To configure a Path of Titans community server, stop the server, edit its Game.ini under the section headers documented by Alderon, save the file, and restart the server. The same file controls access, maps, player capacity, growth and quest pacing, survival rules, communication, and several moderation options. You can rent a supported server or run the dedicated software on your own Windows or Linux machine; the right choice depends on how much of the operating system, updates, networking, and troubleshooting you want to manage.

What you need before changing a server

  • Access to the server’s file manager or the machine running the dedicated server.
  • A current copy of Alderon’s Server Configurations reference. Setting names, defaults, and available options can change with game updates.
  • A maintenance window in which the server can be stopped and restarted.
  • For self-hosting: a dedicated Windows or Linux machine, the server files, an authentication token, and a unique server GUID.
  • A record of the existing file so you can restore a known-good configuration if a change prevents startup or produces an unwanted game rule.

Do not assume that an example value in the wiki is a recommendation. A value such as MaxPlayers=100 demonstrates syntax and is not a universal population target. The same applies to sample maps and growth or quest multipliers.

Choose between provider hosting and your own machine

Alderon’s hosting material describes two broad routes: rent a server from a supported provider, or run the dedicated server software on hardware you control. The game rules are configured in the same general way, but the responsibility around the machine and network is different.

Decision point Provider-hosted server Own-hardware server
Who maintains the machine and server process? The provider generally operates the machine and exposes a control panel or file-management method. Ask the provider how to stop the process and edit files. You maintain the operating system, server process, files, updates, backups, and network configuration.
Hands-on setup and updates Usually less machine-level work; provider procedures and available controls vary. Requires installing and updating the server files with AlderonGamesCmd and managing startup arguments and credentials.
Operating-system access Limited to what the provider offers. Full access to a dedicated Windows or Linux machine, subject to your own hardware and network.
Support route Alderon directs rented-server customers to their provider for provider-related problems. Use the Community Server Wiki for setup and configuration guidance; you are responsible for your machine and network.
Total cost Official hosting pages do not establish current prices or a provider ranking. Official material does not establish hardware, bandwidth, electricity, or other operating costs.

Alderon’s hosting agreement applies to hosted or joined servers. Review the current terms that accompany your route. A rented server is not automatically easier to configure: you still need to understand the file sections and restart requirement, while a self-hosted server gives you deeper control but also makes every operational failure yours to fix.

Where Game.ini fits in the configuration

Game.ini is the primary configuration file covered by the official server reference. The wiki groups settings beneath named Unreal-style section headers. The two principal headers documented there are:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
[/Script/PathOfTitans.IGameSession]

[/Script/PathOfTitans.IGameMode]

BattlEye options are documented separately in the same reference. Use the exact header shown by the live wiki and keep each option on its own line underneath that header. A key placed under the wrong section may be ignored or fail to produce the behavior you intended.

There is no single path that is correct for every installation. A provider may expose Game.ini through a web file manager, while a self-hosted installation stores it in the server’s configuration directory. Locate the file within the server installation or ask the provider for its file-manager path; do not create a second file in an arbitrary directory and expect the server to read it.

The wiki notes that values can disappear when they are defaults. That means an option missing from your file is not necessarily broken: the server may be using its built-in default. Compare your file with the current reference before concluding that a setting was deleted.

The safe edit-and-apply workflow

Alderon’s explicit instruction is: “The server must be stopped while editing server files. You must save your edits and restart your server for any edits to take effect.” Follow this sequence for every change.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Announce or schedule downtime. Warn players and record the intended change so you can correlate it with what happens after the restart.
  2. Stop the server cleanly. Use the provider’s stop control or stop the dedicated process on your machine. Do not edit while the process is still writing the file.
  3. Back up the current configuration. Save a dated copy of Game.ini and any companion files you plan to change.
  4. Read the live reference. Confirm the option’s spelling, section header, accepted value format, and any warning attached to it at the official configuration page.
  5. Edit one option per line. Keep the key beneath its documented header. Preserve the file’s encoding and avoid adding explanatory text to a line that the parser expects to contain a setting.
  6. Save the file while the server remains stopped. Reopen it once to verify that the changes were actually written.
  7. Start or restart the server. A running process will not reliably pick up the edit until it has restarted.
  8. Verify in-game and in logs. Join with an administrator account, check the changed behavior, and inspect startup output for parsing or authentication errors.
  9. Roll back quickly if necessary. Stop the server, restore the backup, save, and restart again. Change one variable at a time so the cause is identifiable.

