“The program can’t start because parseauto.dll is missing from your computer.” If parseauto.dll cannot be loaded, the most likely cause is a damaged or incomplete IObit Start Menu 8 installation.

Which fix applies to you

Use this short decision list before changing anything:

  • Start Menu 8 is still installed: repair it from Windows Apps settings, then restart Windows.
  • Start Menu 8 was recently updated, removed, or partially uninstalled: uninstall the remaining installation, restart, and install a clean copy from IObit’s official product page.
  • The error appeared after an antivirus alert: inspect Windows Security Protection history before restoring anything.
  • The file exists but Windows says “specified module could not be found”: a dependency may be missing. Reinstall the complete application rather than copying another DLL.
  • The message appears after Start Menu 8 was removed: look for an orphaned startup entry or service and remove the application cleanly.
  • Several unrelated Windows programs also fail: check Windows component health with DISM and SFC.
  • You downloaded parseauto.dll separately: remove that copy and rebuild the application from its installer.

What parseauto.dll belongs to

parseauto.dll is an application DLL associated with IObit Start Menu 8, also seen in older installations identified as IObit Classic Start. It is not a Windows component, Microsoft runtime, DirectX file, or Visual C++ Redistributable file.

Historical installation inventories place the file in an IObit application directory, including locations similar to:

C:Program Files (x86)IObitStart Menu 8parseAuto.dll
C:Program FilesIObitClassic StartparseAuto.dll

The capitalization may appear as parseAuto.dll in the folder even when the error uses parseauto.dll. Windows normally treats those names as equivalent.

Do not expect to find this file in C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64. Historical records point to an application-local file, often alongside a 32-bit Start Menu 8 installation. That does not prove the architecture or contents of every release, so do not use old file-size, version, or architecture records to replace a current installation manually.

Fix 1: Repair or reinstall Start Menu 8

This is the primary fix because the DLL belongs to Start Menu 8. Reinstalling the owning application restores the matching executable, DLLs, configuration files, and dependencies together.

Try Windows repair first

  1. Close the error dialog.
  2. Press Windows + I to open Settings.
  3. Select Apps.
  4. Select Installed apps in Windows 11, or Apps & features in Windows 10.
  5. Search for Start Menu 8, IObit Start Menu 8, or a related IObit Classic Start entry.
  6. Select the three-dot menu beside the program.
  7. Choose Advanced options, if available.
  8. Select Repair.
  9. Restart Windows and launch Start Menu 8 again.

If the error disappears, the application was repaired successfully. If there is no Repair button, or the same error returns, use a clean reinstall.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Perform a clean reinstall

  1. Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps or Apps & features.
  2. Find the Start Menu 8 entry.
  3. Select Uninstall and complete the wizard.
  4. Restart Windows even if the uninstaller does not request it.
  5. Check that the old IObit Start Menu 8 directory is no longer being used. Do not delete unrelated IObit folders.
  6. Download Start Menu 8 only from IObit’s official product page.
  7. Right-click the installer and select Run as administrator.
  8. Complete the installation without mixing files from an older release.
  9. Restart Windows again.
  10. Test the Start Menu 8 shortcut.

A successful repair normally means the error no longer appears and the program starts normally. If the installer refuses to run, check Windows Security history, available disk space, permissions on the IObit directory, and the installer’s digital signature.

Do not install an old DLL into a newer program directory. A file can have the right name but still be incompatible with the executable that loads it.

Fix 2: Check whether Windows Security quarantined the file

Antivirus software can remove or quarantine an application DLL. This is especially relevant when the error begins immediately after a scan, update, cleanup operation, or security notification.

  1. Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
  2. Select Virus & threat protection.
  3. Select Protection history.
  4. Review recent detections for an item connected with Start Menu 8 or its installation directory.
  5. Open the detection and inspect its path and action.
  6. If the item is clearly from a trusted, official IObit installation, follow Windows Security’s option to restore or allow it only after confirming the detection is false.
  7. Restart Windows and test the application.

Microsoft warns that restoring a detected item can expose the device. If the detection is uncertain, leave the file quarantined and reinstall Start Menu 8 from the official installer instead. Do not disable antivirus protection merely to install a separately downloaded DLL.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If the restored file is immediately quarantined again, stop using that copy. Scan the installer and system, then contact the software vendor or use a clean official installer.

Fix 3: Rebuild a mismatched or partially removed installation

An old Start Menu 8 directory can remain after an upgrade, downgrade, failed uninstall, or interrupted update. In that situation, the executable may load a DLL from the wrong release or continue trying to start from a path that no longer exists.

Use this sequence:

  1. Uninstall every visible Start Menu 8 or IObit Classic Start entry from Settings → Apps.
  2. Restart Windows.
  3. Check Task Manager → Startup apps for a Start Menu 8 or IObit startup item.
  4. Disable the item only if it clearly belongs to the removed program.
  5. Check Services by pressing Windows + R, entering services.msc, and selecting OK.
  6. Do not remove a service unless its name and executable path clearly identify the old IObit component.
  7. Install one current, coherent Start Menu 8 release from IObit.
  8. Restart and test the program.

If the error appears on every boot even though Start Menu 8 has been removed, an orphaned startup entry or service may remain. Avoid deleting random registry keys. Identify the exact IObit path first, or use the application’s uninstaller and vendor support.

