Resist the urge to build several exhibits at once. Start by learning how a single species’ environment and needs shape a habitat, then add more when you understand how your first one is working. This is a practical way to keep the early decisions legible, not a verified optimal opening strategy.

2. Watch the animals and respond to their behavior
Planet Zoo 2 uses what its game director calls a “living UI”: animal behavior reflects mood. For example, a lethargic-looking tiger may signal that you should reconsider its environment. Treat what you see as a cue to inspect the animal’s needs rather than as decoration or a guaranteed diagnosis.
3. Design habitats for animal welfare and guests
Frontier says habitat design should reflect each species’ natural environment. It also links well-designed habitats to animal welfare and guest experience, as well as zoo rating and income. That makes habitat quality part of running the zoo, not just an aesthetic choice.

4. Make habitat viewing easy to understand
Give guests a clear, safe way to view the animals. Frontier emphasizes immersive spaces that help visitors learn about and connect with animals, and says thoughtful habitats improve guest experience. Keeping paths legible and viewing areas apparent is a sound design principle; exact path mechanics should be learned in the game.
5. Learn aquariums before committing to complex builds
The sequel adds fully aquatic species and customizable aquariums. The PlayStation description distinguishes freshwater and saltwater aquariums, but that distinction is not a substitute for the requirements of a particular species. Check the in-game information before investing in a build; no water parameters or universal aquarium recipe are established here.

6. Build aviaries in stages
Aviaries are customizable spaces for flying birds. Game Director Gareth Hughes says players place walls and support poles to generate a covering. Some aviaries can let guests walk through, but only when it is safe. Learn the released game’s specific build controls and safety conditions rather than assuming every design can be entered by visitors.
7. Expand when welfare and finances support it
Frontier connects well-designed habitats with welfare, guest experience, zoo rating, and income that can fund further expansion. Use those outcomes to judge whether your zoo is ready to grow.
