affects the production cycle running while you are away.
Roster scale and patch context
PAL-HUB’s unofficial database reports the following roster counts and maximum suitability values in Paldex data version v28+25247047:
| Suitability | Pals listed | Highest listed level |
|---|---|---|
| Kindling | 44 | 8 |
| Watering | 46 | 8 |
| Planting | 46 | 8 |
| Generating Electricity | 25 | 8 |
| Handiwork | 109 | 8 |
| Gathering | 111 | 8 |
| Lumbering | 64 | 8 |
| Mining | 57 | 8 |
| Medicine Production | 43 | 8 |
| Cooling | 38 | 8 |
| Transporting | 148 | 7 |
| Farming | 29 | 4 |
These figures are a snapshot, not a promise that every patch will retain the same roster, maximum or encounter location. Check the Pal’s current in-game entry before committing breeding materials, Condenser copies or rare Handbooks. A patch can also change pathing, partner effects or where a World Tree and boss encounter is available.
