The PDP Riffmaster guitar controller launched in 2024, so it is no longer accurate to describe it as newly up for preorder. It is available in separate Xbox and PlayStation versions, both listed by PDP for Rock Band 4 and Fortnite Festival. Choose the version for your console before buying; the compatibility lists are not interchangeable.
Which Riffmaster version works with your console?
Match the controller to the platform you plan to use. PDP sells separate Xbox and PlayStation versions, and its compatibility lists differ.
| Version | PDP-listed compatibility | PC support |
|---|---|---|
| Xbox | Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One; Rock Band 4 and Fortnite Festival | Windows 10/11 |
| PlayStation | PS5 and PS4; Rock Band 4 and Fortnite Festival | Not listed by PDP. Best Buy says its PlayStation model is not designed or tested for PC compatibility. |
Check the product name and platform on the listing before checkout. The Xbox model is the one PDP lists for Windows 10/11; do not assume that the PlayStation model will work on PC. PDP Xbox Riffmaster, PDP PlayStation Riffmaster, and Best Buy’s PlayStation listing describe the platform-specific versions.
What the controller includes
PDP lists a 30-foot low-latency wireless connection, a rechargeable battery rated for up to 36 hours per charge, a 3.5 mm audio jack, a built-in analog stick, a shoulder strap, and a collapsible design. These are manufacturer specifications, not independently measured test results. The audio jack is available for connecting audio equipment; a headset is not presented as a required purchase. PDP also lists a separate Riffmaster pickguard, but it is an optional companion item, not a requirement for using the controller.
What happened to the 2024 preorder?
On March 25, 2024, Performance Designed Products (PDP) announced that more than 6,500 standard Xbox/PC and PlayStation Riffmasters had been reserved through PDP.com and participating retailers, while nearly all special-edition units—offered with an exclusive pickguard gift—had been reserved in the first 10 minutes. Those are figures from the launch announcement, not current sales, availability, or stock data. PDP described an April 2024 launch at a $129.99 MSRP and said additional launch inventory and a larger restock were expected later that year. PDP’s March 2024 announcement is the source for those historical details.
In that announcement, PDP Senior Director of Product Marketing Michael Lai said: “The RIFFMASTER’s sold-out pre-orders clearly shows it fills the musical guitar controller void in gamer’s hearts, and we love seeing fans’ enthusiasm for it,” The quotation reflects a company spokesperson’s characterization; the reported preorder figures above are the announcement’s specific evidence.
