Path of Exile 2 update 0.4.0, The Last of the Druids, launched on December 12, 2025. It added the Druid as a playable class, introduced the Fate of the Vaal league, and brought a broad set of new skills, supports, passives, and items. The Druid has two named ascendancies—Oracle and Shaman—and uses Talismans for shapeshifting attacks.

What update 0.4 added

Grinding Gear Games described the headline addition in its official 0.4.0 patch notes as: “Added a new playable character class, the Druid.” The update was more than a class release: it combined new character options with a new league and changes to skills, the passive tree, and equipment.

  • More than 20 new skills
  • More than 35 new supports
  • More than 8 new Lineage Supports
  • More than 250 new passive skills
  • More than 10 new unique items

These are the counts given in the official patch notes; they describe additions, not how many options any one build will use.

How the Druid and Talismans work

The Druid arrived with two ascendancies: Oracle and Shaman. The patch notes establish their names, but do not provide enough detail to make a grounded recommendation between them.

Talismans are a new two-handed weapon class associated with the Druid’s shapeshifting attacks. Equipping a Talisman lets the character transform into an animal form and grants a basic attack for that form. The selected form can be changed, making the weapon type the link between the class’s animal transformations and its combat setup.

What Fate of the Vaal adds

Fate of the Vaal was the league introduced alongside update 0.4. Players encounter remnants of the ancient Vaal civilization and activate temple devices by sacrificing afflicted monsters. They then shape a temple by placing rooms; adjacent rooms can level one another and add challenges or rewards as the player progresses.

This describes the league mechanic in the 0.4 patch notes. Those notes do not establish whether it became a permanent feature, so it should not be treated as a confirmed part of every current league.

Starting fresh and changes for existing characters

The patch notes encouraged players to begin in a new Fate of the Vaal economy. Existing Early Access characters remained in their leagues, and the update granted a free passive-tree refund in light of the changes. That let players reallocate passives without making a new character solely to account for the revised tree.
