If Path of Exile 2 is lagging in multiplayer on your PS5, first work out whether you’re seeing a network problem—such as rubber-banding, latency spikes, or disconnects—or visual stutter. Check PlayStation service status, restart your console and router, compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet if possible, and then test another PoE 2 gateway. These checks can narrow down the cause, but none is a guaranteed fix for every symptom.
Identify what “lag” looks like
Different symptoms point to different kinds of problems. A character snapping back or teleporting can be rubber-banding; rising latency, disconnects, or failed loads are connection symptoms. A choppy image or pauses may be visual performance trouble instead. Network checks can help investigate connection symptoms, but they do not establish that every stutter is caused by the network.
Note whether the issue happens only in Path of Exile 2 and whether you notice it in solo play as well as multiplayer. That comparison helps describe the problem, but it does not prove its cause. Players have reported different behaviors in the official forum, which are anecdotes rather than evidence of one widespread defect or diagnosis.
Check PlayStation service status first
If online play suddenly stops working or other PlayStation services are affected too, check the PlayStation service status before changing console or router settings. PlayStation’s PS5 NW-102417-5 troubleshooting guide also recommends checking for service failure or maintenance.

Restart the console and compare your connection
- Restart the PS5 and router/modem. This is a first step in PlayStation’s timeout guidance and avoids making advanced changes before checking basic connectivity.
- If you use Wi-Fi, improve or compare the signal. Move the console nearer to the router and reduce obstructions, or connect it to the router with Ethernet for a comparison. PlayStation recommends a wired connection as much as possible for this timeout issue, and Grinding Gear Games (GGG) recommends wired networking for wireless latency, disconnections, or rubber-banding on console.
- Repeat the same activity and note what changes. If the symptom improves on Ethernet, that is evidence the local wireless link may be contributing. It does not rule out a distant network route, a game gateway, a service interruption, or a visual performance issue.
If you need a cable to run this test, an Ethernet cable is an optional way to make the comparison—not a guaranteed cure. A wired test can help isolate Wi-Fi; it cannot fix every network or game-side cause.
Try a different PoE 2 gateway
At the login screen, use the game’s options to select another gateway, then compare the same kind of activity. A GGG staff reply in the PS5 lag discussion suggested trying another gateway when connection issues occur. Treat it as a useful experiment, not a definitive repair: player reports vary, and routing and game versions can change.

When to contact support
If the problem continues, send support enough detail to make the symptom reproducible. GGG’s console guidance asks players to include relevant platform and connection information, and its support portal directs players to common issues, bug reports, and technical support. The portal also explains that including an in-game /verify code can expedite a support request.
- PS5 model and approximate time the issue occurred
- Selected gateway or location
- Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection
- What happened: rubber-banding, latency spikes, disconnect, failed load, pause, or visual stutter
- Any error message or loading behavior
- Whether it reproduces, and whether it happens in solo play, multiplayer, or both
Why not start with router changes or reinstalling?
Port forwarding, DNS changes, buying new hardware, and reinstalling the game are not good first moves without evidence that they address your symptom. PlayStation’s timeout guide discusses advanced router configuration, but advises contacting your internet service provider for help with opening ports. Start with service status, restarts, and a wired comparison; consider more involved network changes only when the evidence points to a local network problem.
