To unlock Hifumi Togo’s Star Confidant in Persona 5 Royal, progress beyond Kaneshiro’s Palace, reach Charm 3, gather the lead on the shogi player, and speak to her at Kanda Church in the evening. Bring a Star Persona to meetings for extra affinity, reach Knowledge 5 for the later event, and complete the Mementos request “Upstaging the Stage Mother” to progress to Rank 8. At Rank 9, choose whether the relationship stays platonic or becomes romantic.
How to unlock Hifumi’s Star Confidant
- Progress beyond Kaneshiro Palace and raise Charm to level 3.
- Gather information about the female shogi player. Some Royal guides also list establishing Yusuke’s Emperor Confidant as part of the referral.
- Visit Kanda Church in the evening and speak with Hifumi to begin the route.
These are Royal-specific route instructions; some details may differ in the original Persona 5.

Where and when to meet Hifumi
Hifumi meets you at Kanda Church in the evening. A commonly listed schedule is Monday, Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday. Guides differ on weather restrictions: some list rainy-day availability generally, while particular rank events are described as unavailable in rain. Check the invitation shown in-game for the date and event you are considering.
Carry a Star Arcana Persona in Joker’s stock when you meet her. It increases affinity earned from dialogue, which can reduce the number of extra hangouts needed before the next rank event.

The battle abilities are most relevant if you value flexible party composition, backup follow-ups, or escape options. Narikin’s bonus is conditional on defeating an ambushing enemy in a single turn.

Friendship or romance at Rank 9
Rank 9 is the relationship decision. To keep the route platonic, choose “I want to become stronger.” To start the romance sequence, choose “I want to stay by your side,” followed by “I want us to date.” The Confidant route finishes at Rank 10.

Prioritizing her makes particular sense if you want the party-flexibility abilities or her story. If the gates are not yet met, raising Charm and Knowledge and watching for her in-game invitation will clarify when you can continue.