Configure the experience by player-facing goal

The reference contains many individual keys. Organizing them by the experience you want makes it easier to avoid conflicting changes. Always verify the exact key name and current availability in the live table before inserting it.

Access and server identity

  • Server name: Give players a recognizable identity and make rules or region information clear without implying an official Alderon server.
  • Password: Restrict entry for private events or testing. Treat the password as a credential and change it when former participants should no longer have access.
  • Allowlist: Use the documented allowlist controls when access must be limited to named accounts rather than everyone who knows a password.
  • Paid-user restriction: The wiki documents an option to limit participation based on the account’s paid-user status. Confirm the current wording and behavior before relying on it for moderation or eligibility.
  • Player cap: MaxPlayers=100 is shown as a configuration example. It is not a tested capacity recommendation, and the official material does not publish a performance benchmark for that number.

World, map, and game mode

  • Map: The reference uses ServerMap=Panjura as an example. Treat it as syntax documentation, not a claim that Panjura is best for every community.
  • Group size: Adjust the documented group-size control when your rules emphasize small packs, larger social groups, or a particular mode.
  • Time of day: The wiki includes controls for time-of-day behavior. Decide whether a predictable cycle or a different cadence suits your events, then test after a restart.
  • Nests and related world systems: Nests are among the documented gameplay controls. Check the current map and mode requirements before disabling or altering a system that other mechanics depend on.

Growth, quests, and survival pacing

  • Growth and quest rates: The reference shows growth and quest multipliers. A multiplier changes the pace of progression; it does not by itself establish how long a creature will take to mature under every activity pattern.
  • Death penalties: Use the documented controls to decide how costly a death should feel. Explain the rule to players because a penalty that is acceptable in a survival-focused community can be frustrating in a casual one.
  • Hunger and water: These controls affect the pressure to forage and travel. Change them together with any quest or map rules that restore resources.
  • Water regeneration warning: The wiki warns that setting water regeneration too low can cause lag. It also says that if you disable natural water regeneration, you must ensure that water-restoration quests exist on the hosted map. Treat this as a dependency, not as an optional balancing detail.
  • Permanent death: The wiki identifies permanent death as unfinished and warns that it could break character data. Do not enable it on a production community server unless the current documentation explicitly says the risk has been resolved and you have a tested recovery plan.

Visibility, communication, and navigation

  • Chat: Configure the documented chat controls to match your moderation capacity. If chat is open, assign staff who can respond to reports; if it is restricted, publish an alternative reporting route.
  • Map and minimap visibility: The reference includes controls for map visibility. Decide whether players should navigate with full information, a limited map, or a more exploratory rule set.
  • Markers: Marker visibility changes how easily groups coordinate. Test the setting with both a group leader and a regular member, because permissions can affect what each role sees.

Community operations and moderation

Alderon’s community-server materials describe tools for roles, moderation, scheduled restarts, logs, webhooks, and related administration. The exact controls and integrations can change, so confirm each item in the current wiki before building an external workflow around it. BattlEye settings belong under their documented configuration area; do not copy a BattlEye key into a gameplay section.

