Nintendo’s official Perfect Dark page lists the N64 release date as 19 May 2000. The Steam listing for Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition gives its release date as 22 June 2000 and names Ion Storm as developer and Eidos Interactive Corp. as publisher. Those dates come from different platform listings; they are useful identifiers, not a basis for judging which game is better today.

What kind of choice does Deus Ex offer?
Steam’s publisher-provided description says: “Talk, fight or use skills to get past obstacles as the game adapts itself to your style of play.” That captures the advertised appeal: progression and multiple approaches are central to the decision of how to proceed. Pick it if that kind of problem-solving matters more to you than a straightforward shooter focus.
What does Perfect Dark offer?
Nintendo describes players controlling special operative Joanna Dark, who earned the nickname Perfect after graduating with top honours from the Carrington Institute. The game’s official presentation is that of a first-person shooter, with multiplayer included among its modes. Pick it if you’re most interested in shooter action, Joanna’s secret-agent premise, or playing with others.

Original Nintendo 64 hardware caveat
Nintendo says the Expansion Pak is required for the original N64 version’s solo missions and for its three-to-four-player multiplayer modes. This requirement applies to that version; it should not be assumed to describe later releases.
Where can you play them?
Official listings show access routes for both games, but availability and subscription conditions can vary by region and change over time. Check the store for the specific version and platform you plan to use.

- Perfect Dark: Microsoft lists it for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and cloud play on its Xbox store page. Microsoft also lists Rare Replay as a collection that includes Perfect Dark.
- Deus Ex: Steam lists Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition at its store page.
Which one should you play?
- Choose Perfect Dark for a shooter-first experience, Joanna Dark’s agent story, and multiplayer options.
- Choose Deus Ex for role-playing progression and the option to approach obstacles in different ways.
These descriptions do not establish which game has more approachable controls, better pacing, or a smoother experience on current hardware. If those factors will decide your choice, look for information specific to the version you intend to play rather than assuming the older release that sounds more familiar will be easier to pick up.
