The GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16GB is typically about 15% to 20% faster than the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB in gaming, but the result varies substantially by game, resolution, and graphics settings. Some 1440p tests show gains of only around 3% to 7%; others reach the low or mid-20s. At 4K, the average advantage can approach 20%, although neither card is a consistently strong native-4K ray-tracing GPU.
That makes the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB a sensible choice for a new gaming PC when its current price is competitive. It is usually a poor automatic upgrade for someone who already owns an RTX 4060 Ti 16GB.

Comparing the 5060 Ti 16GB with the 4060 Ti 8GB can make the newer card look better than its raw shader performance warrants. In a game that exceeds 8GB of usable VRAM, the older card may suffer from texture-quality compromises, stutter, or severe performance degradation. That is still a real advantage for the 16GB 5060 Ti, but it is a capacity advantage rather than proof that the GPU cores are twice as fast.
The RTX 4060 Ti 16GB launched at $499, while the RTX 5060 Ti family launched in April 2025 from $379, with the 16GB version commonly listed at a $429–$430 launch MSRP. Those are historical launch prices, not a promise about current retail pricing. Check present-day stock and pricing before deciding, because graphics-card availability can change the value calculation quickly. Nvidia’s RTX 5060 family specifications and RTX 4060 Ti launch information provide the official product context.

1440p benchmark results: the most relevant comparison
For this class of GPU, 1440p is generally more informative than either very light 1080p testing or unrealistic native-4K expectations. It puts more pressure on the graphics card while still producing usable frame rates in a broad range of games.

TechSpot’s 16-game suite found the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB about 15% faster overall than the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB. Individual results varied considerably:
- Dragon Age: The Veilguard: approximately 6% faster.
- Star Wars Outlaws: approximately 6% faster.
- Starfield: approximately 6% faster.
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 6: approximately 3% faster.
- Hogwarts Legacy: approximately 20% faster.
- The Last of Us Part I: approximately 21% faster.
- God of War Ragnarök: approximately 17% faster.
GamersNexus reported a broader 13%–27% advantage at 1440p across its title-level testing. Its examples included roughly 23% in Dying Light 2 at 1440p and a 19% improvement in Dragon’s Dogma 2 at 1080p. The difference between those figures and TechSpot’s average is expected: a benchmark average depends heavily on the games selected and the exact graphics settings.
The practical result is not “20% more FPS in every game.” A better expectation is that a game running at 60 frames per second on the RTX 4060 Ti may run around 69–72 FPS on the 5060 Ti in a typical case, while CPU-limited or unusually light workloads may show little improvement. A title with a serious memory or bandwidth bottleneck can improve more.
4K performance and memory bandwidth
TechSpot measured an approximately 20% overall advantage for the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB at 4K. Its individual 4K results ranged from around 5% faster in Hogwarts Legacy to approximately 27% faster in God of War Ragnarök.

The larger average at 4K is consistent with the newer card’s substantially higher memory bandwidth. Tom’s Hardware attributed much of the gaming improvement to roughly 56% more memory bandwidth, alongside changes to the GPU architecture and core configuration. At higher resolutions and settings, moving data to and from VRAM can become more important, so the bandwidth difference may be more visible than it is in a lightly loaded 1080p game.
That is a useful trend, not a universal rule. A game can remain limited by its CPU, engine, shader workload, or ray-tracing performance even at high resolution. Also, a roughly 20% uplift does not transform a 40-FPS native-4K experience into a guaranteed 60-FPS experience. Settings reductions and upscaling are still part of the realistic 4K experience on both cards.
Ray tracing: faster, but not uniformly
The RTX 5060 Ti 16GB improves ray-tracing performance, but its advantage is less consistent than a single headline number suggests. TechSpot recorded:
- Metro Exodus Enhanced: approximately 25% faster at 1440p.
- Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered: approximately 22% faster.
- Cyberpunk 2077: approximately 7% faster with upscaling.
- Alan Wake II: effectively tied at 1440p with upscaling.
This is why buyers should evaluate the specific games they play. The newer Blackwell GPU includes fifth-generation Tensor Cores and fourth-generation RT Cores, but new hardware does not guarantee the same percentage improvement in every ray-traced workload. Neither card should be presented as a consistently capable native-4K ray-tracing solution.
DLSS and Frame Generation are not the same as raw GPU performance
Benchmark labels matter. Native raster results compare conventionally rendered frames. Ray-tracing results measure a different workload. DLSS upscaling changes how the image is rendered, and Frame Generation creates additional displayed frames using AI-assisted processing.
A benchmark that includes DLSS and Frame Generation can be useful for judging the complete gaming experience, but it should not be described as a direct increase in traditionally rendered frames. For an honest RTX 5060 Ti-versus-RTX 4060 Ti comparison, separate results should identify:
- Native or equivalent-resolution raster performance.
- Ray tracing with clearly stated upscaling settings.
- DLSS-only results.
- Frame Generation results, including whether the reported number is generated-frame output or the underlying rendered-frame rate.
The RTX 5060 Ti’s newer AI and ray-tracing hardware may make its feature-supported experience more attractive, but feature gains and raw raster gains answer different questions.

