To start Kou Ichijo’s Strength Social Link in Persona 4 Golden, choose the Basketball Team after sports clubs become available. Choosing Soccer starts Daisuke Nagase’s separate Strength route instead. This guide covers how to start Kou’s link, when to find him, and the recommended choices for each rank.
How to start Kou’s Basketball Club link
- On or after April 19, go to Classroom Building 1F after school and join the Basketball Team.
- Attend the first practice. It begins Kou’s Strength Social Link.
Basketball and Soccer are alternate versions of the Strength link in a playthrough: Basketball leads to Kou Ichijo, while Soccer leads to Daisuke Nagase. Choose Basketball if you want Kou’s story.
When and where to find Kou
Kou is available Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday. On school days, look for him at club practice; on Sundays and holidays, look in Shopping District North. The cited guides list him as unavailable on rainy days, and the detailed schedule also marks the week before exams as unavailable.

At rank 2, either restaurant answer is tied for the top listed points. At rank 4, the listed positive answers are tied; the guide notes there is no +3 answer for that rank. Dialogue choices affect Social Link progress, and carrying a Persona of the matching Arcana can boost points. A hangout does not necessarily trigger a rank-up, because required progress varies.

Completing Kou’s link to rank 10 awards the Letter to Kou, which enables fusion of Zaou-Gongen. The Basketball route has its own character story and dialogue; it is not interchangeable with Daisuke’s Soccer route after choosing a club.
