Before the link can advance from rank 8 to rank 9, you must also see a special scene at Shu’s home.
How to unlock Shu’s Tower Social Link
- Raise Understanding to level 5.
- Apply for the Tutor Job, available starting May 25.
- On a Tuesday, Thursday, or Saturday that is not rainy, go to the Central Shopping District bus stop at night to meet Shu.
Shu represents the Tower Arcana. Bring a Tower Persona when spending time with him: RPG Site’s listed dialogue bonuses include the matching-Arcana bonus, which helps build affinity. Social Link progress uses a hidden point counter, and not every response in every scene awards affinity. RPG Site’s Shu Nakajima guide provides the detailed point table.

Choose the responses below to follow the bonus-maximizing route in RPG Site’s table. Bonuses are shown as reported by that guide, including the Tower Persona bonus. Some choices also raise a social stat.
Rank 1: First meeting
- When Shu threatens you, any response is acceptable.
- For the subject you will teach, choose Math, English, or PE. PE raises Diligence, Expression, and Knowledge; Math or English raises Expression and Knowledge. These are stat gains, not affinity bonuses.
Rank 1 to 2
- Choose “Sure I do” (+2).
- Choose “I’ll stay and help you” (+2); this response requires level 5 Diligence.
- The earlier question can be answered either way.
Rank 2 to 3
- Choose “It’s boring” (+3). “It’s strict” gives +2.
- Then choose “Well, it is the countryside” (+3).
Rank 3 to 4
- Choose “That’s just how it is” (+2).
- Then choose “You’re not the only one” (+2); this also raises Courage.
Rank 4 to 5
- Choose “No, there isn’t” (+2).
- Choose “Put some effort into it” (+3).
- Then choose either “It’s not like you” (+2) or “I don’t mind” (+2); the latter raises Understanding.
Rank 5 to 6
The first two exchanges do not change affinity in RPG Site’s table. At the final question, choose “That’s not it” (+3) or “That’s just one reason” (+2).

At the change-of-subject prompt, choose one of these responses:
- “What I like in a girl is…” (+3; raises Courage).
- “About these murders…” (+2; raises Expression).
- “The other day at school…” (+2; raises Expression).
The formatting in RPG Site’s table makes the value for the last response less clear than the others, so treat +2 as that guide’s reported value rather than a universally confirmed figure.

Rank 7 to 8
- Choose “This guy” (+3).
- Then choose “Cheer him up” (+3) or “Ask him what he’s worried about” (+2).
- The dream question can be answered either way.
Rank 8 to 9: See Shu at home first
After the rank 8 event, a separate scene at Shu’s home must occur before the next rank-up. RPG Site notes that this scene does not immediately increase the Social Link rank. Once the link can progress, the birthday and emotional-response choices can be answered freely for affinity.
Rank 9 to 10
Choose “No, it’s all of you” (+3) or “I am proud of you” (+3).

Why one answer guide may show a different bonus
The walkthroughs agree on the main route, but they do not report every point value identically. For example, RPG Site lists “You’re not the only one” at rank 3 to 4 as +2, while ClutchPoints lists +3. For the route above, RPG Site’s detailed table is the consistent reference; do not assume every guide agrees on the precise bonus. ClutchPoints’ guide independently covers Shu’s unlock and many dialogue choices, while a Steam Community guide also lists the answer without resolving that point-value difference.

Reaching rank 10 grants the Test Results key item, which permits Shiva fusion. RPG Site also describes a maximum-rank fusion bonus. Atlus explains Social Links as relationships developed according to how the player spends days, but its site does not list Shu-specific answers or rewards. Atlus’s Persona 4 Golden site lists the game for Windows, Steam, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Xbox Game Pass.
