Nintendo has not ignored Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door: it released a visually enhanced Switch version in 2024, twenty years after the GameCube original. Whether that amounts to respect depends on what you expect—bringing a classic back is meaningful, but it is not the same as a sustained commitment to preserving, promoting, or supporting it. Nintendo’s public record establishes the rerelease and its changes; it does not establish the company’s intent or settle the broader judgment.
The Thousand-Year Door did get a substantial rerelease
Nintendo announced the Switch edition during a Nintendo Direct on September 14, 2023, calling it “a visually enhanced version of the Nintendo GameCube game.” It arrived on May 23, 2024. Nintendo describes that edition as releasing twenty years after the original, which places the GameCube game in 2004. Nintendo’s announcement and its digital product listing establish a clear record of recognition: Nintendo brought the game back on a current platform rather than leaving the original as the only edition documented here.

That matters when assessing the claim that Nintendo does not respect the game. A remake is an act of preservation and promotion, even if it came two decades after the original. But a single rerelease cannot, by itself, prove an ongoing company commitment. The sources establish what Nintendo released and how it described the product—not how Nintendo privately values the game or whether fans’ broader expectations have been met.
What “respect” can mean—and what the record shows
“Respect” is not a measurable product specification. A useful way to judge the claim is to separate several possible standards:
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Access: Is the game available on a current Nintendo system? Nintendo lists a Switch edition in both physical and digital formats.
- Preservation through updating: Did Nintendo make changes for the new release? Its listing names revised presentation and quality-of-life features.
- Ongoing support: Is there a continuing program of updates, promotion, or preservation beyond the rerelease? The cited Nintendo pages do not establish that.
Under the first two standards, the record shows concrete recognition. Under the third, these product pages do not provide enough evidence to reach a conclusion. It is fair to argue that a delayed return is less than a broad preservation strategy; it is not supported to say that Nintendo has wholly ignored the game.
What changed in the Switch version
Nintendo’s US digital listing describes the Switch edition as having revamped graphics, an updated soundtrack, updated quick-travel pipes, and a Partner Ring for switching partner characters. Nintendo’s description says the ring lets players swap characters “in a jiffy.” These are more than a platform transfer: the official description identifies presentation updates and gameplay conveniences.

The available official descriptions do not establish exact resolution or frame-rate figures, a complete account of localization changes, or a systematic list of content differences. Those details should not be inferred from the phrase “visually enhanced.”

How to play it now
Nintendo lists a physical Nintendo Switch edition as well as the digital version. Its US physical product page lists May 23, 2024 as the release date, one-player single-system play, and TV, tabletop, and handheld modes. Nintendo also says the game is compatible with Nintendo Switch 2 and that behavior is consistent with Nintendo Switch; that is Nintendo’s product-page statement, not independent performance testing. Current stock and availability can vary.
That gives players a current official route to the game, but it does not answer every preservation question. The documented Switch release is evidence of renewed access and updated presentation. Whether Nintendo should do more—such as maintain a broader long-term preservation effort—is a separate standard of respect, and the cited material does not show what Nintendo will do next.
