You will play Soul, an assassin framed for murdering his master and left with only 66 days to expose the conspiracy and find a way to survive. The game will combine fast martial-arts combat, more than 30 main weapons, 25 secondary Phantom Edges, and a connected set of handcrafted regions in the Phantom World. It is listed for PlayStation 5 and PC, with a general release date of October 29, 2026; PlayStation and Steam show October 28 in the United States and some other regions.
Because the game is still unreleased, the details below describe announced plans and platform information rather than independent hands-on findings.

What is Phantom Blade Zero?
Phantom Blade Zero is a single-player-focused action RPG set in a stylized martial-arts underworld called the Wulin. The Wulin exists inside the broader Phantom World, where Chinese wuxia traditions collide with occult practices, industrial machinery, mechanical prosthetics and punk-inspired fantasy. S-GAME calls this combination “Kungfupunk.”

The project is described as a spiritual rebirth of the original Rainblood, the earlier game associated with S-GAME founder and CEO Soulframe Liang. The new title is being designed as a larger, more technically ambitious interpretation of that setting rather than as a straightforward remake. Its tone is expected to be dark and violent, but the world is also built around exploration, local characters, side quests and competing martial factions.

Soul’s fall from the Order
The protagonist is Soul, an assassin who serves an organization known as the Order. At the beginning of the story, Soul is framed for killing his master. He is then gravely wounded, leaving him dependent on a temporary cure that gives him 66 days before his condition becomes fatal.
That countdown gives the central mystery a specific consequence: Soul must uncover who engineered the killing, determine why he was targeted, and find a way to survive before the cure runs out. Official descriptions say the conspiracy threatens the martial world, so the investigation is not limited to clearing Soul’s name. It is tied to the stability of the Wulin and to the interests of the factions operating within it.
What the premise does—and does not—confirm
The 66-day figure is a story element, not a real-world performance statistic or a promise that every playthrough will last 66 hours. The available descriptions establish Soul’s wound, the temporary treatment and the conspiracy, but they do not disclose the full identity of the antagonist, the exact cause of the master’s death, or how many endings the game will contain.

The announced setting and characters are being presented as a new entry point into the Phantom World.
Is Phantom Blade Zero open world?
Not in the conventional sense of one seamless, continent-sized map. In 2023, Liang described the design as a “semi-open world” made from multiple reasonably sized, handcrafted maps. A later 2026 account of the official deep dive gives a more specific structure: eight nonlinear, connected regions containing secrets, enemies, side quests, rare treasures and clues.

The two descriptions can be read as an evolution in how the same structure is being explained. The safest description is a connected handcrafted world made of several regions, not a single uninterrupted open map.
What the regions may contain
Examples reported from the deep dive include valleys controlled by bandits, an abandoned warehouse filled with dangling puppets, imposing towers and lakes that can be crossed by speedboat. These examples suggest that the regions will vary in atmosphere and traversal rather than functioning as repeated combat arenas.

That makes exploration relevant to the narrative, not merely a way to collect materials. The exact number of side quests, whether regions can be revisited freely, and how much their state changes after major story events have not been specified.
The Kungfupunk world
Phantom Blade Zero’s identity comes from the collision of several genres. Its martial-arts foundation draws on wuxia fiction and kung-fu cinema, while its machinery and prosthetics add a steampunk-like industrial layer. Occult arts and otherworldly elements give the setting a supernatural dimension, and S-GAME has also cited rock music as part of the intended atmosphere.
This is not a historical recreation of China. The visual language is expected to move between Chinese architectural and costume references, ruined industrial spaces, bizarre weapons and fantastical technology. The result is a world where a traditional martial technique can exist beside a mechanical device or a weapon that would be impossible in a realistic period setting.

