What the pre-announcement leak said
Before Sony’s announcement, a Reddit thread discussed a Dealabs report attributed to billbil-kun that named Need for Speed Unbound as January’s headliner. Sony’s later announcement confirmed that title as part of the Monthly Games lineup. The thread documents discussion of the report; it is not independent proof of how the report was obtained or of the leaker’s broader track record. See the Reddit discussion of the reported leak.

What players predicted—and what they did not know
Community prediction threads included guesses such as Resident Evil Village and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. Those were user predictions, not confirmations of the Monthly Games. The Essential prediction discussion is available in this January Essential predictions thread.
The titles later appearing in Sony’s Extra and Premium Game Catalog announcement can make earlier guesses look prescient, but that does not turn the guesses into evidence of a leak. Sony published a separate catalog announcement for the January additions.

Extra and Premium had a separate January update
Sony said its January Game Catalog lineup would be available starting January 20, 2026. Named additions included Resident Evil Village (PS5, PS4), Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth (PS5, PS4), Expeditions: A MudRunner Game (PS5, PS4), A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead (PS5) and Darkest Dungeon II (PS5, PS4). Ridge Racer was also noted as joining PlayStation Plus Premium. Sony’s full announcement is on the January Game Catalog post.
These catalog additions were distinct from the three Monthly Games: Sony announced them separately, with a different start date and tier eligibility. The PlayStation.Blog announcement also cautions that PS5 games from a member’s library available for streaming may vary over time and by region or country.
