Pimax lists the headset at $1,399, but the announcement does not establish a shipping date or an independently tested comparison with Steam Frame. Its headline specifications include 2,880 × 2,880 pixels per eye, refresh rates up to 120 Hz and optional wireless hardware Pimax says can add less than 2 ms of latency.
What Pimax announced
At its October 6, 2026 Frontier event, Pimax introduced Crystal Pro as a headset for PC VR, with wireless AirLink streaming or a wired DisplayPort connection. The company calls its PC streaming approach Native Foveated Streaming and says the PC renders the full frame. Crystal Pro can also run some applications in standalone mode, but that is a separate use from PC VR rendering.
Pimax’s announcement says shipping dates for both Crystal Pro and the 60G AirLink kit “will be announced at a later date.” The official FAQ describes a $1 reservation and launch discounts. A regional Pimax store listing indicates shipping starts in 2027; that is a regional listing, not a confirmed worldwide shipping date.
Price and what is included
| Option | Announced price | What Pimax says it includes |
|---|---|---|
| Crystal Pro headset | $1,399 | Two ringed controllers, an external battery and a Wi-Fi dongle, according to Pimax’s FAQ. |
| Crystal Pro with third-generation 60G AirLink | $1,899 | Headset and optional 60G AirLink kit. |
| Third-generation 60G AirLink kit, sold separately | $599 | Wireless-link kit described by Pimax as using two room antennas. |
These are prices announced by Pimax in 2026, not verified retail transaction prices. The headset package already lists a Wi-Fi dongle; the more expensive 60G AirLink kit is an optional wireless upgrade.

Wireless, wired and standalone use
Wireless PC VR
Crystal Pro supports built-in Wi-Fi streaming, and Pimax lists a Wi-Fi adapter in the package. The optional 60G AirLink is a separate route for wireless PC VR, available on its own or in the $1,899 bundle. Buyers weighing the upgrade should wait for independent measurements and practical coverage details rather than treating the advertised latency or bandwidth as verified results.
Wired PC VR
Pimax also lists DisplayPort 1.4a, giving users a wired PC connection instead of wireless streaming. The announced material does not quantify how image quality, latency or setup differs between the wired and wireless options.

Standalone applications
The Snapdragon XR2 Gen 1 is listed for standalone mode, and Pimax says the headset can run some applications without a PC. This does not mean that PC VR games are rendered by the headset: Pimax says the PC renders the full frame for PC VR.
Tracking and optional hardware
The headset lists SLAM 2.0 inside-out tracking. Pimax also says Lighthouse tracking is supported through a swappable faceplate. A separate mixed-reality cover is described as adding LiDAR and full-color passthrough. Prescription lenses are described by Pimax as forthcoming or available; the current order status is not established here.

What the Steam Frame comparison does—and does not—establish
The “take on Steam Frame” framing reflects the competitive positioning of the announcement, not a measured head-to-head result. The available information does not establish which headset is clearer, more comfortable, faster, lower-latency or better value.
A meaningful buyer comparison will need confirmed shipping and total costs, real-world wireless and wired performance, comfort assessments, software compatibility, and clarity about what hardware is included versus optional. Crystal Pro’s announced specifications offer useful points of comparison, but they do not answer those questions on their own.
