Newzoo projected 936 million PC players worldwide in 2025, with the player base growing 3.1% year over year. That gives a useful measure of PC gaming’s reach, but it is not a revenue figure: the primary-source material cited here does not establish a global PC gaming revenue total for 2025. U.S. spending figures from the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) cover all platforms, while the latest hardware figures below are a Valve Steam survey snapshot from April 2026—not a 2025 census of PC owners.
How many PC gamers were there in 2025?
Newzoo’s 2025 global report excerpt projected 936 million PC players worldwide in 2025, up 3.1% year over year. Both figures are projections from Newzoo, not a count of Steam accounts or a census of everyone who played on a PC. The estimate describes a global player population; it should not be compared directly with a platform’s accounts, survey respondents, or revenue.
How much revenue did PC gaming make?
A global PC gaming revenue total for 2025 is not established by the primary-source figures cited here. ESA’s U.S. consumer-spending totals cover video games across platforms, so they cannot be used as PC-only revenue. They also measure consumer spending, which is not automatically the same thing as publisher revenue.
What the U.S. all-platform spending figures show
ESA’s 2025 Essential Facts report gives the following U.S. totals for 2024. ESA’s later release gives revised final totals for 2025; its March 2026 restatement supersedes the initial figures on that release.

| U.S. video-game consumer spending | 2024 | 2025, restated March 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Total | $59.3 billion | $60.8 billion |
| Content | $51.3 billion | $52.4 billion |
| Hardware | $4.9 billion | $5.4 billion |
| Accessories | $3.2 billion | $2.9 billion |
These are U.S. all-platform totals, not PC-only spending. ESA’s 2025 release initially reported $60.7 billion in total spending and $52.3 billion for content; the final figures above reflect its March 2026 restatement. The figures are rounded, so their components may not add precisely to the reported total.
What later forecasts do—and do not—say
A 2026 summary of Newzoo’s later forecast said PC revenue could surpass console revenue by 2028. That is a forward-looking comparison, not a reported 2025 result, and it does not supply a 2025 PC revenue figure.

What PC gaming hardware is most common?
Valve’s Steam hardware survey is a monthly, optional and anonymous survey of participating Steam customers. Its figures describe a changing survey sample, not all PC gamers or the full PC market. In the survey’s Windows-only panel for April 2026, Windows 11 64-bit was listed at 71.80%, and 16 GB of system RAM at 40.72%.
Those percentages answer different hardware questions: the first is an operating-system share within the Windows-only panel; the second is the share listing a particular amount of system memory. They do not identify a best gaming PC, graphics card, or buying target. Because the snapshot is from April 2026, it is later context rather than a 2025 hardware statistic.

What trends are shaping PC gaming?
Players’ game libraries and playtime
Newzoo’s PC & Console Gaming Report, published April 8, 2025, examines playtime after the pandemic, engagement with new releases versus evergreen games, the number of games people play, monetization, and Steam discoverability. Its public landing page reports a decline in the number of games people play on Steam and Xbox, but does not publish detailed counts there. That is a directional finding, not a quantified estimate of how many games the average player dropped.
Discovery and monetization
Newzoo identifies Steam discoverability and monetization as issues in the market, but the public report page does not disclose all underlying metrics or detailed results. It therefore supports treating discovery and business models as important areas to watch, not assigning them a specific market share or claiming one model is growing by a particular amount.

How to read these PC gaming statistics
- Check the population: Newzoo’s global player projection, Valve’s Steam survey sample, and ESA’s U.S. spending totals describe different groups.
- Check the measure: players, survey shares, consumer spending, and revenue are not interchangeable.
- Check the date: the player figure is a 2025 projection; the Steam figures are an April 2026 snapshot; the 2025 U.S. spending figures were restated in March 2026.
- Check the platform scope: ESA’s spending numbers cover all platforms. They cannot show how much U.S. consumers spent specifically on PC games or PC hardware.
