Start with this diagnostic checklist
Before replacing anything, write down:
- Which program is named in the error: The dialog may identify an executable, such as an old Panda component.
- When the message appears: Note whether it happens at startup, when opening a particular program, or after an antivirus scan.
- Where the requesting file is located: Check the executable’s full path in Task Manager, Services, Startup Apps, or Event Viewer.
- Whether Windows is 32-bit or 64-bit:
pavdll.dllis a historical 32-bit file, so it belongs with a 32-bit application even when that application runs on 64-bit Windows. - Whether Panda software is still installed: Look for old Panda Antivirus, Panda Antivirus Platinum, Panda ActiveScan, or another legacy Panda product.

The safest repair is usually to repair or remove the old Panda installation that requested the file. Do not begin by downloading an isolated DLL.
What pavdll.dll is
pavdll.dll is a historical application DLL associated with Panda Software antivirus products. Evidence from the older Panda era links it to products including Panda Antivirus Platinum and Panda ActiveScan.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
It is not a normal Windows component. It does not belong in System32 or SysWOW64 merely because an error mentions it, and it is not a standard Microsoft Visual C++ runtime, DirectX component, .NET file, or Windows driver.

Reported version and size information comes from historical third-party metadata rather than a current Panda build manifest, so do not use those values as a modern authenticity test.

The filename alone cannot identify the exact Panda product on your computer. A missing-file dialog can also be produced by a leftover startup entry, a stale service, or a program that is impersonating an old Panda component.
What the error messages mean
You may see wording such as:
- “This application failed to start because pavdll.dll was not found.”
- “The file pavdll.dll is missing or corrupted.”
- “A required component is missing: pavdll.dll.”
- “Error loading pavdll.dll.”
- “The program can’t start because pavdll.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “Cannot register pavdll.dll.”
These messages usually mean that an application tried to load the DLL and Windows could not complete the load. The file may be absent, quarantined, damaged, or located somewhere the application does not expect.
“ The specified module could not be found” can be misleading. It may mean that pavdll.dll is missing, or that a dependency required by the DLL is missing. Reinstalling the owning Panda application is safer than guessing which separate runtime to add.
If the error began immediately after uninstalling Panda, suspect an incomplete removal first. A historical Panda startup component called webproxy.exe was reported requesting this file after Panda Platinum had been removed, which is consistent with an old startup item or service left behind.
Fix 1: Identify the program requesting pavdll.dll
Finding the parent program prevents you from repairing the wrong installation.
Check the error dialog
Read the entire message and note the executable name if one is shown. An error naming an old Panda executable points directly to the likely owner. If it names an unrelated application, do not assume that application legitimately owns the file until you inspect its location.
Check running processes
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Details.
- Look for the executable named in the error.
- Right-click it and select Open file location.
- Inspect the folder path.
A path inside an old Panda program directory strongly supports the Panda diagnosis. A copy found in a temporary folder, a user profile folder, or an unrelated application directory deserves a malware scan before you restore or run anything.
Check Startup Apps
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Startup.
- Look for Panda, antivirus, web proxy, or an unfamiliar entry connected with the error.
- Select the entry and turn it off temporarily.
- Restart Windows.
If the message disappears, you have confirmed that a startup item is involved. Disabling it is a diagnostic step, not the preferred permanent repair. Remove the owning Panda program cleanly instead.
Check Services
- Press Win + R.
- Type
services.msc. - Press Enter.
- Look for services whose names identify Panda, antivirus, proxy, or the executable named in the error.
- Double-click a suspected service and record its Path to executable.
- Do not delete the service yet.
A service pointing into an old Panda directory confirms that the error is probably caused by incomplete software removal. Use the application’s uninstaller or Panda’s official removal utility rather than deleting registry entries at random.

