Peggle 2 earned generally favorable reviews on Xbox One, while its smaller PS4 review sample produced a mixed-or-average score. Critics highlighted its cheerful, absorbing puzzle action; some also felt the sequel changed too little from the established formula.

How critics rated Peggle 2

Metacritic’s Xbox One page gives Peggle 2 a 77/100 Metascore, labeled “Generally Favorable,” from 39 critic reviews. The breakdown is 26 positive, 13 mixed and zero negative reviews. The page includes 90s from IGN and X-ONE Magazine UK, alongside 80s from Destructoid, Polygon and GameSpot. The IGN, Destructoid, Polygon and GameSpot reviews are dated December 9, 2013; the X-ONE Magazine UK review is dated February 1, 2014. See Metacritic’s Xbox One critic reviews.

The PS4 page gives the game a 72/100, labeled “Mixed or Average,” based on four critic reviews: one positive, three mixed and zero negative. Those reviews date from October through December 2014. See Metacritic’s PS4 critic reviews.

Platform Metascore and label Critic reviews Positive / mixed / negative Review dates shown
Xbox One 77/100 — Generally Favorable 39 26 / 13 / 0 Beginning December 2013; includes a February 2014 review
PS4 72/100 — Mixed or Average 4 1 / 3 / 0 October–December 2014

The scores describe the published review aggregates, not a demonstrated difference in game quality between platforms. The PS4 total is based on only four reviews, compared with 39 for Xbox One, so it is a much narrower sample.

What reviewers praised—and what they questioned

Selected Xbox One review excerpts convey the game’s immediate appeal. IGN called it “one-button joy,” pointing to how combos and bright colors build excitement. Polygon described it as a “ridiculous, excessive, joyful game” capable of absorbing as much time as a player wants to give it. These are excerpts displayed by Metacritic and attributed to publications, not to named reviewers.

Destructoid’s excerpt praised the game’s addictive appeal for series fans while arguing that PopCap could have done more with the sequel. Taken together, these examples suggest the central critical trade-off: Peggle 2 makes its accessible, satisfying arcade-puzzle loop easy to enjoy, but its changes may feel limited to players looking for a substantial reinvention. The excerpts are illustrative, not a complete analysis of every review.

What kind of game did critics review?

Electronic Arts describes Peggle 2 as a puzzle game featuring five Peggle Masters, 120 levels and trials, and Peg Party and Duel multiplayer modes. EA’s Peggle 2 page provides the current product description.

The launch version was described differently. In its December 9, 2013 announcement, EA said the Xbox One release was digital-only and included 60 levels, 60 trials, Peg Party, four new Masters and power-ups. EA listed an $11.99 launch price at that time. Those are launch-era details, not current pricing or a claim that the two product descriptions refer to identical content snapshots. Is Peggle 2 worth playing?

The review evidence points to a good fit for players who enjoy cheerful, approachable puzzle games and value a replayable loop more than a major sequel overhaul. The Xbox One consensus is favorable across a comparatively larger critic sample. The PS4 score is also above the midpoint, but its four-review sample is too small to support a confident platform-to-platform comparison. The cited aggregates do not establish differences in performance, controls or port quality.

EA’s product page presents PlayStation and Xbox digital access, and the PlayStation Store listing labels the game as included with EA Play. That listing does not guarantee the game is currently available through the subscription in every region; check the local store catalog before relying on access. Check the PlayStation Store listing.
