There is no single best dinosaur in Path of Titans. The right pick changes with solo or group play, land or water habitat, food access, matchup, server rules and how much practice you have. For a reliable starting point, choose Tyrannosaurus or Allosaurus for large-carnivore group play, Sarcosuchus for ambushes around water, Stegosaurus or Triceratops for a defensive herbivore, and Struthiomimus for a fast, forgiving runner.

This tier list is an editorial guide rather than an official ranking. It is updated October 14, 2026 and is written for standard official cross-platform survival servers. Community servers, game modes and balance patches can change the order. Every placement below is tied to a role, so you can see why a dinosaur is strong and when another choice is better.

How to read this Path of Titans tier list

The game divides its roster into Carnivores and Herbivores. Aquatic and flying species add different movement and food routes to those broad factions. Alderon Games also marks some roster entries as planned rather than playable, so a creature shown on the roster is not automatically available in your current build.

The tier letters describe performance under a stated use case, not a permanent power ranking:

Tier Meaning Typical use
S First-choice pick when the listed conditions apply Strong solo survival, coordinated groups or a dominant habitat role
A Consistently effective with ordinary competence Reliable main characters and flexible team additions
B Good specialist with clearer weaknesses Players who enjoy a particular map, matchup or playstyle
C Viable, but demanding or narrow Challenge runs, experienced pilots and preference picks

The criteria are deliberately separate. Solo survival rewards escape options, stamina, healing and dependable food or water. Group value includes buffs, debuffs, coordinated damage, carrying and support. Combat considers damage, defenses, hit-zone access, turning and matchup spread. Mobility covers land, water, flight and escape routes. Resource burden measures how often your permitted food is available, while learning curve measures the timing and positioning a new player must master.

A June 6, 2025 community tier-list video used enjoyment, kit and playstyle flexibility, mastery, attacks, statistics and solo-versus-group use. Its creator explicitly said it was not official, so it is useful context rather than developer policy. No universal official S-to-D list exists.

Best herbivores

Herbivore rankings are heavily affected by where you can safely eat and drink. Berries are the staple food for herbivores, and most juveniles rely on them until they can eat harder foods. A large defensive animal that cannot reach food safely may perform worse in practice than a smaller, faster one.

Tier Dinosaur Role tags Why it earns the placement Who should pick it
S Stegosaurus Solo, brawler, beginner-friendly High threat at close range and a straightforward defensive game plan make it forgiving when caught away from a group. Players who want to hold ground rather than run from every fight.
S Triceratops Group, frontline, brawler A clear frontline identity and strong value when allies can capitalize on an opening. Coordinated groups that need a visible anchor.
A Eotriceratops Group, heavy fighter Best when your group can protect its approach and keep fights in favorable terrain. Experienced players who enjoy deliberate engagements.
A Struthiomimus Solo, runner, beginner-friendly Speed and route selection reduce the cost of mistakes and make resource trips less punishing. New players learning maps, quests and safe travel.
A Iguanodon Solo, group, flexible A practical middle ground for players who want useful travel and fighting without committing to a pure tank or pure runner. Players choosing one general-purpose main.
A Ankylosaurus Solo, defense, specialist Its value rises when you can force opponents into close, predictable approaches. Patient players who prefer deterrence to pursuit.
B Kentrosaurus Group, counter-brawler More valuable in a formation than while isolated; positioning determines whether its defensive profile matters. Players who regularly travel with allies.
B Lambeosaurus Group, support, resource-aware Useful when the party protects its support role and plans food and water stops. Players who enjoy helping a group rather than topping damage charts.
B Pachycephalosaurus Solo, skirmisher, mobility Rewards timing, terrain awareness and short engagements instead of prolonged trades. Players who like active, opportunistic combat.
B Amargasaurus Solo, specialist, terrain-dependent Its performance varies more with map routes and matchup knowledge than with raw size. Players who enjoy a distinctive niche and know the local food circuit.

Stegosaurus: the safest defensive herbivore recommendation

Stegosaurus is the best starting point when your priority is surviving a mistake rather than maximizing travel speed. Treat it as a space-control dinosaur: choose defensible ground, keep an escape route behind you and avoid being pulled into a long chase. It is a particularly sensible solo main for players who do not yet recognize every carnivore’s approach pattern.

Triceratops and Eotriceratops: frontline choices

These large horned herbivores make the most sense in a group that can create a clean engagement. Your job is to occupy attention, protect smaller allies and turn only when the group is ready. They are less attractive for a lone player who must make every food and water trip without backup. Pick one if your regular sessions already include reliable teammates.

  • COMPACT RESEALABLE PACKAGE: store your pack of Windex Gaming Wipes anywhere in your home for whenever a quick and easy wipedown is needed

Struthiomimus: the beginner-friendly runner

Struthiomimus is an excellent first character because movement itself is a survival tool. You can learn quest routes, berry locations and water timing without committing to every fight. Do not mistake speed for immunity: stamina management, line-of-sight breaks and knowing when to abandon a quest matter more than simply running in a straight line.

