The reliable approach is to scout before committing, manage stamina and injuries across the route, and use scavenged supplies to solve the obstacle in front of you—not to follow a fixed loot checklist. The game’s Steam store description says you can play solo or invite up to three friends.
How a PEAK expedition works
Your objective is to climb through dangerous biomes toward the summit. Each section is a sequence of route choices and hazards: assess what lies ahead, decide whether the team is ready to proceed, then manage stamina and injuries as you climb. Steam describes the game as one where “the slightest mistake can spell your doom,” and notes that setbacks can limit stamina.
Scout before committing
Pause at a safe point to look for a plausible route and identify where the next difficult move might be. Avoid treating the first visible path as the only option. When playing with others, agree on the route and who will move first before anyone commits the group to a demanding section.
Protect stamina for the climb ahead
Stamina is a resource for both the current obstacle and what follows. Don’t spend it all on a move if the route immediately continues into another demanding stretch. Injuries matter beyond the moment they occur: Steam’s description warns that setbacks limit stamina, so take them into account when deciding whether to continue, use a supply, or wait for a safer opportunity.

How to climb with a team
Coordinate before difficult moves rather than relying on teammates to improvise after someone is already stuck. The Steam listing describes helping players up ledges and placing ropes or climbing spikes as teamwork options.
- Move deliberately: Let the group know when you are attempting a ledge or exposed section, so others can respond if help is needed.
- Help with ledges: A teammate can assist another player up a ledge; treat this as a way to recover a difficult move, not a guarantee that every climb is safe.
- Place climbing aids with a plan: Ropes and climbing spikes can support the team’s route. Decide where they will help before using them, rather than placing them without considering the next section.
Solo and team play call for different decisions. Alone, you have no teammate to help with a ledge, so be more conservative about committing to a move with uncertain recovery. In a group, shared assistance can create options, but it does not remove the need to manage stamina, injuries, and route risk.

How to choose and use scavenged items
There is no dependable universal loadout: supplies are scavenged, and PC Gamer reports that item spawns differ between expeditions. A location that produced a useful item on one run may not do so on the next. Use the items you actually find and check their current in-game descriptions, since item functions and availability can change with updates.
Choose by the problem you need to solve
Before picking up or using a supply, ask what immediate need it addresses: a survival concern, an injury-related setback, or a specific obstacle on the route. Weigh that benefit against the cost of carrying it and the possibility that a later section will make another use more important. This is a decision rule, not a claim that any one item is mandatory.

Do not plan around remembered loot locations
Use a prior expedition to learn the kinds of choices the game presents, not as a map of guaranteed item spawns. If a needed supply is absent, reassess the route and your team’s condition rather than assuming it will appear at the place where you found it last time.

Steam says the island map rotates every 24 hours, while players can retry the same layout during that day. Repeating a layout can help you learn its route, but it does not make scavenged item locations reliable across expeditions.

Regular progression
For a standard run, make decisions with the hazards, supplies, and team condition you encounter that time. Focus on reaching the next safe decision point rather than assuming a previous route or item plan will transfer exactly.
Custom expeditions
A PC Gamer report from March 2026 describes custom expeditions with configurable hazards and item availability, separate from badge rewards. These settings can change the challenge and the supplies available, so check the current in-game options and reward rules before starting; behavior may differ in later versions.

A quick decision check before a risky section
- Do you understand the route and the next likely obstacle?
- Does the team know who is moving and how someone can help if a player gets stuck?
- Do you have enough stamina and a workable plan for any injuries or setbacks?
- Are you carrying or using supplies for a concrete need, rather than expecting a particular item to appear later?
- Are you playing a regular expedition or a custom one with different hazards, item availability, or reward rules?
