Path of Titans Server Requirements: RAM, CPU and Hosting Explained

Alderon specifies a dedicated Windows or Linux machine for Path of Titans self-hosting, not a fixed RAM or CPU minimum. This guide separates player PC specs from server needs and explains self-hosting, GSP plans, setup and sizing.

Short answer: Alderon Games requires a self-hosted Path of Titans community server to run on a dedicated machine using Windows or Linux. Its official hosting and setup documentation does not publish a minimum RAM amount, processor model, core count, or CPU benchmark for that server. The often-quoted figures of 16 GB minimum and 32 GB recommended apply to playing the game on a PC, not to running a dedicated server.

Your practical choice is between operating that machine yourself or buying a plan from a Game Server Provider (GSP). Because no official capacity chart maps hardware to player count, choose and verify resources according to concurrency, configuration, mods, database use and the other work the machine performs.

What Alderon officially requires

Alderon’s hosting guidance gives one clear hardware rule: self-hosting requires “a dedicated machine running Windows or Linux.” Dedicated means the server has an operating system and machine availability you can control for the community server; it does not mean Alderon has approved a particular desktop, cloud size or processor.

The official setup wiki explains how to obtain and update the server files with AlderonGamesCmd and provides Windows and Linux procedures. In the material available for this article, it does not state a server-specific RAM floor, CPU model, clock speed, core count or player-cap benchmark. Any article that presents one of those figures as Alderon’s minimum is going beyond the published requirement.

“Hosting your own server will require a dedicated machine running Windows or Linux.” — Alderon Games hosting guidance

How much RAM does a Path of Titans server need?

No official server RAM requirement is currently stated. Alderon’s support article dated September 22, 2025 lists 16 GB as the minimum and 32 GB as the recommended memory for PC gameplay. It also warns that running other applications with 16 GB can cause performance issues. Those numbers describe a player’s computer, not a dedicated server process, so they cannot be converted into a guaranteed server minimum.

What determines memory use

Server memory demand is workload-dependent. Before selecting hardware or a hosted plan, account for:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • the number of players you expect online at the same time, not merely the account or community size;
  • the map, gameplay settings and any supported mods your community enables;
  • local or remote database configuration and the amount of stored world or player data;
  • the operating system, monitoring, backup and administration software sharing the machine; and
  • whether the computer performs another job, such as game hosting for a different title.

These are sizing variables, not a published Alderon formula. Start with a plan that states its memory allocation, keep headroom for the operating system and observe real use during your busiest scheduled sessions. Increase the allocation if monitoring shows sustained memory pressure, swapping or instability. Do not advertise a player capacity from RAM alone.

Why “32 GB is enough” is not an official answer

Thirty-two gigabytes is Alderon’s recommendation for playing on a PC, not a tested dedicated-server capacity. It might be more than a lightly used server needs or insufficient for a busy, heavily configured instance alongside other services. Treat it as unrelated player-system guidance unless Alderon publishes a separate server specification.

What CPU do you need to host?

Alderon has not published a server CPU minimum, processor family, core count, frequency target or benchmark. Consequently, there is no defensible official answer such as “four cores” or a particular generation of processor.

CPU load can vary with concurrent simulation, connection handling, administration tools, database activity and the number of separate services on the host. When comparing a self-hosted computer with a GSP plan, ask for the resource allocation rather than relying on a marketing label such as “gaming CPU.” Clarify whether the provider gives dedicated or shared vCPU time, and whether throttling applies under sustained load. Those questions help you compare plans without inventing a benchmark Alderon has not supplied.

Does the MaxPlayers setting tell you the hardware requirement?

The configuration wiki shows a MaxPlayers setting and uses 100 as an example value. That is a configuration example, not a claim that every machine can run 100 players smoothly. A cap controls the number of connections the server will accept; it does not prove that the host has enough memory, CPU time, bandwidth or database performance for that audience.

Set a cap that matches your tested workload and community policy. Change other documented options—such as map, password, reserved slots, chat and gameplay rules—through the configuration files, then restart the server because the wiki says edits take effect after a restart. Keep a record of each change so you can identify which setting preceded a performance problem.

Self-hosting versus a Game Server Provider

Alderon identifies two community-server routes: self-hosting and using a Game Server Provider. Neither route has a universal hardware number because the workload and service terms differ.

Decision area Self-hosted machine Game Server Provider
Hardware and operating system You supply and maintain a dedicated Windows or Linux machine. The provider supplies the host; verify the stated RAM, CPU allocation, storage and operating system.
Installation and updates You install and update files with AlderonGamesCmd and follow the Windows or Linux guide. A control panel may simplify deployment, but confirm who performs updates and what access you retain.
Network work You arrange port forwarding, firewall rules, public reachability and a stable connection. The provider normally operates the network edge; check region, ports, DDoS policy and any traffic limits.
Administration You handle uptime, restarts, logs, backups, security and recovery. Support and scheduled backups may be included, but read the exact service terms.
Mods and configuration You control configuration files and the server environment. Confirm mod support, file access, restart controls and restrictions before buying.
Cost model Uses hardware, electricity, connection and your time; no official Alderon price is specified. Recurring price, renewal, cancellation, backup and support terms vary by provider.

