Act 2 runs from Rathbreaker in the Vastiri Outskirts to Jamanra, the Abomination, aboard the Dreadnought. The route includes optional fights that can grant an ascension route, passive skill points, or resistance, while several main-path bosses punish players who ignore arena hazards. This guide maps the sequence and highlights the key response to each dangerous attack.

Act 2 boss route at a glance

The campaign route begins in the Vastiri Outskirts, passes through the Ardura Caravan and the Mawdun areas, then opens into three objectives after the first Jamanra encounter. Those objectives can be completed in any order. If you want to pair route progress with the Ancient Vows quest, do Mastodon Badlands and Keth before Valley of the Titans. The walkthrough’s route and reward details are listed by PoE2DB’s Act 2 guide.

Two additional optional encounters are worth noting. L’im the Impaler is listed in the Halani Gates and grants an Uncut Skill Gem Level 6. Balbala is the first available ascension method described by the route guide. The sources differ in how they frame the Bone Pits encounter’s quest status, so check the live quest tracker if you need to know precisely what is required for campaign completion.

Before the first Jamanra encounter

Rathbreaker — Vastiri Outskirts

Rathbreaker deals physical damage while hyena demons reinforce him and Sun Clan Scavengers throw spears from the hillside. His wind slashes end in a ground-sundering slam; the boss guide marks this sequence as one to dodge. Fighting near the spot where Rathbreaker begins can reduce pressure from the hillside spear throwers. Attack descriptions and tactical notes in this section are from Poe-Vault’s Act 2 boss guide.

Rudja, the Dread Engineer — Mawdun Mine

Rudja combines physical and fire attacks. Keep moving to avoid the flamethrower, which tracks your position, and watch for gas, explosive, oil, and stun grenades. Oil can ignite when hit by her flamethrower or an explosive grenade. The route guide recommends a Ruby Charm or more Fire Resistance for this fight; during Explosive Frail, the boss guide advises dodge-rolling just as she is about to strike.

Balbala, the Traitor — Traitor’s Passage (optional)

Balbala teleports quickly and attacks with knives, alongside poison hazards. During Hide and Seek, she vanishes near the arena edge as poison spreads from the central hole. Move toward the edge, locate her, and attack to end the hazard. Her golden sigils can summon spirits if left alone. Defeating her drops a Djinn Barya, which unlocks the Trial of the Sekhemas.

Jamanra, the Risen King — Halani Gates

This is a separate encounter from the final Dreadnought fight. In the Halani Gates, Jamanra uses advancing sword swings, a storm that follows the player, a Flameblast Slam, and a charged lightning beam. At low health he becomes immune and summons a sandstorm with volatile scarabs. Defeat the scarabs to complete the encounter transition, then return to the Ardura Caravan to unlock the next objectives. The available guides summarize this encounter’s damage types differently, so focus on the visible attack patterns rather than relying on a single damage-type label.

Three flexible objectives after Halani Gates

Iktab and Ekbab — Bone Pits

Iktab fires lightning projectiles and creates sigils; Ekbab uses physical stomps, tusk swipes, and a charge. When one dies, the other becomes empowered, but does not return to full health. If you can, bring both health bars low before finishing either. If you cannot, the boss guide recommends killing Iktab first, leaving the easier empowered Ekbab for last.

Kabala, Constrictor Queen — Keth (optional)

Kabala attacks with projectiles, dagger slashes, and tail sweeps, then adds Bone Snakes and more projectile attacks. During Bone Cage she walls off all but one arena exit and charges a large explosion. Find the open gap or break through a bone wall before the blast lands. The route guide lists this encounter as optional and awards two Weapon Set Passive Skill Points for defeating her.

Azarian, the Forsaken Son — Buried Shrines

Azarian deals physical and fire damage, and arena pots can break to leave burning ground. Keep him near the middle and avoid letting attacks destroy every corner pot; if all four corners burn, the center becomes the only safe area. The route guide places an Elemental Shrine before the fight; choosing its Fire offering grants a Ruby Ring, which it recommends for additional fire resistance.

Zalmarath, the Colossus — Titan Grotto

Zalmarath can attack across or alter much of the arena. When he begins the disintegration beam, hide behind the dagger. Vril Apparitions arrive later and explode when close to the player, so take them out quickly. The route walkthrough also identifies three Ritual Altars in the area and includes cleansing their encounters as part of zone progression. Defeating Zalmarath gives the Flame Ruby; after obtaining the Horn of the Vastiri, use it to clear the sandstorm.

From the sandstorm to the Dreadnought

Tor Gul, the Defiler — Spires of Deshar

After the sandstorm clears, travel through Deshar and the Path of Mourning to reach the Spires of Deshar. Tor Gul uses physical, fire, and chaos attacks. Watch for a fire breath that sweeps across part of the arena and leaves burning ground, poison vomit that summons skeletons, fire mortars, and sigils. The boss guide says fire sigils later spawn fire tornadoes. The Sisters of Garukhan are an optional point of interest in the Spires; defeating them grants +10% Lightning Resistance.

Jamanra, the Abomination — Dreadnought

The final encounter is a two-phase fight and has different mechanics from the Halani Gates encounter. In the first phase, Jamanra uses lightning attacks and beacons. When he summons a sandstorm, stand behind Asala’s shield. Kill the zombies quickly: they explode and leave shocked ground. Watch the lightning walls and beacon patterns as the fight develops. Later, tornadoes, tracking slams, and an axe sweep add pressure. For a tracking slam, wait for the wind-up before dodge-rolling so the attack does not follow the roll.

The route walkthrough recommends gaining levels and upgrading equipment while moving through the densely populated Dreadnought; it gives no specific level threshold. After Jamanra falls, Asala appears for a final blow. Return to the Ardura Caravan and select travel to the Sandswept Marsh to continue into Act 3.

What to prioritize if a fight is going badly

  • Persistent ground hazards: Keep moving around Rudja’s oil and flames, Azarian’s burning corners, and Jamanra’s shocked ground rather than trading damage while standing in them.
  • Attacks with a clear escape response: Dodge Rathbreaker’s finishing slam, get behind Zalmarath’s dagger for the beam, and wait for Jamanra’s tracking-slam wind-up before rolling.
  • Mechanics that change the fight: Lower Iktab and Ekbab together before killing one; find the gap in Kabala’s Bone Cage; and locate Balbala at the arena edge during Hide and Seek.
  • Progression rewards: Balbala unlocks an ascension route, Kabala grants Weapon Set Passive Skill Points, and the Sisters of Garukhan add Lightning Resistance. These are optional detours rather than requirements to defeat the final boss.

Boss mechanics and balance values can change between game updates. The guide sources do not establish that every detail is unchanged in the live version on October 4, 2026, so treat specific attack timings and effects as guide descriptions rather than a guarantee of current-patch behavior. The boss index’s dated entries provide a limited freshness cross-check, not confirmation of later changes: Exile2 Guides boss index.