- Press Win + R.
- Type
eventvwr.msc. - Press Enter.
- Expand Windows Logs and select Application.
- Look for an error at the time the message appeared.
- Record the failing application and its path.
This is especially useful when the popup disappears too quickly to read.
Fix 2: Repair or reinstall the Panda application
Use this fix when Panda is still installed and you want to keep that installation temporarily.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Open Installed apps in Windows 11, or Apps & features in Windows 10.
- Search for Panda.
- Select the installed Panda product.
- Choose Modify, Repair, or the product’s maintenance option if one is available.
- Follow the installer prompts.
- Restart Windows.
- Open the program that previously produced the error.
If there is no repair option, obtain the installer through Panda’s official support channel or the original legitimate installation media. Install the same product family rather than copying a DLL from another computer.
A successful repair should restore the application’s own files and dependencies and stop the original program from reporting the missing file. If the program is obsolete and no longer needed, uninstalling it is safer than preserving a legacy antivirus component.
Do not install a newer, unrelated Panda product solely to obtain this file. The exact product that caused the error cannot be identified from pavdll.dll alone.
Fix 3: Uninstall old Panda software completely
This is the most likely fix when the error appears at every startup, especially after Panda was removed manually or another antivirus program was installed.
Remove Panda through Windows
On Windows 11:
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for Panda.
- Select the three-dot menu beside the Panda product.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Complete the removal wizard.
- Restart Windows.
On Windows 10:
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Apps > Apps & features.
- Select the Panda product.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Follow the prompts.
- Restart Windows.
On older Windows installations:
- Open Control Panel.
- Select Programs > Programs and Features.
- Select the Panda product.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Restart the computer.
If normal removal fails, use Panda’s official Generic Uninstaller. Follow its instructions carefully. The utility is intended to remove remaining Panda files and registry entries and may restart the computer.
After removal:
- Open Task Manager and check Startup apps.
- Open
services.mscand confirm that the old Panda service is gone or disabled by the uninstaller. - Check Task Scheduler for a remaining Panda task.
- Restart Windows again.
- Confirm whether the popup has stopped.
Do not delete arbitrary Run keys or services before identifying the executable. Removing the wrong entry can break a different application and leave the actual cause untouched.
Fix 4: Handle antivirus quarantine carefully
A security product may have quarantined or deleted pavdll.dll. Historical antivirus research documented false positives involving this Panda file because of the way older Panda products stored virus signatures. That history does not prove that every present-day copy is safe.

Before restoring anything:
- Open your current antivirus application.
- Select Protection history, Quarantine, or the equivalent.
- Find the detection involving
pavdll.dll. - Record the original file path.
- Check whether that path belongs to a genuine Panda installation.
- Review the detection name and available analysis.
- Update the security product and run a full scan.
- Restore the file only if the security product or vendor confirms that this specific detection is a false positive.
If the file was in a temporary folder, a downloads folder, or an unfamiliar application directory, do not restore it merely because its name matches an old Panda filename. Remove the associated program or submit the file to your security vendor through its normal analysis process.

Fix 5: Remove a stale startup entry or scheduled task
When Panda no longer appears in Installed apps but the message returns at every login, a leftover launcher may still be calling an old executable.
Check these locations:
Startup Apps
Use Settings > Apps > Startup and disable an entry that clearly points to the old Panda program. Restart and test.
Task Scheduler
- Press Win + R.
- Type
taskschd.msc. - Press Enter.
- Select Task Scheduler Library.
- Inspect tasks that mention Panda or point to an old Panda directory.
- Open a task’s Actions tab before changing it.
- Disable or remove it only after confirming that it belongs to the unwanted Panda installation.
Run keys
The common startup locations are:
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRunHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun
Use Registry Editor only after identifying the exact executable. Export a key before changing it, and do not remove entries simply because they contain a DLL name. The proper fix remains removal of the parent application.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components only when Windows itself is damaged
DISM and System File Checker are useful when Windows components are corrupted, but they normally will not recreate pavdll.dll. This file belongs to third-party Panda software, not to the protected Windows component store.
Use these commands if you are also seeing Windows servicing errors, damaged built-in tools, unexplained system instability, or failures involving Windows-protected files.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the application again.
Microsoft explains the DISM and SFC process in its official repair guidance.
Running these commands repeatedly will not replace a deleted Panda DLL. If they report that Windows files were repaired but the same Panda error remains, return to the owning application and its startup entries.
Rank #4
If manually comparing DISM and SFC results, hunting through repair logs, and repeating scans is taking time without identifying what changed, Outbyte PC Repair can show a free scan of the reported problems; repairs are performed by the full version. Reinstalling or removing the Panda application remains the definitive fix when that application owns the missing file.
Fix 7: Check dependencies, runtimes, and architecture
Do not install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET just because pavdll.dll appears in an error. Add a runtime only when the failing application specifically identifies that runtime or another dependency.
Remember the architecture relationship:
- A 32-bit application needs its 32-bit DLL dependencies.
- A 64-bit version of Windows can run 32-bit applications.
- Installing a 64-bit replacement for a historical 32-bit dependency will not solve the problem.
- A DLL with the correct filename can still be the wrong build or incompatible with the requesting program.
If the application reports a missing Microsoft runtime by name, use Microsoft’s supported package source and select the architecture required by the application. Microsoft documents the current Visual C++ package names and architecture choices in its supported Visual C++ Redistributable guidance.
Do Windows Features help?
Usually not. Windows Features can enable components such as .NET Framework features, but they do not restore a Panda DLL.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →To inspect them:
- Open Start.
- Type Turn Windows features on or off.
- Open the matching Control Panel result.
- Enable a feature only when the application’s own documentation or error identifies it.
- Select OK and restart if requested.
Do not enable random features as a substitute for reinstalling Panda.
Fix 8: Update or reinstall a driver only when the evidence points there
A driver reinstall is not a normal fix for pavdll.dll. Use Device Manager only if the failing application also reports a device problem, the event log identifies a driver, or the issue began after a hardware or driver change.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the relevant category, such as Display adapters, Network adapters, or Sound, video and game controllers.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Select Properties and review the General and Driver tabs.
- Use Update driver or uninstall the device and restart only when appropriate for that device.
- Prefer the hardware manufacturer’s official driver source.
When several devices may have stale drivers, manually checking versions and matching each package can be tedious. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and show what needs attention, while driver installation is handled by the full version; it is not required for a Panda DLL repair.