  • Powerful 8th Generation Processor - The Dell OptiPlex 7060 desktop computer is powered by an Intel 6-core 8th Generation i7-8700 processor, which can reach up to 4.60 Ghz, enabling efficient multitasking.
  • Microsoft Windows 11 Pro – This Dell small form factor desktop computer comes pre-installed with the Windows 11 Professional operating system. Microsoft has reimagined how the PC should work for you and alongside you, and this Windows 11-powered desktop is redefining productivity.
  • Smooth Multitasking – The Dell OptiPlex is equipped with a blazing-fast new 512GB M.2 NVMe solid-state drive (SSD), which stores important files and applications while supporting faster boot speeds and higher data transfer rates.
  • High-Performance Office Desktop – This business desktop computer serves as a reliable workstation, suitable for both home and business computing. The spacious desktop tower case allows for future expansion, making it an excellent fit for use as an office PC.
  • Rich Ports – This Dell OptiPlex computer is equipped with 5 USB 3.0 ports, 2 USB 2.0 ports, and 2 DisplayPort ports, supporting dual-monitor connections. Additionally, a wireless keyboard and mouse are included.

Separate staff permissions from player-facing rules. A role that can restart a server or change moderation settings should be limited to trusted administrators, and logs or webhook destinations should not expose authentication tokens or other secrets.

Illustrative configuration layout

The following is a deliberately small syntax example using values shown by the wiki. It is not a recommended preset. Add only keys that the current reference documents for your desired sections.

MaxPlayers=100

The example demonstrates three important rules: the header must be exact, each assignment is on its own line, and an empty documented section is preferable to placing a key under a guessed header. Growth, quest, chat, group, water, and moderation options should be copied only after you have checked their current names and value formats.

Self-hosting with the dedicated server files

Alderon’s setup guide describes AlderonGamesCmd, a command-line utility used to download and update the server files. The guide lists Windows, Mac, and Linux variants of the utility, while Alderon’s hosting page describes own-machine server hosting as requiring a dedicated Windows or Linux machine. The utility’s presence on another operating system does not change that hosting requirement.

  • EXPANDABLE DESIGN: Two PCIe slots (including PCIe 5.0) and four LFF-NHP drive bays provide robust options for storage and component scalability. Features new MR408i-p controller support for enhanced storage performance
  1. Prepare a dedicated machine. Use a machine you can leave available for the community and administer separately from personal desktop use. Official material does not publish a universal CPU, memory, storage, or bandwidth specification, so do not treat an unverified hardware list as an Alderon requirement.
  2. Install the appropriate AlderonGamesCmd variant. Follow the current setup wiki’s download and update instructions rather than copying an old command from a forum post.
  3. Select the production branch unless your deployment has a documented reason to use another branch. The setup guide identifies production as the recommended branch at the time of its documentation; recheck the guide because branch names and recommendations are version-sensitive.
  4. Obtain an authentication token. Keep it private, do not place it in public screenshots or scripts shared with players, and rotate it according to your administrative policy.
  5. Create a unique server GUID. Do not reuse an identifier from another server. A unique GUID lets the service distinguish your instance and its associated data.
  6. Choose a database mode. Local stores data with the server installation. Remote is documented as recommended when multiple servers need to share data and as a way to reduce the risk that deleting one server folder also deletes the shared data.
  7. Set startup arguments. The setup wiki documents arguments for the port, branch key, authentication token, database, server name, network binding, and RCON. Use the current examples as a checklist, not as a command to paste unchanged: examples contain credential placeholders and assumptions about the deployment.
  8. Start the process and inspect its output. Confirm that authentication succeeds, the selected database opens, the server binds to the intended network interface, and the advertised name is correct before inviting players.
  9. Apply gameplay changes through Game.ini. Stop the process before editing, save, restart, and verify the result just as you would with a provider-hosted server.

Document your port, branch, database mode, GUID, and token owner in an administrator-only runbook. That record makes a replacement machine or disaster recovery far less error-prone without exposing secrets to the community.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Provider-hosted setup

With a rented server, start with the provider’s control panel and support documentation. Identify the controls for stopping and starting the server, opening or editing configuration files, changing the server name, and viewing logs. Then:

  1. Stop the server through the provider panel.
  2. Download or copy the existing Game.ini before editing.
  3. Open the file in the provider’s editor or transfer it through the method the provider supports.
  4. Make one documented change per line under the correct header.
  5. Save the file and restart the server from the panel.
  6. Check the console or log view for parse errors, missing authentication, or a failed launch.