Before committing to a GSP, verify the current region, player-slot limit, CPU and RAM allocation, storage, backup schedule, support response, renewal price and cancellation policy directly with that provider. Features advertised by one vendor—such as a panel, SFTP or scheduled backups—are that vendor’s claims, not Alderon requirements or a guarantee shared by every host.

How to set up a self-hosted server

The exact command-line syntax can change, so use Alderon’s live server wiki for the current command and supported architecture. The workflow is:

  1. Prepare a dedicated machine. Install a supported Windows or Linux environment, apply operating-system updates and reserve the machine for reliable server operation. Do not assume the PC you play on is suitable if it must also render the game, stream, record or run unrelated services.
  2. Install AlderonGamesCmd. The setup guide uses this tool to download and update the Path of Titans server files. Its arguments select the game’s server files, the branch, an authentication token and an installation directory.
  3. Select the branch. Alderon recommends the production branch for most cases. Use another branch only when you understand its purpose and compatibility implications.
  4. Protect authentication details. Supply the token as the current guide describes, restrict file and shell access, and do not publish credentials in scripts, logs or support posts.
  5. Give the instance its own GUID. The guide says each server needs a separate GUID. Treat it as an identity for that instance and do not clone one server’s identity onto another.
  6. Choose database placement. The documentation covers local and remote database choices. Select one deliberately, secure its credentials and include it in your backup plan.
  7. Follow the platform-specific path. Windows and Linux have separate instructions. The Linux procedure was tested on Ubuntu 22.04; other distributions or versions may behave differently.
  8. Never run the Linux server as root. Create and use an appropriately restricted service account, then grant only the file and network access the process needs.
  9. Configure and restart. Set the map, player cap, password, reserved slots, chat and gameplay options in the documented configuration files. Restart after edits and verify the resulting log before inviting players.
  10. Test reachability. Confirm firewall and port-forwarding rules from outside your local network, connect with a test account and watch CPU, memory, storage and network behavior under realistic activity.

Network, uptime and security requirements

A self-hosted server is useful only while players can reach it. Plan for a stable upstream connection, a fixed internal address for port-forwarding, firewall rules that expose only the required service, and a restart procedure after power or software failure. Keep the operating system, server files and administration tools updated, but schedule updates so players are not disconnected unexpectedly.

Back up the database and configuration separately from the live machine. Test restoring a backup instead of assuming that a copied file is usable. Restrict remote administration, use unique credentials and review logs for repeated failed connections. These operational controls are not published RAM or CPU requirements; they are the work that makes the dedicated machine dependable.

Can you host on the same PC you use to play?

Alderon’s wording is “dedicated machine,” so the conservative interpretation is a computer assigned to the server rather than a machine simultaneously running the game for a player. A powerful desktop might technically run both processes, but the official material does not promise that arrangement or provide a capacity test. Sharing the machine also combines rendering, game-client memory, background applications and server load, making diagnosis harder.

In a May 2026 developer update, Alderon described work toward easier player-device self-hosting and NAT punch-through. The post discussed an eventual flow in which a player could begin a single-player game and invite friends, while noting that low-end devices might not host reliably. That was a development update, not proof that the feature is released or unchanged. Check the latest official notes before relying on player-device hosting instead of the dedicated-server workflow.

How to choose a starting size without an official benchmark

Use a measurement loop rather than a guessed “minimum.”

  1. Write down your target peak concurrent players, not your maximum community membership.
  2. List mods, map rotation, database location and every other service on the proposed machine.
  3. Choose a self-hosted machine or GSP plan that states its CPU and RAM allocation and leaves operating-system headroom.
  4. Run a private test with representative settings and a realistic number of connected clients.
  5. Record memory usage, CPU saturation, disk latency, network throughput, crashes and tick or connection symptoms during the busiest period.
  6. Raise resources, lower the player cap or remove a conflicting service when measurements show sustained pressure.

This process produces a capacity decision for your particular configuration; it does not turn the result into an Alderon-certified requirement.

Players cannot connect

Check that the process is running, the advertised port is allowed through the host firewall, port forwarding points to the machine’s current internal address and the server is not behind an inaccessible network layer. Test from a different network rather than only from the host itself.

Memory keeps climbing or the machine swaps

Stop unrelated services, inspect logs and measure usage during peak activity. Reduce the player cap temporarily, then add memory or move to a larger plan if the workload—not a leak or misconfiguration—requires it.

Linux installation behaves differently from the guide

The documented Linux steps were tested on Ubuntu 22.04. Check distribution-specific dependencies and architecture, use a non-root service account and consult the current wiki before adapting commands to another release.

Updates break a previously working setup

Record the server branch and version, back up configuration and database files, and apply updates in a maintenance window. Recheck the live wiki because command arguments, supported architectures and setup details can change.

Bottom line for builders and buyers

For self-hosting, the published requirement is a dedicated Windows or Linux machine—not a stated RAM or CPU number. The 16 GB minimum and 32 GB recommendation are for playing on a PC, and MaxPlayers=100 is only a configuration example. Size the machine or GSP plan from expected concurrency and measured workload, then verify current provider limits, backups, region and support if you choose managed hosting.
