In Phasmophobia, ghost behavior is best used to narrow possibilities—not to identify a ghost from one striking event. Record what you observe, compare it with the Evidence in your Journal, and check current patch notes before relying on a specific behavior: ghost mechanics and fixes can change between updates.
How to use behavior clues
Start with observations, not a ghost name. Note what happened, where it happened, and whether another player saw the same thing. Then compare the behavior with evidence recorded in the Journal and the remaining candidates. A behavior can be distinctive, but it can also be compatible with several ghosts or explained by a mechanic that has changed.
- Record the event: Describe the action plainly rather than interpreting it. For example, note that a door moved instead of immediately concluding that a particular ghost caused it.
- Check the Journal: Compare the Evidence you have actually recorded with the possible ghost types.
- Test the fit: Ask whether the behavior strongly distinguishes a candidate or is merely consistent with it.
- Check update context: Prefer current official patch notes for exact mechanics; treat older community guides as historical reference.
- Make the identification from the combined clues: Avoid treating one ambiguous event as confirmation.
A community-authored Full Ghost Personality Guide – Ascension Update can offer ideas for interpreting behavior, but it dates to 2023 and should not be treated as a definitive guide to the current game.
Use the Journal to coordinate evidence
Kinetic Games’ official Steam announcement material surfaced a 2026 update in which the Journal displays other players’ Evidence and Ghost Type selections. That makes the Journal useful for comparing what teammates have selected during an investigation. The available announcement result does not establish every Journal interaction or platform-specific detail, so consult the current in-game Journal and update notes for those specifics.
#1 Best Overall
- LEARN SCIENCE: Players will interact and learn the fundamentals of ionic bonding through creating neutrally charged compounds, noble gases, charges, anions and cations, and acids and bases. Science geeks will love playing this game with their classroom, family, and friends in this fast-paced pick-and-pass card game.
- FAST PACED: Ion is a fast-paced card game for 2-7 players spanning around 20-30 minutes. Each round, players compete to build compounds using positively and negatively charged ions. Points are scored for successful compounds, Noble Gases, and achieving Goal Cards. After 3 rounds, the player with the most points wins!
- PICK AND PASS: Each player starts with a hand of 10 cards, and chooses one card to place in front of them. They then pass the rest of their hand to the player on their right, where they continue playing and passing cards until every card is used. Your goal is to match the positive and negative charges on your cards to create neutrally charged compounds, scoring points.
- SCIENTIFICALLY ACCURATE: All of Genius Games's products are peer-reviewed by a team of 20+ PhD Doctors and Scientists from around the globe. Ion also contains a Science Behind booklet, detailing how the mechanics and cards found in game relate to their real world concepts. Ion is also STEM and NGSS complaint, and was awarded the Dice Tower Seal of Approval. This game is perfect for at home learning, for use in the classroom, or adding some science to your next family game night.
- RADIOACTIVE CARD GAME: Also included is a harder difficulty which includes radioactivity. Recommended for more experience players and a party of 4+ people. This advanced game requires players to manage radioactive decay along with the radioactivity of other players. These cards score points at the end of each round, and additional points are given to the player(s) with the most decay at the end of the game. Step up your game with this challenging card game!

A DOTS behavior example—and why patch context matters
One official patch note describes a short DOTS state: a ghost with DOTS evidence can briefly become visible with infrared light and wander toward a nearby player in the same room before disappearing. The note says Banshees instead try to roam toward their target. This is a specific example from patch material, not a complete guide to every ghost or a guarantee that the behavior remains unchanged in the current version.

- Dripping horror text inspired by paranormal themes for spooky seasonal appeal
- Bold high-contrast lettering that stands out on dark backgrounds at night events
- Lightweight, Classic fit, Double-needle sleeve and bottom hem
Read the original official patch text alongside newer notes if you are using this detail to identify a ghost. In particular, do not assume that every DOTS appearance will reproduce the same movement in every situation.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why unusual behavior can mislead
Behavior descriptions are version-sensitive. An official update preview surfaced a fix concerning ghost types mimicking a Yurei door ability—a reminder that an unusual door event can reflect an interaction or bug fix, not a reliable standalone identifier. Check the update preview and the current official notes before drawing a firm conclusion from an exact mechanic.

The available official update results show that update activity continued in 2026, including a v0.19.1.0 announcement, but they do not establish a complete current roster or a full ghost-by-ghost behavior and evidence table. For a disputed mechanic, the safest approach is to verify it against the latest game notes rather than treating an old chart as current.

How to judge a behavior claim
- Evidence in your Journal: Give more weight to clues you have recorded than to a behavior description that only seems to fit.
- Distinctiveness: Ask whether the behavior separates one candidate from the others, or whether multiple ghosts could plausibly produce it.
- Source and date: Current official notes are the better reference for exact mechanics. A community guide from 2023 can provide context, but it may predate changes.
- Patch history: Look for updates that changed or fixed the behavior before relying on an older observation table.
- Repeatability: If practical, look for corroborating clues rather than making the call from one ambiguous event.
