The round was reported by GamesBeat; Animoca Brands had separately announced a strategic investment in the company two months earlier without disclosing an amount.
What the $7 million round was for
GamesBeat reported that the May 2024 round would support development of Param Labs’ modular gaming ecosystem. Animoca Brands led the round. Other named participants included Delphi Ventures, Cypher Capital, P2 Ventures, Mechanism Capital, Merit Circle, TRGC Capital, Double Peak Group, MH Ventures, and others. GamesBeat’s May 16, 2024 report said the ecosystem was intended to be governed by the Param token. That described a plan at the time, not proof of the token’s current functionality.
How Animoca Brands’ earlier investment fit in
On March 14, 2024, Animoca Brands announced a strategic investment intended to strengthen its partnership with Param Labs and support Web3 infrastructure and ecosystem expansion. That announcement preceded the $7 million funding report and did not state the round’s amount. Animoca Brands’ announcement characterized Param Labs as a UAE-based gaming infrastructure startup.
Animoca Brands’ co-founder and executive chairman Yat Siu said: “We’re excited to invest in and partner with Param Labs to drive Web3 development in MENA and advance the cause of digital property rights in the open metaverse.” Param Labs and Kiraverse founder and CEO Anthony Anderson said: “This investment marks a significant milestone for Param Labs’ ecosystem development and the broader Web3 gaming landscape.” Both statements appeared in Animoca Brands’ March 2024 announcement.