Fix 4: Treat “specified module could not be found” differently

This message can appear even when parseauto.dll is visible in the Start Menu 8 directory. The missing item may be a dependency required by that DLL rather than the DLL itself.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not respond by copying files from another computer or by installing Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET at random. Instead:

  1. Uninstall Start Menu 8.
  2. Restart Windows.
  3. Install it again from the official IObit package.
  4. Run the application as administrator once for testing by right-clicking its shortcut and selecting Run as administrator.
  5. If it still fails, record the complete error text and the application path.
  6. Check Windows Event Viewer under Windows Logs → Application for a matching error.
  7. Contact IObit support with the exact message and installation details.

A 32-bit application can require a 32-bit library even on 64-bit Windows. Historical Start Menu 8 records point toward a 32-bit application directory, but the installed release should determine the correct architecture. Reinstalling the complete application is safer than trying to identify and download individual dependencies.

Fix 5: Repair wider Windows component corruption

DISM and SFC repair protected Windows components. They normally do not recreate an application-owned IObit DLL, so use them when other Windows features are also malfunctioning or when the Start Menu 8 reinstall exposes broader system corruption.

  1. Right-click Start.
  2. Select Terminal (Admin), Windows PowerShell (Admin), or Command Prompt (Admin).
  3. Approve the User Account Control prompt.
  4. Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
  1. Wait for it to finish.
  2. Then run:
sfc /scannow
  1. Restart Windows.
  2. Test Start Menu 8 again.

Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. If SFC reports that it found and repaired corrupt files, restart and test. If it reports that some files could not be repaired, run DISM again, restart, and repeat SFC once. If only Start Menu 8 is affected, return to the application reinstall rather than repeatedly running system repair.

If manually hunting through Windows component repairs and trying to determine what changed is taking longer than the repair itself, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for issues and show what it identifies; repairs are performed by the full version. It is optional, and reinstalling Start Menu 8 remains the definitive fix for this application-owned DLL.

Fix 6: Do not use regsvr32 for this file

regsvr32 is not a general DLL installation or repair command. It is intended for DLLs that provide a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer.

Running commands such as these is therefore not an appropriate first fix:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
regsvr32 parseauto.dll
regsvr32 C:WindowsSystem32parseauto.dll

They may produce another error, register the wrong file, or encourage you to place an application DLL in a Windows system directory. Use the vendor installer instead. Only use regsvr32 when the application’s official documentation specifically instructs you to register that exact DLL.

Fix 7: Update drivers only when the evidence points there

A display, input, or shell integration problem can sometimes appear alongside an application startup failure, but there is no verified evidence that parseauto.dll is a Windows driver component. Do not begin by replacing every driver.

If Device Manager shows an actual device error:

  1. Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand the affected device category.
  3. Right-click the device with the warning icon.
  4. Select Update driver.
  5. Choose Search automatically for drivers.
  6. Restart Windows if prompted.
  7. Test Start Menu 8.

If Windows cannot find a driver, obtain it from the hardware manufacturer rather than a driver-download site. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and identify outdated drivers, while driver installation is performed by the full version; it is optional, and a Start Menu 8 reinstall remains the definitive fix for parseauto.dll.

Fix 8: Use System Restore when the installer is unavailable

If Start Menu 8 has been discontinued on the system or its installer is no longer available, use a restore point created before the failure.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Press Windows + R.
  2. Enter rstrui.exe.
  3. Select OK.
  4. Choose Next.
  5. Select a restore point from before the DLL error began.
  6. Select Scan for affected programs if available.
  7. Confirm the restore point and select Finish.
  8. Allow Windows to restart.

System Restore can revert system files, registry settings, and installed programs without normally changing personal files. It may remove a later application installation, so reinstall Start Menu 8 afterward if necessary.

What not to do

  • Do not download parseauto.dll from a random DLL library.
  • Do not copy it into System32, SysWOW64, or another application’s directory.
  • Do not assume a file with the same name has the correct version or architecture.
  • Do not disable antivirus protection to force a DLL into place.
  • Do not run registry cleaners or delete unidentified startup entries.
  • Do not install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET without evidence that the application requires a missing runtime.

A separately downloaded DLL can contain malware, belong to a different release, use the wrong architecture, or fail because the real problem is a missing dependency. The safe source is the official Start Menu 8 installer from IObit, or a verified backup of the exact installation.

FAQ

Is parseauto.dll part of Windows?

No verified evidence identifies it as a Windows-protected component. It is associated with IObit Start Menu 8 and should normally remain in that application’s directory.

Is parseauto.dll a Visual C++ runtime file?

There is no credible evidence supporting that claim. Do not treat it as a Visual C++ Redistributable DLL.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why does the error say the specified module could not be found when the file exists?

The loader may be missing a dependency of parseauto.dll, or the existing file may be corrupted or incompatible. Reinstall Start Menu 8 as a complete package.

Should I register parseauto.dll?

Usually not. regsvr32 does not repair arbitrary application libraries and should be used only when the vendor specifically requires registration.

Can I copy the DLL from another computer?

Only a verified backup from the exact matching Start Menu 8 release and destination is appropriate. Reinstalling the application is safer and restores the complete file set.

What if Start Menu 8 is no longer installed?

Remove leftover startup entries through the application’s uninstaller or Windows Apps settings. If the error continues and the program is unavailable, use System Restore or investigate the exact orphaned startup path instead of downloading the DLL alone.
