Phasmophobia launched on consoles on October 29, 2024. Kinetic Games announced the Early Access release for PS5, PS VR2 and Xbox Series X|S; the date is now a past launch, not an upcoming release.
When did Phasmophobia come out on consoles?
The console release date was October 29, 2024. Xbox Wire reported the Xbox debut on that date, and Kinetic Games announced the same date for Xbox Series X|S, PS5 and PS VR2. Xbox Wire’s October 2024 recap and Kinetic Games’ Crimson Eye post document the announcement.
The release was an Early Access launch. Kinetic Games’ console release-date trailer described it that way, and its October 29 launch trailer said the game was out on all three platforms.
Which console platforms are included?
- PlayStation 5: The US PlayStation Store listing gives October 29, 2024 as the PS5 release date. Check the PlayStation Store listing for its current regional storefront details.
- PlayStation VR2: The game’s VR features are available with PS VR2. The headset is required for those VR features, not for ordinary PS5 play, according to the US PlayStation Store listing.
- Xbox Series X|S: Xbox Wire reported the Xbox debut for October 29, 2024.
In a PlayStation Blog post published October 25, 2024, Kinetic Publishing marketing and partnerships director Asim Tanvir wrote: “Gather your friends, grab your EMF Reader and prepare for spine-chilling ghost hunts as Phasmophobia is finally coming to PS5 and PS VR2 on October 29, 2024.” The post focused on the PlayStation release; Kinetic Games separately listed Xbox Series X|S alongside the PlayStation platforms. Can players on different platforms play together?
Kinetic Games described PC-console cross-play for the console release. The PlayStation Store listing also describes cross-play and four-player online co-op. Its listing says players can play solo or with up to three friends, so a full co-op group can have four players.
Which version should you choose?
The practical choice depends on which hardware you own, whether you want to play in VR, and where the friends you want to join are playing. Choose PS VR2 specifically for the headset-based VR experience; it is not a stated requirement for standard PS5 play. For playing across PC and console, Kinetic Games’ announcement confirms cross-play. Current prices, platform feature parity and present development status are not established by these release announcements.