Iguanodon: a flexible all-rounder

Iguanodon fits players who want one herbivore for mixed sessions. It is easier to adapt with than a pure defender, yet it does not require the constant risk-taking of a dedicated skirmisher. Use it when your group composition and destination change often, and keep your food route in mind before accepting a distant quest.

Ankylosaurus and Kentrosaurus: defensive specialists

Both are better at making an approach costly than at chasing a retreating opponent. Ankylosaurus suits a solo player willing to be patient; Kentrosaurus gains more from a group that can punish an attacker trapped near its defensive space. Their tier rises on servers where players frequently contest predictable objectives and falls when fights happen across wide open terrain.

Lambeosaurus, Pachycephalosaurus and Amargasaurus: niche picks

Lambeosaurus is a sensible support-oriented choice when allies understand that protecting the support dinosaur protects the whole group. Pachycephalosaurus is for players who enjoy short, timed attacks and quick disengagements. Amargasaurus is more map- and matchup-dependent, so it is a better second main than a first character. None is weak by definition; each simply asks you to build the session around its strengths.

Best carnivores

Carnivore survival is not just about winning fights. Corpses, meat chunks, fish, bones, critters and other players can satisfy different diets, and access varies by species and location. A carnivore that appears powerful in a duel can still lose a tier if its food route is unreliable or forces repeated exposure.

Tier Dinosaur Role tags Why it earns the placement Who should pick it
S Tyrannosaurus Group, brawler, intimidation A clear large-carnivore identity with strong value when allies coordinate pressure and disengagements. Players who want a powerful group centerpiece and can manage commitment.
S Sarcosuchus Aquatic, ambush, specialist Water access creates an unusual approach and escape pattern that land-only opponents must respect. Players who know waterways and enjoy patient ambushes.
A Allosaurus Solo, group, flexible A dependable choice for players who want to move between hunting, escorting and opportunistic fights. Players choosing a first serious carnivore.
A Daspletosaurus Group, brawler, matchup-focused Performs best when the group chooses fights carefully and avoids being surrounded. Players who already understand positioning and target selection.
A Spinosaurus Aquatic, heavy, terrain-dependent Its value is highest near water and lower when forced into long overland rotations. Players who build routes around rivers, lakes and shorelines.
A Suchomimus Water-edge, hunter, flexible Useful for players who want access to aquatic food opportunities without committing to a fully aquatic routine. Players who alternate between shoreline hunting and land travel.
A Megalania Solo, ambush, resource-flexible A strong choice for players who prefer stealthy engagements and careful route planning. Solo hunters who dislike direct brawls.
B Deinonychus Solo, skirmisher, mobility Rewards timing, stamina discipline and target isolation; mistakes are punished quickly. Experienced players who enjoy high-mobility pressure.
B Concavenator Solo, runner, opportunist Better for selecting favorable engagements than for forcing fights against heavier opponents. Players who like scouting and disengaging.
B Latenivenatrix Solo, pack, skirmisher Its value improves when allies coordinate attention and declines when it must trade alone. Players with a regular small group.
B Thalassodromeus Flyer, scout, specialist Flight changes scouting and escape decisions, but aerial play demands map awareness and disciplined landings. Players seeking a radically different survival loop.

Tyrannosaurus: best group carnivore

Tyrannosaurus is the clearest recommendation for a coordinated carnivore group. Use it to create pressure while smaller allies exploit attention and openings. It is not an automatic solo winner: committing to a chase, missing an engagement or arriving at a poor food route can leave a large character exposed. Alderon’s Tyrannosaurus TLC, released March 27, 2025, added knockback immunity while it carries another dinosaur; later balance changes can still alter the practical value of that interaction.

Allosaurus: the safest first carnivore

Allosaurus is a strong default when you have not settled on a habitat or hunting style. It can accompany a group, scout for opportunities and retreat without requiring every encounter to be a full commitment. Learn stamina conservation and target selection before trying to win fights against larger opponents.

Sarcosuchus: best water ambusher

Sarcosuchus is powerful only if you treat water as part of the kit. Patrol a known shoreline, identify safe exits and avoid turning an ambush into a prolonged land chase. It is an excellent specialist for players who enjoy patience, but a poor recommendation if your preferred routes are mostly inland.

Spinosaurus and Suchomimus: shoreline carnivores

These choices bridge land hunting and aquatic resources. Spinosaurus suits players who are comfortable planning around major waterways; Suchomimus is the more flexible pick when you still want regular overland travel. On a dry route with no reliable water access, both lose much of the advantage that places them in A tier.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Megalania, Deinonychus and Latenivenatrix: skill-based hunters

Megalania rewards ambush planning and patience. Deinonychus demands the most from stamina, timing and target isolation. Latenivenatrix becomes more attractive with a dependable small pack that can split attention. Choose these dinosaurs because you enjoy their decision-making, not because a tier letter promises easy wins.

