Yes—Pikmin 3 Deluxe is a strong strategy-adventure for newcomers, and its local co-op and optional assists make it easier to approach. For Wii U owners, the decision is less clear: the Switch edition adds useful content and conveniences, but whether they justify buying the game again depends on how much you value portability, co-op, and its new side stories.
What kind of game is Pikmin 3 Deluxe?
It is the Nintendo Switch edition of Pikmin 3, a strategy adventure about three explorers who land on the planet PNF-404 in search of food for their home. You direct squads of Pikmin, each with different strengths and abilities, to clear obstacles, battle creatures, and gather fruit. What’s new in Pikmin 3 Deluxe?
The Switch edition adds content and features to the original game rather than replacing its central adventure. Nintendo lists:

Can you play Pikmin 3 Deluxe co-op?
Yes. A second player can join on the same system in Story and Mission modes, while Bingo Battle offers head-to-head play. These are local multiplayer features; Nintendo’s cited feature description does not establish online co-op. Nintendo’s multiplayer description specifies the supported modes.
On Nintendo Switch Lite, local multiplayer requires detached Joy-Con controllers and a charging device, which Nintendo says are sold separately.

What do reviews say about the game?
Nintendo Life treats the Switch release as a definitive port, highlighting its added conveniences and replayable Mission and Side Story content. GameSpot likewise praises the core gameplay and carefully constructed levels, while noting that the new content is not extensive and that the improvements are especially helpful to newer players. These reviews point to a durable game, but not to a dramatically expanded sequel.
For newcomers, the strategic squad-management loop and a package that includes added content make the Switch edition a compelling way to play. Is Pikmin 3 Deluxe worth buying if you played it on Wii U?
It can be, but the case is narrower than it is for a first-time player. Consider a second purchase if you want to play on Switch, expect to use local co-op, or are interested in the Olimar and Louie Side Stories and other added activities. If you mainly want the original campaign and already own it on Wii U, the new material may not feel substantial enough on its own. That trade-off reflects the reviewers’ perspectives, not a universal verdict.
Does Pikmin 3 Deluxe have a Nintendo Switch 2 update?
Nintendo’s current store listing says a free update enhances gameplay on Nintendo Switch 2. The listing does not establish the patch number, exact changes, or regional rollout, so check Nintendo’s current update notes for details rather than assuming a particular performance or display improvement.
