There is no verified, exhaustive name-by-name list of every Path of Exile 2 skill gem in the official patch notes cited here. Grinding Gear Games’ 0.4.0 notes report additions to several gem categories, not the total roster. This reference therefore covers what those notes establish and how to check a specific support gem in-game; it does not present an incomplete list as “all” gems. The information below is anchored to Content Update 0.4.0, with support-system rules from 0.3.0 identified as versioned rules.
What counts as a skill gem?
“Skill gems” can refer to more than one category. Active skill gems grant skills you use; spirit or other persistent skills are skills that remain active rather than being used in the same way. Support gems modify compatible skills, while lineage supports are a distinct support category. These categories should not be combined into one active-skill list.
The official notes reviewed do not provide an exhaustive roster with each gem’s exact name, category, tier, requirements, or compatibility. Consequently, they cannot support a complete inventory or an overall total. The 0.4.0 figures below are additions in that update only.

The patch notes also include gem tier, availability, and balance changes. Those changes mean a list can become outdated even when it was once accurate. The notes do not name every existing or newly added gem in one consolidated catalog, so these addition counts cannot be used to reconstruct one.
Why a full list needs a version label
Gem availability and balance change between updates. The 0.3.0 notes documented revisions to the support system, and 0.4.0 brought further gem changes. Any usable roster should therefore state which game update it covers and distinguish the gem’s category and acquisition or tier context where those details are verified.

In the 0.3.0 notes, Grinding Gear Games said support copies were no longer generally limited to one of each type per character, and that many supports had multiple tiers. These are rules described for that version, not a guarantee that every support behaves identically in a later update. Check the relevant current in-game details rather than treating an older summary as timeless. The version-specific account is in the 0.3.0 patch notes.
How to check whether a support works with your skill
- Open the gemcutting interface.
- Hover over the support gem you are considering. The 0.4.0 notes say the interface displays compatibility with your equipped skills.
- Use that compatibility display for the specific skill and support combination you are planning, rather than assuming a support works because its description sounds relevant.
- Check attribute requirements as well. Under the 0.3.0 rules, an unmet attribute requirement disables the affected support rather than disabling the whole skill.
The 0.3.0 notes also say supports designed for skills “you use yourself” cannot support persistent skills. Treat that as a versioned compatibility rule and confirm the current interface for your setup. The compatibility-display change is documented in the 0.4.0 patch notes.

What a reliable all-gems reference should include
A genuinely complete catalog needs to be checked against a current in-game or maintained gem database. For each entry, readers need enough information to tell similar categories and versions apart:
- The exact in-game name and verified category, such as active skill, persistent skill, support, or lineage support.
- The tier or acquisition context, if established for the version being covered.
- Attribute requirements and compatible skills, where verified.
- The game update or date the entry reflects.
Without those verified entries, a list built from patch-note additions alone would omit older gems and could misstate current availability or compatibility. Path of Exile 1 gem lists are not a substitute for a Path of Exile 2 roster.
