PlayStation Plus Premium is built around PlayStation’s Game Catalog, Classics Catalog, game trials and cloud streaming. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate focuses on a larger cross-device library, day-one releases and bundled EA Play, Fortnite Crew and Ubisoft+ Classics benefits. Neither service permanently grants ownership of every listed game, and the better choice depends on your console, PC access, preferred games and streaming needs.

What PlayStation Plus Premium includes
All lower-tier PlayStation Plus benefits
Premium includes the benefits Sony lists for the lower PlayStation Plus tiers:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- Monthly games
- Online multiplayer for supported games
- Cloud storage for saved data
- Share Play
- Exclusive discounts
- Exclusive in-game content
Monthly games require an active membership to play. Sony can replace or remove catalog titles, so downloading a game does not turn it into a permanent purchase.

Game Catalog
The Game Catalog is Premium’s principal current-game library. Sony describes it as hundreds of games, but the exact count and lineup change by time, region and account. Members can download eligible titles or stream them where streaming is supported.
There is no blanket statement that every new PlayStation release enters Premium on its launch day. A particular title may be added later, remain for a limited period or never be included. If a specific game is the reason you are considering Premium, search the live PlayStation catalog and verify its end date or access conditions before subscribing.
Classics Catalog
Premium adds a Classics Catalog for selected games from earlier PlayStation generations. This is the clearest reason to choose Premium over a plan that focuses mainly on current releases. The catalog is curated rather than a promise that every historical PlayStation title is available.

PS3 Classics are streaming-only. They cannot be downloaded as native PS3 games, so your experience depends on the supported streaming service, your location and your connection quality.
Game trials
Premium members receive limited-time trials for selected games. A trial lets you test a supported title for the period Sony specifies before deciding whether to buy it. Trials are not universal, and their durations and eligible games can change.
Cloud streaming
Sony lists cloud streaming for Premium on PS4 and PS5 consoles and on PC. Selected games can also stream to PS5 and PlayStation Portal where the feature is supported. Not every catalog or purchased game is streamable.
Sony’s stated connection requirements are:
- 5 Mbps minimum: the minimum listed connection for cloud streaming.
- 15 Mbps: Sony’s stated requirement for 1080p streaming.
Those figures describe bandwidth, not guaranteed image quality or latency. Wi-Fi congestion, distance from the service and local network load can still affect input response. Sony also notes that some games cannot be streamed, so check the individual title page rather than assuming that a Premium game supports every access method.

- XBOX GIFT CARD: Buy full digital game downloads, game add-ons, in-game currency, memberships, devices, apps, movies, TV shows, and more.
- DIGITAL GAMES: Choose from hundreds of games, from AAA to indie options. Start playing the moment your most anticipated game is available when you pre-order and pre-download it.
- GAME AD-ONS: Extend the experience of your favorite games with add-ons and in-game currency.
- MOVIES & TV SHOWS: Rent or buy new and popular movies and TV shows from a massive library.
- PERFECT GIFT: Great as a gift for a friend or yourself. Xbox Gift Cards are easy to use, never expire, and give the freedom to pick the gift they want. Enjoy more ways to play without a credit card attached to your Microsoft account.
Ubisoft+ Classics and Sony Pictures Catalog
Premium lists Ubisoft+ Classics and access to the Sony Pictures Catalog among its additional benefits. The exact selection, availability and terms can vary by country. Treat these as included catalog access under the Premium membership, not as ownership of every film or game associated with either catalog.
PlayStation Premium pricing in the United States
| Billing period | Listed US price | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| One month | $19.99 | Recurring subscription until canceled. |
| Three months | $54.99 | US price shown on Sony’s membership page; regional pricing may differ. |
| 12 months | $159.99 | US annual price shown on Sony’s membership page; promotions or account offers can change the amount. |
The annual option works out to about $13.33 per month when spread across 12 months, but that calculation does not change the fact that it is billed as a 12-month term. Sony says the subscription continues until canceled.
What Xbox Game Pass Ultimate includes
A cross-device library of 500-plus games
Xbox describes Ultimate as including more than 500 games across Xbox consoles, PC and supported devices. That is a company-reported catalog description, not an independently audited count. The lineup changes as games are added and removed, and availability can differ by region, platform and plan.
Some games support console play, PC play, cloud play or a combination of those options. A title appearing in the overall Game Pass library does not guarantee that it is downloadable on every device you own.