Avoid downloading pavdll.dll from a random DLL website and copying it into System32, SysWOW64, or the application folder.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
That approach can fail because:
- The file may contain malware.
- The download may be a different build.
- The architecture may be wrong.
- The DLL may require other missing dependencies.
- The application may expect a matching set of Panda files.
- Windows may continue launching a stale Panda executable even after the copy.
- A replacement can hide the real reason the file was quarantined.
There is no current official standalone Panda download that should be treated as a universal source for this DLL. Use the original application’s legitimate installer, Panda’s official support channel, or complete removal of the obsolete product.
Does regsvr32 fix pavdll.dll?
Usually, no.
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. It is not a general command for repairing a missing runtime library. Microsoft documents its purpose and syntax in the official regsvr32 documentation.
Do not run:
regsvr32 pavdll.dll
as a routine response to a missing-file message. If the DLL is absent, registration cannot restore it. If it is present but not a self-registering COM component, the command may only produce another error.

If the error still appears after Panda removal
Work through this order:
- Confirm the executable named in the dialog.
- Find its full path in Task Manager or Event Viewer.
- Check Startup Apps, Services, and Task Scheduler.
- Inspect the Run keys only after identifying the exact executable.
- Scan any copy of
pavdll.dlloutside a genuine Panda directory. - Remove the parent application instead of deleting only the DLL.
- Restart Windows and test again.
- If the issue began after a recent system change, review Settings > System > Recovery and available restore points.
System Restore can roll back programs and system settings when a suitable restore point exists. Microsoft describes this and other recovery choices in its Windows recovery guidance.
If a file named pavdll.dll is outside a legitimate Panda installation, has no trustworthy signature, or is launched by an unfamiliar process, treat it as suspicious. Disconnect from sensitive accounts if appropriate, update your security software, run a full scan, and follow the security vendor’s cleanup instructions.
FAQ
Is pavdll.dll a Windows file?
No. It is historically associated with Panda Software antivirus products and should not be treated as a Windows system DLL.
Which Panda product installed it?
Historical evidence connects it with Panda Antivirus Platinum and Panda ActiveScan, among other older Panda software. The filename alone cannot identify the exact product on your computer.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Why did the error start after uninstalling Panda?
The main Panda program may be gone while a startup item, service, scheduled task, or proxy executable remains. Identify and remove the leftover parent application through Panda’s uninstaller or official cleanup utility.
Should I restore pavdll.dll from quarantine?
Not automatically. Confirm the original path and have your security product verify that the specific file is a false positive. A historical false-positive report does not make every current copy safe.
Should I copy the file into System32?
No. It is not established as a Windows component, and global copying can create conflicts or load the wrong architecture.
Will DISM or SFC restore it?
Normally no. They repair Windows components and protected system files, not a deleted Panda application DLL.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Do I need Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET?
Only if the failing application specifically identifies a missing dependency. The mention of pavdll.dll alone is not evidence that any of those packages is required.
What if no Panda software is visible?
Find the executable requesting the file through Task Manager, Event Viewer, Startup Apps, Services, and Task Scheduler. It may be a stale Panda launcher, or it may be an unrelated or suspicious program using the familiar filename.
What is the correct final fix?
If you still need the old Panda application, repair or reinstall that exact product from a legitimate vendor source. If you do not need it, remove Panda completely and clear its verified startup components. That resolves the cause more safely than replacing pavdll.dll in isolation.
