Its defining advantage is unusually deep customization, plus replaceable stick modules; the trade-offs are a premium purchase and shorter battery life than the standard DualSense. Sony’s launch price was $199.99 in the US in October 2022, but that is a historical retail price, not a current quote.
What makes the DualSense Edge different?
The Edge keeps the familiar DualSense format and supported features such as haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, while adding controls for tailoring how the pad works. Sony says those immersive features depend on game support. Its inner grips are slip-resistant, and the bundled back buttons can be assigned to other button inputs.
- Remap buttons, including the back-button inputs.
- Adjust stick sensitivity and stick dead zones.
- Set trigger dead zones.
- Adjust vibration settings.
- Save control profiles and switch between them without leaving a game.
These options are most useful when you want different layouts or sensitivities for different games, or want frequently used inputs available on the back of the controller. They do not establish that the controller will improve performance for every player.
Is the DualSense Edge worth it?
It can be, if you expect to use its customization often. Players who value back-button assignments, per-game profiles, or fine control over stick and trigger response have concrete reasons to choose it over a standard controller. Replaceable stick modules may also matter if a module fails.

- Ultra Customizable Controls
- Mappable Back Buttons
- DualSense Wireless Controller Features Built In
- Replaceable Stick Modules and Caps
If you mainly want a conventional PS5 controller and do not expect to change settings or use the back controls, the Edge’s distinctive features may not justify its premium. Its value depends on the current price and bundle where you shop; Sony’s October 2022 US launch RRP was $199.99, and that historical figure should not be treated as today’s price.
How long does the DualSense Edge battery last?
Sony has described the Edge’s operating time as “moderately shorter” than the original DualSense, attributing the difference to the additional features in a similar form factor. Sony also points to the included longer braided USB cable as an option for players who prefer a wired connection and want to preserve battery life. This is Sony’s explanation, not a measured runtime.

| Source and test | Reported battery observation |
|---|---|
| Tom’s Hardware, January 29, 2023: mixed-game test using default settings, rumble and haptics on, and a bright controller light | About five hours in that reviewer’s test |
| TechRadar, January 23, 2023: reviewer’s range of games | Ran flat after about seven hours; the review advised expecting roughly six to eight hours, depending on play |
These are reviewer observations under different conditions, not a standardized comparison or a guaranteed runtime. Treat them as an indication that frequent charging or wired play may be part of owning the Edge.
Can you replace the DualSense Edge sticks?
Yes. Sony’s support guidance explains how to replace a stick module if it stops working properly or otherwise needs replacement. Modules are sold separately, and Sony says the left and right modules can be attached to either side. This gives owners a replacement option; it does not guarantee that stick problems will never occur or establish a lower lifetime cost.

For a fair decision against a standard DualSense or another premium controller, compare the current price and included accessories, whether you will use programmable back controls and profile switching, the available stick and trigger tuning, stick-module replacement options, and battery performance under comparable test conditions. Also consider whether you want PlayStation’s haptics and adaptive triggers in games that support them. The available battery estimates above come from different reviewer tests, so they do not settle a direct endurance comparison.
