Paradise Island is a resort-centered island in The Bahamas, connected by bridge to Nassau on the separate island of New Providence. Atlantis is its best-known attraction, but it is not the whole island—and access to its water park, beaches and other facilities depends on the pass or stay you book. Here’s how to understand the destination and plan a visit.
What is Paradise Island known for?
Paradise Island is known for large hotels, resorts and beaches, with Atlantis Paradise Island as a major draw. Atlantis offers accommodations, Aquaventure water park, marine habitats, restaurants and a nightclub; other hotels and resorts are also part of the destination. The Bahamas tourism site groups Nassau and Paradise Island together as a visitor destination, but they are distinct places.
Atlantis describes its Aquaventure as a 141-acre water park and promotes five miles of beaches and marine habitats containing more than 50,000 aquatic animals representing more than 250 marine species. These are figures published by the resort, with no publication year stated on its page, rather than independent measurements. See Atlantis activities for the operator’s current descriptions.
Is Paradise Island connected to Nassau?
Yes. Paradise Island is connected by bridge across Nassau Harbour to Nassau, which is on New Providence. Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS) is also on New Providence. The Bahamas tourism site identifies Cable Beach in Nassau’s resort district and Cabbage Beach on Paradise Island, so the names refer to different locations. See the official Nassau & Paradise Island destination guide and getting here information.

Can you visit Atlantis without staying there?
Atlantis promotes day passes, so an overnight stay is not the only possible way to visit. A pass does not automatically mean access to every resort facility: check what is included, the date-specific availability and current price directly with Atlantis before planning around a particular attraction. The available information does not establish whether snorkeling equipment is included or available to rent.
Choose a day visit if…
- You have limited time and can confirm a pass that covers the facilities you want to use.
- You are comfortable arranging your own transport and checking entry conditions for your visit date.
Consider an overnight stay if…
- You want more time for the resort’s attractions and activities than a day visit allows.
- You are comparing accommodations and want to confirm which facilities and beach access come with each specific booking.
Pass inclusions, lodging privileges and total trip costs vary by booking and were not established here; verify them with the relevant operator rather than assuming a resort stay or day pass covers the same things.
How do you get from Nassau airport to Paradise Island?
Atlantis identifies Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS) as the airport for reaching the resort and says it does not recommend boat travel. The airport is on New Providence, not Paradise Island; onward transport is needed to reach the island across the harbour bridge.
Atlantis says it does not offer free airport shuttles. Its FAQ lists shared and private shuttles, town cars, SUVs, limousines, luggage vans and accessible vans as transfer options that can be reserved in advance. Confirm availability, price, pickup details and accessibility arrangements with the operator when booking. Details are in the Atlantis FAQ.

Know the limits of the resort shuttle
Atlantis’s complimentary resort bus is for hotel guests and people with restaurant reservations, not a general airport transfer. The FAQ says it runs between named resort locations every 30 minutes and restricts drop-offs at The Cove and The Reef. Confirm current routes and eligibility with Atlantis, since these operating arrangements can change.
What can you do on Paradise Island and nearby in Nassau?
At Atlantis, the operator lists Aquaventure rides, pools, beaches, marine habitats and snorkeling at South Paradise Lagoon. If snorkeling is part of your plan, a mask and snorkel set may be useful, but confirm whether equipment is provided or can be rented; the activities page does not establish that. The resort’s activity list is at Atlantis activities.

For a change of scene, Nassau’s historic sights are nearby but are not on Paradise Island. The Bahamas tourism site says the Queen’s Staircase was carved from solid limestone in 1794, and Christ Church Cathedral was constructed in 1841 on the site of the first church built in The Bahamas in 1670. These are Nassau-area context, not Atlantis or Paradise Island attractions; see the official destination guide.

According to Atlantis’s own history, Sol Kerzner purchased Resorts International in May 1994, and the transformed Atlantis opened in December of that year with 1,147 rooms. This is the resort’s account of its history; read more on its history page.