Donnie Yen’s role
S-GAME says Donnie Yen is a creative consultant and performs the character Mó Yuan through facial and motion capture. His involvement supports the game’s martial-arts presentation, but he is not identified as Phantom Blade Zero’s director, as the performer of Soul, or as the sole creator of its combat system.
Liang previously wrote that combat moves had to use handcrafted animation because motion capture alone could not do them justice. The current PlayStation description also refers to martial-arts choreography and motion capture. Those statements indicate a mixed production approach: authored animation remains important, while motion-capture work is used in parts of the game.
How combat is expected to work
A large weapon roster
PlayStation says players will unlock more than 30 main weapons and 25 secondary weapons called Phantom Edges. The arsenal is intended to shape how Soul fights rather than serve as a cosmetic collection. Some enemy defeats will expand the available weapons, and the announced systems include weapon upgrades, accessories and reforging.
Named examples reported from the deep dive include:
- Drunken Sword: a weapon associated with an unpredictable martial style.
- White Serpent and Crimson Viper: twin weapons designed for paired attacks.
- Soft Snake Sword: a flexible blade with a distinct movement profile.
- Iron fists: close-range weapons for players who prefer direct hand-to-hand strikes.
- Tiger Cannon: a heavier ranged option.
- Flaming Mane: another specialized weapon with its own techniques.
The public examples are not a complete list. S-GAME has not published final statistics for damage, speed, reach or ammunition, so it is too early to rank one weapon as universally strongest.

Upgrades, accessories and reforging
The announced progression loop has three connected parts. Weapons can be upgraded, accessories can modify a setup, and reforging can recover upgrade materials so they can be reinvested elsewhere. Reforging should therefore reduce the risk of permanently wasting resources when you decide to change weapons, although the exact costs and restrictions have not been published.
A skill tree will unlock weapon forms and techniques. In practice, that points toward builds organized around a preferred weapon family, a secondary Phantom Edge and supporting skills rather than a single fixed moveset. Summons and ranged options are also mentioned, giving players additional tools beyond standard melee strings.
What a build decision may look like
- Choose a main weapon: start with the range, speed or attack pattern that fits the encounter you expect to face.
- Add a Phantom Edge: use one of the 25 secondary weapons to cover a weakness or extend your attack options.
- Equip accessories: pair the weapons with modifiers that support the intended style.
- Invest in the skill tree: unlock weapon forms and techniques that deepen that combination.
- Reforge when your plan changes: recover eligible upgrade materials and move them into a different setup.
This is the announced structure, not a tested recommendation. Final menus, resource names and reset rules could change before launch.

Three named difficulty experiences have been announced. They differ in intended audience and, in two cases, in how enemies respond to the player.

The mode names do not establish whether difficulty can be changed freely after starting, whether accessibility settings are separate from combat difficulty, or whether the 66-day rule can be disabled. Those options should be checked in the final release version.

Release date, platforms and editions
When does Phantom Blade Zero come out?
S-GAME announced a move from September 9 to October 29, 2026. Soulframe Liang said the additional 50 days would be used for character models, environments and launch polish. The general date shown by S-GAME and PlayStation is October 29, 2026.
PlayStation lists October 28 in the United States and select regions, and Steam also displays October 28. This is a regional calendar difference, not evidence of a separate worldwide launch date, so check the storefront associated with your country.

The artbook and soundtrack in the Deluxe Edition are explicitly digital. The available listings do not confirm a physical PS5 disc edition, licensed physical merchandise or a physical book. A separate DualSense controller is not required; it is simply the type of controller whose listed features the PS5 version can use.

- Whether all eight regions are available from the beginning or unlock through the story.
- The final length of the main campaign and the number of endings.
- Detailed weapon statistics, resource costs and the full Phantom Edge list.
- Whether Hellwalker’s adaptive bosses alter attacks, phases, defenses or all three.
- PC system requirements, graphics options and performance targets.
- Physical editions, collector products and licensed merchandise.
- The exact availability period and regional restrictions for the Epic Games Store Fortnite promotion.
No independent sales, audience or performance figures have been established in the official and platform material currently available. The confirmed numbers—66 days, eight regions, more than 30 main weapons and 25 Phantom Edges—describe the game’s fiction and announced design, not measured market results.
Who should be watching Phantom Blade Zero?
Phantom Blade Zero will be most relevant to players who want demanding melee combat but also care about weapon experimentation and environmental discovery. Its structure should appeal to people who prefer connected, hand-built regions over a single giant map, while the three difficulty modes provide a clearer choice between story access and combat intensity.
The strongest differentiators are the Kungfupunk setting, Soul’s short in-story lifespan and the size of the announced arsenal. Whether those systems form a cohesive long-term progression loop will only be clear when the finished game is available. Until then, the confirmed picture is a dark wuxia action RPG built around a time-limited assassin, a connected eight-region world and highly customizable weapon-based combat.
