That count comes from a secondary report of a December 2025 interview with S-GAME creator Soulframe Liang; the game was still unreleased as of October 8, 2026, so its routes and ending conditions had not been independently verified.
How many endings does Phantom Blade Zero have?
The reported count is eight endings. Phantom Blade Zero Guide attributes the figure to Liang in a December 2025 Game Rant interview, quoting him as saying the endings depend on how many side quests players complete. The original interview was not available in the sources retrieved for this article, so the exact number remains a secondary-reported claim rather than a count confirmed on an official game page. There is independent official support for the broader idea that optional content can change the story: in an August 17, 2026 PlayStation Blog post, Liang said that interacting with characters and completing some side quests might open new story paths. Steam also lists “Multiple Endings” among the game’s features, but neither source specifies the total. PlayStation Blog · Steam
Do side quests affect the ending?
That is what the reported interview suggests. Liang’s remarks, as reproduced by the secondary report, connect the ending count to how many side quests are completed; the developer-authored PlayStation post more cautiously says some quests might open new story paths. Together, these statements indicate that optional content matters, but they do not identify which quests affect which outcomes.

What else may change an ending?
The same interview report describes a story-point variation tied to whether the player has “something” at a particular point. It does not name the item or checkpoint, explain what happens if the item is missing, or establish how this factor combines with side quests.
These are the publicly reported variables—not a complete route guide. The cited official materials do not spell out route triggers, specific ending requirements, save branching, or whether New Game Plus is needed to see every ending. Weapon choices and difficulty modes are mentioned in the developer’s PlayStation post, but it does not say that either determines an ending.

Does the reported count mean eight playthroughs?
Not necessarily. Eight endings does not establish that players need eight full runs: the available sources do not explain how the game handles branching, checkpoints, or saves. Until those mechanics are documented, it is not possible to say how many playthroughs are needed—or whether a particular ending can be reached by reloading a save.
Should you complete optional content?
If you want to avoid missing story paths, completing side quests is the cautious choice. The public statements give a reason to explore and interact with characters, but do not promise that every side quest changes an ending or guarantee a particular outcome. Players prioritizing a specific route will need to wait for verified details about individual quests and story-point requirements.