Concavenator and Thalassodromeus: specialist mobility

Concavenator is a good scouting and opportunistic pick for players who prefer to leave a losing fight early. Thalassodromeus offers the most different movement experience: aerial scouting can reveal routes and threats, but landing choices, stamina and exposure on the ground decide whether the flight advantage matters.

Best dinosaur by the goal you have

Your priority Recommended first pick Alternative Reason
Solo survivability Stegosaurus Allosaurus Both give you a clear defensive or flexible plan without requiring a permanent group.
Group frontline Triceratops Tyrannosaurus Each gives a coordinated party a visible anchor, on opposite sides of the diet system.
Beginner learning Struthiomimus Allosaurus Movement and flexible travel let you learn maps before specializing.
Strongest water identity Sarcosuchus Spinosaurus Both make waterways central, but Sarcosuchus is the more dedicated ambush specialist.
Fast travel and escape Struthiomimus Deinonychus The herbivore is more forgiving; the carnivore offers a higher-skill skirmish loop.
Defensive solo play Stegosaurus Ankylosaurus Choose Stegosaurus for a broad frontline plan or Ankylosaurus for patient deterrence.
Small coordinated pack Latenivenatrix Deinonychus Both gain value from isolating targets and sharing pressure.
Flying gameplay Thalassodromeus Check your server’s available flyers Flight changes scouting, food access and escape routes more than any land-only tier distinction.

Diet and food access can change a tier

Diet is a survival mechanic, not cosmetic flavor. The Path of Titans Wiki explains that species must eat different foods. Herbivores generally rely on berries, especially as juveniles, before they can use harder foods. Carnivores may depend on corpses, meat chunks, fish, bones, critters or other players according to their diet.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Even dinosaurs that share a broad diet do not necessarily share the same practical route. The Wiki uses Sarcosuchus and Megalania as an example of species with different food access. Before choosing a main, identify three things:

  1. Juvenile route: confirm where your young dinosaur can obtain its permitted food without crossing a contested area.
  2. Adult route: map at least one repeatable food source near water and one inland alternative.
  3. Emergency route: know what you can eat after a fight, death of a group member or change in territory.

This is why a theoretically strong combatant can rank below a more mobile or resource-flexible dinosaur for solo play. A tier list that ignores food access is measuring arena damage, not survival.

Solo, group and server-rule differences

Solo players should give extra weight to escape tools, stamina, healing and food reliability. A dinosaur that depends on allies to create openings should drop a tier for a lone player. Group players can deliberately elevate support, frontline and ambush specialists because teammates cover their weaknesses.

Whether you’re working from home, gaming through the night, or switching between video calls and documents, getting the screens to your natural line of sight helps relieve neck, shoulder and back strain so you can stay focused longer with less fatigue.
  • Keep Your Desk Organized: By lifting both screens off the desktop, this dual monitor stand opens up valuable space for your keyboard, notebook, docking station or a simple, clutter-free work area. Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.

Server rules can change the answer just as much as a balance patch. Population, community combat rules, quest settings, map rotation and whether mixed groups are common all affect practical strength. Use the tables as a starting hypothesis, then adjust after observing how often your server provides the habitat and opponents your dinosaur needs.

A simple path for new players

  1. Start with Struthiomimus or Allosaurus. Learn movement, questing, water timing and safe retreat routes before choosing a highly specialized creature.
  2. Record food locations. Note berry routes for herbivores and reliable meat, fish or corpse locations for carnivores.
  3. Practice disengagement. Surviving a bad fight is more valuable than winning a favorable one while learning.
  4. Add one specialist. Try Stegosaurus for defensive herbivore play, Sarcosuchus for water ambushes or Thalassodromeus for flight.
  5. Reassess after joining a group. A dinosaur that felt mediocre alone may become excellent when allies can protect its approach or cover its retreat.

Why these rankings will change

Path of Titans is actively developed. Alderon’s roster distinguishes planned creatures from playable ones, and creature abilities receive TLCs and balance changes. The Tyrannosaurus update released March 27, 2025 demonstrates how one ability change can alter group tactics without changing the dinosaur’s name or faction. Recheck the in-game ability descriptions and your server’s patch before treating any tier as permanent.

The historical Wiki overview recorded 21 playable carnivores and 15 playable herbivores when it was crawled in 2024. That figure should not be treated as the current roster count; new releases, planned creatures and platform builds can change it.

The Bottom Line

Pick the dinosaur whose food route, habitat and team role match the way you actually play. Stegosaurus and Struthiomimus are forgiving herbivore starts; Tyrannosaurus and Allosaurus cover large-carnivore group and generalist play; Sarcosuchus is the specialist water ambusher. Treat every tier as patch- and server-dependent rather than an official verdict.
