Choose by connector first, then by fit and game support. A Lightning iPhone needs a Lightning-specific controller; a USB-C iPhone or Android phone needs a USB-C model. After that, check your phone’s length, thickness, camera bump and case, then confirm that the games you play support controllers natively or that the exact controller and operating system provide a suitable remapping method.
This comparison uses three clearly identified products: Backbone One in its USB-C and Lightning versions, Razer Kishi V2 in its USB-C and Lightning versions, and the wired USB-C GameSir G8 Galileo. GameSir’s X2s Type-C is mentioned separately because it is a different controller with different fit limits. The available manufacturer documentation does not establish a fair winner for comfort, durability, latency or reliability, so the useful verdict is constraint-based rather than a subjective ranking.

What is actually being compared?
“Backbone One,” “Razer Kishi” and “GameSir” are families or brand names, not single interchangeable devices. Connector variants and generations matter. The comparison below treats the Backbone One USB-C and Lightning models, Razer Kishi V2 USB-C and Lightning models, and GameSir G8 Galileo as the main choices.
Backbone One
Backbone sells separate USB-C and Lightning versions. Its USB-C product is described for Android phones and USB-C iPhones; the Lightning product is for iPhones with Lightning ports. The Lightning page directs iPhone 15 and iPhone 16-series owners to the USB-C version, so the name “Backbone One” alone is not enough to identify compatibility.

Razer Kishi V2
Razer lists USB-C and Lightning versions of Kishi V2. The USB-C version is intended for Android and USB-C iPhone devices, while the Lightning version is for compatible Lightning iPhones. Buy the connector-specific model rather than assuming a Kishi V2 will switch between phone generations.
GameSir G8 Galileo
The G8 Galileo is the main GameSir example here: a wired Type-C controller with a published fit range and several hardware features. It is not the same product as the GameSir X2s Type-C. The X2s has its own operating-system and size requirements and should be evaluated separately.
Start with the phone connector
| Controller | USB-C phones | Lightning phones | Connection type |
|---|---|---|---|
| Backbone One USB-C | Android and USB-C iPhone, according to Backbone’s product description | No | Direct USB-C connection |
| Backbone One Lightning | No | Compatible Lightning iPhone | Direct Lightning connection |
| Razer Kishi V2 USB-C | Android and USB-C iPhone, according to Razer’s product description | No | Direct USB-C connection |
| Razer Kishi V2 Lightning | No | Compatible Lightning iPhone | Direct Lightning connection |
| GameSir G8 Galileo | USB-C phones within the published physical limits | No | Wired USB-C |
| GameSir X2s Type-C | Android and USB-C devices meeting its requirements | Its FAQ names iPhone 15-series support; verify the current model list | Wired USB-C |
There is no adapter-based shortcut that turns a Lightning controller into a USB-C model, or vice versa, in the manufacturer compatibility information used here. Treat the port as a hard first filter.
Check physical fit before features
A connector can be correct while the phone still fails to fit. Cases add thickness, camera islands can interfere with the bridge or plug, and a phone outside the controller’s length range may not seat safely.
| Model | Published fit information | Case and camera qualification |
|---|---|---|
| GameSir G8 Galileo | Phone length 110–185 mm; body depth no more than 13 mm | Camera depth no more than 5 mm; cases up to 1 mm thick |
| GameSir X2s Type-C | Phone length 110–168 mm in the connection tutorial; iOS 14 or later and Android 8.0 or later | Case thickness up to 1 mm |
| Backbone One | Exact universal length, depth and camera-clearance figures are not stated in the cited product pages | Check the current compatibility list for your phone and case |
| Razer Kishi V2 | Exact universal length, depth and camera-clearance figures are not stated in the cited product page | Check Razer’s current compatibility information and remove a case if necessary |
Measure the phone itself, not just the manufacturer’s diagonal screen size. Record the overall length, thickness at the thickest point, camera-bump depth and case thickness. For a G8 Galileo, a phone longer than 185 mm, deeper than 13 mm, with a camera projection over 5 mm, or in a case thicker than 1 mm falls outside the published limits. The X2s Type-C has the narrower 110–168 mm length range.