What changed inside the RTX 5060 Ti?
Nvidia lists the RTX 5060 Ti with 4,608 CUDA cores, a 2.57 GHz boost clock, and either 8GB or 16GB of GDDR7. It is a Blackwell-generation GPU with fifth-generation Tensor Cores and fourth-generation RT Cores.
The RTX 4060 Ti is an Ada Lovelace card offered with 8GB or 16GB of GDDR6. The 16GB model retained the same core specifications as the 8GB version, with the extra memory intended to address capacity limitations rather than create a large compute increase by itself.
The 5060 Ti’s GDDR7 subsystem provides both newer memory technology and much more bandwidth. That helps explain why its advantage can grow in some high-resolution or demanding-texture workloads. The 16GB capacity is equally important for longevity: it can reduce the chance of running into VRAM limits in modern games, high-resolution texture packs, creator applications, and some local AI workloads.
Capacity should not be confused with automatic performance. If a workload fits comfortably within both cards’ 16GB VRAM, the 5060 Ti’s speed comes primarily from its newer architecture, memory subsystem, and related hardware—not from having more memory.
Productivity, rendering, and AI performance
The RTX 5060 Ti is not only a gaming upgrade. In Tom’s Hardware’s direct comparison, it was faster in Blender by:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed

- Monster: 13.6%.
- Junkshop: 28.8%.
- Classroom: 17.7%.
The geometric-mean advantage across those three Blender tests was 19.9%. Tom’s Hardware also reported approximately 40% more tokens per second and 26.2% lower first-token latency in its MLPerf Client 0.5 measurements. Its summary placed the 5060 Ti roughly 20% ahead in selected AI and 3D-rendering workloads and about 17% ahead in a selection of professional applications.
These results are promising for users who render in supported applications or run local AI software, but they are workload-specific. Software version, model size, precision mode, API, driver, and VRAM requirements can all change the result. Do not treat the Blender or MLPerf figures as a guarantee of a 20% improvement in every creator application.

Power consumption and card considerations
The RTX 5060 Ti has a higher listed TGP than the RTX 4060 Ti, but Tom’s Hardware measured slightly lower power use in its tested gaming workloads: approximately 5W lower at 1440p Ultra and 8–9W lower at 1080p. At 4K, the 5060 Ti used about 1W more in that test setup.
Those measurements apply to the tested partner cards and platform. Board design, factory overclock, power limits, cooling, and the individual workload can change results. Compare the specific model’s cooler, dimensions, power connector, warranty, and noise behavior rather than assuming every RTX 5060 Ti performs identically.