For billing, panel outages, machine availability, or provider-specific file paths, Alderon directs rented-server customers to the provider. The Community Server Wiki remains the reference for the game settings themselves.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Support on Ko-Fi

Networking, ports, and RCON

The self-host setup documentation includes command-line arguments for the listening port and network binding, as well as RCON. Choose values using the current setup guide and your network administrator’s rules. Avoid publishing a full command copied from an example: it may contain credential placeholders, an address that does not match your interface, or a port already used by another service.

Traditional self-hosting has historically involved dedicated server software and port forwarding. In a May 19, 2026 development post, Alderon described NAT punch-through as work intended to make hosting easier for groups across platforms. That post describes development direction, not a guarantee that every network can avoid forwarding or that every platform supports the feature.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Server Manager and NAT punch-through status

Do not treat announced tools as automatically available. Alderon’s August 30, 2026 development post described a free Path of Titans Server Manager app as nearly finished and “released soon.” The post listed planned capabilities including server customization, .ini editing, mod controls, logs, chat, roles, and reports. Alderon’s May and August 2026 posts also described NAT punch-through testing expanding to additional platforms.

Those dated development updates do not establish a general release, supported platform list, or feature-complete behavior on October 14, 2026. Check current release notes and the app listing before replacing the documented file-editing and dedicated-server workflow with the manager or assuming that port forwarding is unnecessary.

Troubleshooting after a change

Symptom Likely checks Recovery
The setting has no visible effect. Confirm the server was stopped during editing, the file was saved, the key is under the correct header, and the process was restarted. Check whether the option is a default that the server removed or rewrote. Restore the backup if needed, recheck the live wiki, then apply one corrected line and restart.
The server fails to start after editing. Look for a misspelled header, malformed value, duplicate or misplaced key, invalid branch or database argument, or an authentication problem. Stop the process, restore the last known-good file or arguments, start again, and reintroduce changes individually.
Players cannot join. Check the server process, advertised name, password or allowlist rules, authentication token, listening port, and network binding. A provider must verify provider-side availability. Use logs to isolate identity, network, or access-control failure before changing gameplay settings.
Water-related play becomes unstable or laggy. Review water regeneration and whether the hosted map supplies water-restoration quests when natural regeneration is disabled. Return to a documented safe value, restart, and test before attempting another adjustment.
Character data behaves unexpectedly after a death-rule change. Check whether permanent death was enabled. The wiki warns that this feature is unfinished and could break character data. Disable the setting, restore a known-good configuration, and do not re-enable it on production until the documentation confirms the risk is resolved.
Multiple servers do not share expected data. Verify that each instance uses the intended database mode and shared Remote database details rather than separate Local stores. Stop affected servers, confirm the setup guide’s database arguments, and make a backup before changing the data source.

How to keep a configuration current

  • Read the live Server Configurations page before every substantial edit; defaults and even available keys can change.
  • Keep a dated change log containing the setting, old value, new value, reason, and administrator.
  • Back up Game.ini and database data according to the database mode you selected.
  • Test risky changes on a private or low-population instance first, especially water regeneration, permanent death, map visibility, and access restrictions.
  • After a game update, compare the file with the current reference rather than assuming every old key remains supported.
  • Check Alderon’s current setup documentation for AlderonGamesCmd versions, branch guidance, startup arguments, and provider listings before rebuilding a machine.
  • Recheck release notes or the official app listing before describing Server Manager or NAT punch-through as available features.

Practical decision checklist

Choose provider hosting when you want the provider to handle the machine and you are comfortable directing provider-specific incidents to its support team. Choose own-hardware hosting when you need operating-system access, are prepared to maintain a dedicated Windows or Linux machine, and can manage credentials, updates, networking, backups, and recovery yourself. Whichever route you select, the reliable configuration loop is the same: consult the current official reference, stop the server, edit Game.ini under its documented section, save, restart, and verify the result in logs and in game.
