That first test separates an account or PlayStation Network problem from a console-specific problem. Before submitting anything, also check whether the email address already belongs to a PlayStation account, whether you are creating an adult or child account, and whether the selected country or region is correct.

What to do first
- Use a current email address that you can access immediately.
- Try Create New Account in a browser through Account Management.
- Enter the correct birth date and country or region of residence.
- Complete each screen by selecting Next.
- Open the verification email and follow its instructions.
- If the email was already used, select Trouble Signing In? and use Recover Your Account instead.
Do not submit the form over and over in rapid succession. If an error appears, write down its exact wording or code—including every letter, number, and hyphen—before trying again.

1. Try creating the account in a browser
PlayStation supports creating an account in a web browser before setting up a PS5. In Account Management, select Create New Account, enter your information and preferences, select Next on each screen, and then verify your email address.
This is usually the most useful first step when the console registration page is blank, stuck loading, or displays a vague failure. If browser registration succeeds but the console still refuses to sign in, the account identity is probably valid and the remaining issue is more likely to involve the console, its network connection, system software, or the PlayStation service connection.
Use an email address that is spelled correctly and that you can access. Avoid using a temporary address that may disappear before you need account recovery. If the browser form itself fails, check the official service status and error-code guidance before assuming the console is defective.
2. Check whether the email already has an account
A PlayStation sign-in ID is a unique email address used for account communication and verification. If you have used that address with PlayStation before, you may be trying to register a second account when you actually need to sign in or recover the existing one.
Use PlayStation’s account-recovery instructions. The usual path is:
Account Management > Trouble Signing In? > Recover Your Account
PlayStation can send a secure recovery link to the account’s email address. If you still have access to that inbox, recovery is preferable to creating another account. Multiple accounts can split purchases, subscriptions, saved progress, friends, trophies, and family-management settings, so creating extra accounts is not a good workaround for a registration error.

3. Separate registration failure from email-verification failure
These are different problems:
- The form will not submit: the account may not have been created yet. Check the displayed error, entered information, service status, and connection.
- The form submitted but no verification email arrived: the account may exist, but email verification is still pending.
- The verification link does not work: confirm that you are using the newest message and that the address was entered correctly.
Verification or recovery messages can take a few minutes. Check the inbox’s spam, junk, promotions, and filtered folders, and search for PlayStation. Confirm that the email address used during registration is the one you are checking. Do not repeatedly create new accounts while waiting for a message, because that can make it harder to tell which account is active.
4. Use the correct adult or child account process
A child should not create an unsupervised adult account to bypass age or family restrictions. PlayStation requires an adult account first; the adult account becomes the family manager and creates the child account with the appropriate parental controls.
PlayStation documents the family process through PlayStation family account setup, Account Management, the PlayStation Family app, and family-management controls on the console.

Child and family setup is handled through:
Settings > Parental Controls/Family Management > Family Management
Use the child’s real birth date and the family’s actual information. Entering an adult’s birth date for a child can produce an account with the wrong age classification and may create problems with parental controls, services, or later account recovery.

5. Check the country or region before submitting
Pay particular attention to the country or region field. PlayStation’s terms require accurate and complete account information, and the country or region selected during account creation cannot be changed afterward. The account should reflect the user’s actual country or region of residence. See PlayStation’s Terms of Service for the relevant account requirements.
A wrong region can cause more than an initial registration error. It can create later problems with payment methods, vouchers, store content, and regional availability. Do not use a VPN, a false address, or a false region as a registration workaround. Do not submit the form until this choice is correct.
6. Check PlayStation’s service status
Registration depends on PlayStation’s online account systems, so your home internet can be working normally while account creation is unavailable. Open the official PlayStation service-status page and look specifically at Account management.
Status information changes, so an old report or a previous status snapshot cannot prove that services are available now. If Account management is down, under maintenance, or reporting a problem, wait for the service to recover instead of repeatedly submitting the registration form. Social-media reports can be useful clues, but the official status page and the exact error code are better evidence.
7. Use the exact error code as a decision tree
Open the official PlayStation error-code directory and match the entire code. Similar-looking codes can have different causes.

These examples are not a substitute for the full directory. Preserve the code exactly; searching for the code is more useful than searching only for “PlayStation can’t create account.”
8. Check the console and network after the account path is clear
Only move to console troubleshooting after you have checked the account, email, age, region, service status, and error code. If browser signup works but console signup does not, try these steps in order:

- Confirm that the console is connected to the internet and can access other online features.
- Restart the console once.
- Restart the modem or router once, then wait for the connection to return.
- If possible, try a wired Ethernet connection or a different network, such as a trusted mobile hotspot.
- Install any pending PS5 or PS4 system-software update.
- Retry the account flow without repeatedly submitting it.
PlayStation’s connectivity support and Repairs tools provide further guidance. A new router, different DNS settings, opened router ports, clearing a cache, or a factory reset is not a universal fix for account registration. Do not erase the console or change advanced network settings unless the exact error code or a qualified support instruction justifies it.

Contact PlayStation Support when the error directory identifies a server-side registration problem, browser and console registration both fail after service status is normal, you cannot access the account email, you suspect unauthorized account changes, or the account may be restricted or suspended. - whether the failure happened in a browser, on PS5, on PS4, or in all three places;
- the console model and system-software status;
- the country or region selected;
- whether the email address may already have a PlayStation account;
- whether the verification email arrived;

- what connection test or alternate network you tried.

- PlayStation Plus: a subscription is not required to create or verify an account.
- A PlayStation Network gift card: funding the wallet does not create or repair an account.

- A VPN: it is not an appropriate solution for a region or registration restriction.
- A factory reset, cache clearing, DNS change, or router-port change: none is a guaranteed solution, and some can create new problems or erase local data.
