A location guide updated August 30, 2025 lists encounters across eleven areas, including two in Sirène, plus a separate Chromatic Petank northeast of Stone Wave Cliffs. That is a reported guide list, not an officially confirmed total.
How to catch Petanks
Petanks turn exploration into part of the fight. They flee through open areas, but AUTOMATON WEST’s April 28, 2025 guide says these encounters include a locking area that can stop the Petank from escaping and start combat. The key is to steer it into that area rather than chase it around the whole space.

- Find the Petank and note the exits and the enclosed locking area.
- Approach in a way that pushes it toward the locking area. Once trapped there, the encounter moves into combat.
- At the start of battle, check how many turns remain before the Petank escapes; plan damage around that limit.
The cited guide does not give a universal route through each arena, so use the terrain and exits you see rather than relying on one fixed approach.
How to defeat Petanks before they escape
Use your limited turns for high-impact damage. AUTOMATON WEST recommends strong skills and Break to make the most of the window. Petanks may attack at close range or from a distance, and can summon Nevrons, so avoid spending turns on low-impact actions while the escape countdown is active.

- Do not shoot the chest orb: it is not a shootable weak point, according to the guide.
- Watch the escape timer: track the remaining turns when the Petank’s turn begins, then adjust your actions to the time left.
The Chromatic Petank is a more involved encounter: Monster-Soluce reports that it can summon smaller versions that restore its health if they escape, and that parries delay its escape. Treat the smaller enemies as urgent threats rather than focusing only on the boss.

The guide reports five Catalysts, one Recoat, and five Colours of Lumina for each listed standard encounter; Catalyst tier varies by area. These are secondary-source claims, not an official game-enumerated checklist, and the list may not include later-added content.

The reported progression is polished Catalysts in the earlier listed locations, radiant Catalysts in Sirène, Monolith, and The Reacher, and grandiose Catalysts in the later listed locations. Item names and quantities here reflect the location guide; consult the in-game reward display if localization wording differs.
What happens if a Petank escapes?
According to AUTOMATON WEST, an escaped Petank returns after you rest at an Expedition Flag. A defeated Petank does not respawn, so the guide does not support treating these encounters as repeatable farms.

What kind of game is Clair Obscur: Expedition 33?
The official site describes Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 as a “turn-based RPG with real-time mechanics” and lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Its site description does not provide an official Petank location list.