The RTX 5060 Ti 16GB had a more favorable launch position than the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB: approximately $429–$430 versus the older card’s $499 launch price. That combination of a lower nominal price and roughly 15%–20% more performance produced a meaningful performance-per-dollar improvement in launch analysis.
However, the correct buying calculation is based on the price available now. A discounted RTX 4060 Ti 16GB, a used card with a good warranty, or a faster card in the next product tier can change the recommendation. Do not pay a premium for a particular factory-overclocked 5060 Ti unless its cooler, acoustics, size, or warranty justify it; the GPU’s underlying performance class remains broadly similar.
Should you buy the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB?
Buy it for a new gaming PC when:
- You want a capable 1440p card and the 16GB model is priced near its intended market position.
- You play modern games with high texture settings and want more VRAM headroom than an 8GB card provides.
- You use Blender, supported AI applications, or other GPU-accelerated software that benefits from the newer hardware.
- Your alternative is an RTX 4060 Ti 16GB at a similar or higher current price.
Keep the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB when:
- You already own it and it delivers acceptable frame rates in the games you play.
- You are expecting a dramatic upgrade rather than a typical 15%–20% improvement.
- Your main limitation is a CPU bottleneck, game-engine problem, or monitor refresh rate rather than GPU performance.
- The 5060 Ti would require a substantial out-of-pocket payment after selling the older card.
For an existing owner, the upgrade becomes more reasonable if you need better 1440p minimums, frequently encounter VRAM or bandwidth limits, or can make the switch at a particularly favorable net cost. Otherwise, Tom’s Hardware’s conclusion is the sensible one: RTX 4060 Ti owners generally should not rush to replace a working card.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is the 16GB model worth choosing over the 8GB model?
The 16GB version is the safer long-term choice for modern games, high-resolution textures, and GPU applications that can exceed 8GB. It also prevents a capacity comparison from becoming the dominant factor when evaluating the 5060 Ti against an 8GB RTX 4060 Ti.
It does not provide a fixed extra percentage of performance when both versions have enough VRAM for the same workload. Choose the 16GB card for capacity headroom and fewer potential VRAM-related compromises—not because every game will run 20% faster.

Installation and troubleshooting checklist
- Confirm that your power supply meets the specific partner card’s requirements and that the required power cable is fully seated.
- Remove the old graphics driver using a clean-install process if you are changing cards or experiencing persistent conflicts.
- Install the current Nvidia driver from Nvidia’s official support channels before testing performance.
- Install motherboard chipset and BIOS updates when the system has device-detection, PCIe, or stability problems.
- Connect the monitor to the graphics card rather than the motherboard’s video output.
- Run the same game, resolution, quality preset, upscaling mode, and frame-generation setting when comparing results.
- Watch temperatures, clock speeds, frame-time graphs, and VRAM usage—not just the average FPS counter.
For a new build, a GPU anti-sag bracket can be a sensible optional support accessory for a large partner card, while a suitable DisplayPort cable for gaming monitor can help if your monitor requires a particular refresh-rate or resolution standard. Neither accessory increases the GPU’s benchmark performance.
Small installation extras
- GPU anti-sag bracket: useful when the installed card visibly sags or places strain on the slot; choose one that fits your case and does not obstruct fans.
- DisplayPort cable for gaming monitor: check the cable and monitor specifications if you are targeting high refresh rates, HDR, or a resolution above 1080p.
How to interpret these benchmarks for your own PC
Start with the game and resolution that matter to you. If the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB already reaches your monitor’s refresh target, a 15%–20% uplift may be difficult to notice without a higher-refresh display or more demanding settings. If it falls below the target, the 5060 Ti may provide a useful improvement—but check whether the frame rate is GPU-limited.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFor example, moving from 50 FPS to 60 FPS can materially improve playability, while moving from 140 FPS to 168 FPS may matter only to a high-refresh competitive player. Conversely, a game that is CPU-limited at 1080p may show almost no improvement even though the 5060 Ti is substantially faster in a GPU-limited 1440p test.
Use the published averages as planning guidance, not as a promise. Game patches, drivers, CPU model, system memory, PCIe generation, graphics settings, cooling, and the exact card model can all affect the result.

The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Is the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB good for 4K gaming?
It can run selected games at 4K with appropriate settings and upscaling, but it is not a consistently strong native-4K ray-tracing card. The average improvement over the RTX 4060 Ti can approach 20% at 4K, but frame rates remain highly game-dependent.
Does 16GB VRAM make the RTX 5060 Ti automatically faster?
No. The extra capacity mainly prevents VRAM-related slowdowns and allows higher texture settings in demanding workloads. When both cards have enough VRAM, performance comes from the newer GPU architecture, memory bandwidth, and other hardware changes.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: The RTX 5060 Ti 16GB is the better buy for a new 1440p-oriented gaming PC when current pricing is reasonable, delivering a typical 15%–20% improvement over the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB and offering more memory bandwidth. It is not a compelling automatic upgrade for existing RTX 4060 Ti owners, and neither card should be sold as a reliable native-4K ray-tracing solution.
