The PlayStation Plus Monthly Games for May 2025 were Ark: Survival Ascended, Balatro, and Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun. Subscribers could claim them from May 6 through June 2, 2025. Sony also announced a separate Extra and Premium Game Catalog update, available starting May 20. These were subscription benefits, not games available free without a membership.

Sony’s announcement also noted that April’s Monthly Games—RoboCop: Rogue City, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth – Hacker’s Memory—were claimable only through May 5. The May games replaced that monthly selection for the next claim period. Sony’s April 30 announcement has the original platform and date details.
May Extra and Premium Game Catalog additions
The Game Catalog is a different PlayStation Plus benefit from the Monthly Games. Sony announced this selection on May 14 and said the listed games would be available to play starting May 20, 2025. The Extra/Premium catalog list was:
#1 Best Overall
- BECOME A FEARSOME PIRATE- Strike fear in your foes as you board and sink enemy vessels as Edward Kenway, captain of the Jackdaw. Whether blending into crowds or leading daring assaults, switch between silent takedowns and fierce brawls as you effortlessly wield swords, pistols, and the Hidden Blade. With a cast of historical pirate legends at your side, defy empires amidst the age-old conflict opposing Assassins and Templars.
- A CLASSIC REBUILT FOR AN ENHANCED EXPERIENCE- Combat has been rebuilt for more dynamic encounters, emphasizing parries and takedowns, while stealth and parkour have been improved for smoother escapes and assassinations. Continuously upgrade the Jackdaw to face powerful enemy ships with enhanced naval mechanics featuring new alternate fire modes. Quality-of-life additions also address previous pain points, ensuring your experience is improved.
- THE CARIBBEAN LIKE NEVER BEFORE- Whether you’re sailing the open seas or journeying across untamed lands, discover a seamless open world built with the latest Anvil engine. Take in sweeping vistas as you brave stormy waters, dive into underwater shipwrecks, or push through dense tropical jungles. Enhanced by features such as Dolby Atmos and ray tracing, every scene feels more immersive, bringing the world’s beauty to life.
- EXPANDING EDWARD’S ADVENTURE- Building on top of the original story, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced introduces exclusive new content. Familiar faces will return, with new storylines dedicated to fan-favorite characters such as Blackbeard and Stede Bonnet. Unexpected allies will also cross your path, as three officers join you on your journey as part of the main narrative. More surprises await, such as new sea shanties, pets, a photo mode, and more.

Battle Engine Aquila was a separate addition listed in the Premium section, for PS4 and PS5. It should not be counted as one of the Extra/Premium catalog titles available to both tiers. Catalog availability can vary by region, so the local PlayStation Store is the appropriate place to confirm what is offered. See Sony’s May 14 Game Catalog announcement.
Were there May 2025 PS Plus predictions, rumors, or leaks?
The confirmed lineup is established by Sony’s dated announcements. The available official announcements do not verify a particular pre-reveal leak or establish the provenance of any prediction. A title later appearing in the lineup does not, by itself, prove that an earlier rumor came from a genuine leak. Treat unsourced pre-announcement lists as speculation unless they can be tied to a reliable, dated original report.

What late-May Days of Play announcements meant
Sony’s May 27 Days of Play announcement covered June Monthly Games and bonus Game Catalog and Classics Catalog content. Sony said the bonus catalog additions were in addition to the regular June Game Catalog drop, not a replacement for May’s selection. The same announcement also included trials and hardware promotions; those promotions were not part of the May Monthly Games list. Availability depended on region, country, timing, and plan. Sony’s Days of Play announcement provides that context.

“Free games” was shorthand for games included with a paid PlayStation Plus membership. The Monthly Games were offered to subscribers during a limited claim window; the Extra and Premium titles belonged to the Game Catalog benefit and were governed by their applicable membership tiers and availability. Both May 2025 offer periods have ended, so these dates describe the historical lineup rather than a current claim opportunity.
