People Can Fly announced on June 1, 2025, that it had suspended development of Project Gemini and Project Bifrost and would scale down teams. The company’s CEO gave different reasons for the two decisions: unresolved publisher terms and communication for Gemini, and a funding and resource shortfall for Bifrost. Contemporary reporting also said 60 people were made redundant amid the uncertainty, but the announcement did not give a total count for all team reductions.
What People Can Fly announced
CEO Sebastian Wojciechowski said the studio had to “significantly regroup as a studio and scale down our teams, which hurts the most.” He also expressed regret over how events had unfolded and gratitude to the people who had contributed to the projects. Gematsu reproduced the full statement.
The formal wording was that development had been suspended. The June 2025 sources do not establish whether either project was later revived, formally cancelled, or otherwise changed status.
Why Project Gemini was suspended
Wojciechowski said People Can Fly had not received a draft of the next content rider to its publishing agreement, which would cover further milestones. He also said the publisher had not communicated whether it intended to continue or terminate the project. The CEO’s statement, reproduced by Gematsu, describes those unresolved terms and uncertainty as the reason for suspending Gemini. Game Developer identified Square Enix as the publisher, citing a People Can Fly current report. Game Developer’s June 3, 2025 report provides that identification.

Why Project Bifrost was suspended
Bifrost was a separate decision with a different stated rationale. The CEO said the Gemini situation, together with the group’s cash-flow analysis, left no prospects for securing the organizational resources and funds needed to continue production and release. What is known about the layoffs
Game Developer reported that 60 people were made redundant amid the uncertainty following the Gemini situation. That figure comes from a separate People Can Fly current report cited by the outlet, not from a total supplied in the CEO’s announcement. The announcement said teams would be scaled down but did not specify how many people would be affected overall.

Game Developer also reported that People Can Fly laid off 120 workers in December 2024. That was a separate earlier event; the available reporting does not support combining it with the 60 redundancies as a single round or as a definitive total reduction. Game Developer’s June 3, 2025 coverage reports both figures and distinguishes their timing.

Contemporaneous coverage said People Can Fly was working with The Coalition on Gears of War: E-Day and with Sony Interactive Entertainment on Project Delta. Those were reports about the studio’s work at the time; the June 2025 sources do not establish the projects’ status in October 2026. Game Developer’s report gives that historical context.
