PEAK update 1.28.a, released September 8, 2025, added patterns to differently colored berries in Color Blindness Mode, adjusted tornado and Tomb behavior, and fixed several achievement, inventory, mod-related, and reliability issues. The rare lava-rise desynchronization problem was still under investigation in this release.
What changed in PEAK update 1.28.a?
The September 8, 2025 update was a small feature, balance, and fixes patch. Its notes introduce Color Blindness Mode alongside gameplay adjustments and bug fixes. The version details are recorded in the community-maintained PEAK Wiki patch archive.
How does PEAK Color Blindness Mode work?
In 1.28.a, the mode adds patterns to differently colored berries so players can distinguish them by more than color alone. The notes describe this specific berry change; they do not say the mode applies a general color filter or changes every color-dependent object.
A later official update, patch 2.02.a, said Color Blindness Mode would also make the Arrow Shooter’s laser more visible for players with red-green color blindness. That was a subsequent improvement, not part of 1.28.a. See PEAK Team’s Steam announcements.

What balance changes did the update make?
- Tornado timing: Reduced the maximum wait before the first tornado can spawn, while slightly increasing the minimum time before another tornado can spawn.
- Tornado Hell: Made the biome variant slightly less common.
- TOMB maze: Made it less likely for the maze to be blocked after players enter the TOMB.
- Nest Egg: Increased its weight to match the egg inside.
The notes provide no exact tornado timings or variant rates, so these adjustments are qualitative rather than numerical.
Which major bugs did PEAK 1.28.a fix?
- Endurance Badge: Fixed an issue that could prevent players from acquiring it.
- Scoutmaster: Fixed wall climbing.
- Transformed items: Scrolls, Berrynanas, and other transformed items now drop the changed item rather than placing it directly in the player’s hands.
- Mods and end-of-run results: Fixed a potential range of visual and functional problems after using visual mods or playing with modded players. The issues could affect the endgame screen or report and achievements.
- Tornado-related loading freeze: Fixed a rare freeze on the loading screen after a failed run.
- Backpack loss: Added new backpack physics to address cases where a backpack could be lost.
What smaller issues were corrected?
- Corrected Bugle volume.
- Improved Guidebook resolution when Render Scale is low.
- Prevented a softlock caused by placing a Scout Cannon on top of a jellyfish.
- Restored a missing treetop.
- Removed flickering from the end-game countdown.
- Removed Scoutmaster grain in Photosensitive Mode and slowed the rainbow stamina bar in that mode.
- Corrected a Controls-page prompt from “Move” to “Interact.”
Was the lava-rise desynchronization issue fixed?
No. The 1.28.a notes say the rare lava-rise desynchronization problem was still being investigated. Developers added logging and asked affected players to send logs after a session. The specified Windows log folder is C:UsersYOURNAMEAppDataLocalLowLandCrabPEAK; the notes direct players to support or the bug-report Discord. The release notes do not claim this issue was fixed in 1.28.a.