Feature comparison
| Feature | Backbone One | Razer Kishi V2 | GameSir G8 Galileo |
|---|---|---|---|
| Passthrough charging | Verify the exact connector version’s current specifications | USB-C passthrough charging is documented by Razer | Passthrough charging is listed; GameSir warns that not all phones support it |
| Headphone connection | Not established in the cited Backbone pages | Not established in the cited Kishi V2 page | 3.5 mm audio jack listed by GameSir |

| Software customization | Backbone app and supported services are described, but a like-for-like remapping specification is not established here | Razer Nexus remapping feature for selected games | Software customization listed by GameSir |
These are manufacturer-listed capabilities, not a controlled test. A listed Hall Effect stick or passthrough port does not by itself prove lower latency, longer life or better ergonomics.
Native controller support versus touch remapping
Mobile games must recognize controller input. A controller will not automatically convert every touch-only game into a gamepad title.
Native support
Native support is the cleanest path: the game exposes controller actions, handles buttons and sticks itself, and usually avoids an on-screen overlay. Check the game’s current documentation or in-game settings for controller support on your operating system. Support can differ between iOS and Android, between a mobile version and a streamed version, and between a game and its cloud or remote-play client.
Razer Nexus remapping
Razer describes a Nexus feature that can remap touchscreen controls in selected mobile games. “Selected” is important: remapping is software-dependent, game-dependent and platform-dependent, not a universal guarantee. Confirm that the exact game and phone operating system appear in the current Nexus support information before buying on this basis.

GameSir touch-mapping caution
GameSir’s support material for the related G8+ MFi model says Android touch-mapping functions are unavailable on iOS because of platform restrictions and advises iOS users to play titles with native controller support. That is a warning about the operating system, not proof that every G8 Galileo or X2s function behaves identically. Check the manual for the exact GameSir model you intend to use.

Backbone One: strengths and limits
When it makes sense
Backbone’s product pages position the controller for native mobile games, cloud gaming and remote play. Named examples include Xbox Game Pass, Apple Arcade, GeForce NOW, Amazon Luna, and PlayStation or PC remote play. Those names describe possible services and use cases, not a promise that every title, subscription or feature is available in your country or on your phone.
The main practical advantage is having a clearly defined connector choice for both Lightning and USB-C iPhones, as well as Android support on the USB-C model. If your phone is a USB-C iPhone or Android device, select the USB-C Backbone; if it is a Lightning iPhone, select the Lightning model.
Android PlayStation Remote Play qualification
Backbone’s documentation gives an Android-specific restriction: the official PlayStation Remote Play app supports the Backbone One PlayStation Edition on Android, while other Backbone controllers are not supported there. Do not treat the general remote-play marketing language as confirmation that every Backbone edition works with that Android app.
What is not established
The cited Backbone pages do not provide a comparable set of fit measurements, audio-jack information or performance tests for a three-way hardware verdict. Verify those details for the exact version if they determine your purchase.

Razer Kishi V2: strengths and limits
When it makes sense
Kishi V2 is a practical choice when you need a connector-specific controller for Android, USB-C iPhone or Lightning iPhone and want documented USB-C passthrough charging on the appropriate version. Its Nexus software adds a remapping route for selected touch games.
Remapping is not universal compatibility
Use Nexus remapping as a possible solution for a particular game, not as a blanket promise. A game may block overlays, change its touch layout, or be supported on one operating system and not another. Test the title’s current compatibility information before relying on remapping for a large library.
Fit verification
The cited Kishi V2 page does not establish one universal phone-length, depth and camera-clearance table. Check Razer’s current device list, especially if you use a thick case, a folding phone, a large camera island or a phone with unusual port placement.
GameSir G8 Galileo: strengths and limits
Published hardware features
GameSir lists Hall Effect sticks, analog triggers, two back buttons, software customization, a 3.5 mm audio jack and passthrough charging for the G8 Galileo. Passthrough charging carries an explicit qualification: some phones do not support it. Treat every listed feature as a specification to verify against your phone and operating system, not as a measured performance result.

Strict physical limits
The G8’s 110–185 mm length range, 13 mm maximum phone depth, 5 mm maximum camera depth and 1 mm case allowance make fit checking unusually concrete. Remove a case during measurement if it exceeds the allowance; do not force the phone against the connector or camera bridge.
Best Value
- Compatible with Android devices and fits mobile devices ranging from 100mm to 170mm in length.
- Hall Effect Joysticks and Triggers
- Refined bumpers and D-pad. Light and tactile.
- 2 Pro back paddle buttons
- Profile button. Wear-resistant metal joystick rings. Turbo function.
Wired-use implications
Because the G8 Galileo connects through USB-C, it is not a wireless controller that can be used independently of the phone port. The wired path can be useful for direct input and audio passthrough, but the phone’s USB-C behavior still determines whether charging passthrough works.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.GameSir X2s Type-C: a separate alternative
The X2s Type-C is smaller in the published fit range than the G8 Galileo. Its connection tutorial specifies iOS 14 or later, Android 8.0 or later, phone length of 110–168 mm and case thickness up to 1 mm. Its FAQ names iPhone 15-series support and describes wired operation, Hall Effect sticks and analog triggers.
Do not substitute the X2s figures for the G8. A phone that fits the G8’s 185 mm maximum may exceed the X2s’s 168 mm limit. Conversely, the X2s’s iPhone 15 support does not make it compatible with every Lightning iPhone.

You have a Lightning iPhone
- Limit the shortlist to Lightning-specific Backbone One or Razer Kishi V2 models and any GameSir model whose current documentation explicitly supports your iPhone.
- Check the exact iPhone generation, case thickness and camera clearance.
- Confirm native controller support for your main games; iOS touch-mapping options may be restricted.
You have a USB-C iPhone
- Compare the USB-C Backbone One and USB-C Kishi V2 with USB-C GameSir models.
- Measure the phone and case before considering the G8 or X2s.
- If you need a headphone jack or back buttons, the G8’s listed specifications make it the clearest documented match, subject to fit.
You have an Android phone
- Choose among USB-C variants and verify Android-version and device-list requirements.
- For the X2s, check Android 8.0 or later and the 110–168 mm range; for the G8, check the 110–185 mm range and depth limits.
- If PlayStation Remote Play is central, check the Backbone Android restriction before buying.
- For touch-only games, verify the exact remapping support rather than assuming Android makes every title compatible.
You need charging while playing
Razer Kishi V2 documents USB-C passthrough charging. GameSir G8 documents passthrough charging but says support varies by phone. For Backbone, verify the exact connector model’s current specifications. Also check whether your phone’s port, case and charger arrangement leave enough clearance.
You need wired headphones
The G8 Galileo page lists a 3.5 mm audio jack. The cited Backbone and Kishi V2 material does not establish an equivalent jack, so do not assume one is present.
Setup checklist
- Identify the port. Record Lightning or USB-C and select only the matching controller variant.
- Remove or measure the case. Compare case thickness and camera projection with the model’s allowance.
- Measure the phone. Use millimeters for overall length and thickness; compare with the G8 or X2s limits when applicable.
- Update the phone and controller software. Install the controller’s official app when customization, firmware or remapping requires it.
- Test one native game. Confirm that buttons, sticks, triggers and menu navigation work before troubleshooting remapping.
- Test charging and audio separately. Passthrough charging may depend on the phone, and a 3.5 mm jack is model-specific.
- Only then test remapping. Use the exact game and operating-system combination documented by the controller maker.
Common problems and fixes
The phone does not connect
- Recheck that the controller connector matches the phone port; a Lightning model will not become USB-C compatible.
- Remove the case and reseat the phone so the plug is fully inserted without pressure.
- Restart the phone, update the controller app or firmware, and test a known native controller game.
The phone fits but the camera touches the controller
- Compare the camera projection with the G8’s 5 mm maximum if using that model.
- Remove a case thicker than the published allowance.
- Do not force the phone into place; choose a model with a compatible clearance list instead.
Buttons work in one game but not another
- Check whether the second game has native controller support.
- If using Nexus or another mapper, confirm that the title and operating system are supported.
- On iOS, assume touch-mapping restrictions may apply and prefer native controller support unless the exact manual says otherwise.
Passthrough charging fails
- Verify that the phone supports charging through the controller; GameSir explicitly says this is not universal for the G8.
- Try a compatible charger and remove the case if the plug cannot seat completely.
- Test charging with the game closed to separate a power-path issue from an app or firmware issue.
Price, availability and evidence limits
No consistent, date-stamped price comparison is established for these products. Street prices, retailer stock, regional editions and bundle contents change, so check the exact connector variant in your country at the time of purchase. A low price on the wrong port or generation is not a saving.
The specifications above come from manufacturer product and support documentation. They do not establish a controlled comparison of comfort, button feel, latency, durability, battery impact or long-term reliability. Those qualities can vary with phone size, case, game and personal hand position.

There is no evidence-supported overall winner among these three paths. Choose Backbone One or Razer Kishi V2 when their connector-specific model and your phone’s game library align; choose between them using documented features such as Razer’s selected-game remapping and passthrough charging, while verifying Backbone details for the exact version. Choose GameSir G8 Galileo when its published fit limits work for your phone and you value the listed 3.5 mm jack, Hall Effect sticks, analog triggers, two back buttons and customization. Consider the X2s Type-C only as a separate, shorter-phone option with its own iOS, Android and case requirements.