New games on day one
Ultimate lists new games on day one, which is its strongest contrast with Premium. The phrase does not mean every game released for Xbox, PC or a partner platform is included. Plan terms contain exceptions, and individual titles can leave the service later.
For a day-one release you care about, verify the supported platform, region and edition. A game may be available on console but not PC, or through cloud play without a local download.
Xbox console and PC access
Ultimate is designed for people who use more than one Microsoft gaming platform. The listed benefits cover Xbox console and PC, with cloud gaming extending access to supported devices. The practical value is highest if you regularly move between an Xbox and a Windows PC, because one membership can cover both libraries where a title supports both platforms.
Rank #3
Online console multiplayer
Ultimate includes online console multiplayer for games that require a subscription. Xbox separately states that multiplayer for free-to-play games is open to every Xbox player, so Ultimate is not required merely to play a free-to-play multiplayer title online.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesEA Play
EA Play is listed as an Ultimate benefit. It provides access to the EA Play offerings covered by the current plan and region, subject to EA and Xbox terms. The inclusion does not mean every EA release is permanently available or that every platform receives identical access.
Fortnite Crew, Ubisoft+ Classics and in-game benefits
Ultimate lists Fortnite Crew, Ubisoft+ Classics and additional in-game benefits. These are bundled partner and game benefits rather than unrestricted ownership. Eligibility, included content, supported platforms and regional availability can change, so review the current terms if one of these extras is central to your decision.
Rewards, discounts and cloud gaming
Xbox lists rewards and discounts alongside the library and partner benefits. Cloud gaming requires an eligible Game Pass subscription, a supported device and regional service availability. Xbox’s comparison information also says that cloud-playable games outside the Game Pass library are sold separately.
How the libraries differ in practice
| Use case | More relevant strength | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| You want older PlayStation generations | Premium’s Classics Catalog. | Whether the exact classic is included and whether it is download-enabled or streaming-only. |
| You want to test a game before buying | Premium’s selected game trials. | Trial length, eligible edition and expiration date. |
| You want first-party or listed new releases at launch | Ultimate’s day-one listing. | Exceptions, platform version and how long the game is expected to remain. |
| You use Xbox and Windows PC | Ultimate’s console-and-PC coverage. | Whether each desired game supports both platforms and cross-save or cross-play. |
| You mostly play free-to-play multiplayer | Neither subscription is automatically necessary for online access. | Whether the game is genuinely free-to-play and whether it has separate premium content. |
| You want cloud play | Either can fit, depending on device and region. | Supported hardware, title eligibility, connection quality and any applicable usage limits. |
Neither service is permanent game ownership
Both memberships provide access only while the relevant conditions remain true.
- Sony says catalog games can have end dates, and an active membership is required for monthly games.
- Xbox says access ends when the membership expires or when a title leaves the library.
- A downloaded file does not preserve access after removal or cancellation.
- Saved data, licenses and cloud-play eligibility can follow different rules from the catalog listing.
Before starting a long game, check its listing for an announced removal date. If you expect to keep playing after that date, buying the game may be more reliable than depending on the subscription.
Cloud gaming: current requirements and the November 2026 change
PlayStation’s current stated requirements
Premium cloud streaming requires at least 5 Mbps according to Sony, with 15 Mbps listed for 1080p. Streaming support varies by game and device, and PS3 Classics are streaming-only. A wired connection or strong, uncongested Wi-Fi can help, but Sony’s bandwidth figures should be treated as minimum requirements rather than performance guarantees.

- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.

Xbox’s announced monthly allowances
On September 3, 2026, Team Xbox announced that cloud gaming included with Game Pass will change beginning in November 2026. The announcement specifies:
| Plan | Announced monthly cloud allowance | Status on October 13, 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Ultimate | 15 hours | Scheduled to begin in November 2026; not yet an active cap on the date of this article. |
| Premium | 10 hours | Scheduled to begin in November 2026. |
| Essential | 5 hours | Scheduled to begin in November 2026. |
Xbox said additional playtime could be purchased, but pricing, availability and further market details had not yet been provided in the announcement. Do not budget for a particular top-up price until Xbox publishes those terms.

For PlayStation Plus Premium
- Open the PlayStation Store or the PlayStation Plus section on your console or web account.
- Search for the exact game and select its product page.
- Look for the Premium Game Catalog, Classics Catalog or trial label.
- Check whether the page offers download, streaming or both. A PS3 Classic will be streaming-only.
- Read any end-date or regional notice before starting a long playthrough.
For Xbox Game Pass Ultimate
- Open the Game Pass catalog on your Xbox console, Xbox app or supported device.
- Filter by console, PC or cloud to match the hardware you will use.
- Open the individual game page and confirm that Ultimate includes the edition you need.
- Check whether the title is marked as a day-one release, a catalog addition or a departing game.
- For cloud play, confirm that your device, region and controller meet Xbox’s requirements.
This five-minute check is more dependable than choosing from a headline catalog count. Both companies change their libraries over time.
Which subscription fits which player?
Choose Premium when PlayStation-specific features matter most
- You own a PS4 or PS5 and want online multiplayer plus a broad downloadable catalog.
- You specifically want older PlayStation games in the Classics Catalog.
- You value limited-time trials before buying selected games.
- You want Sony’s console-and-PC streaming options and have a compatible connection.
- The Sony Pictures Catalog or Ubisoft+ Classics is useful in your region.
Choose Ultimate when breadth across Xbox and PC is the priority
- You use an Xbox, a Windows PC or both.
- Day-one access to listed new games is more important than a dedicated classics collection.
- EA Play, Fortnite Crew, Ubisoft+ Classics or in-game benefits have real value for you.
- You want one subscription covering console multiplayer and a large cross-device catalog.
- You plan to use cloud gaming on supported hardware and accept the announced November 2026 allowance changes.
Consider buying games instead of subscribing
A subscription is not automatically cheaper. If you play one or two games for years, buying them can cost less than maintaining a recurring membership. Subscription value improves when you regularly sample different games, use the included partner benefits or play enough titles during the period to exceed the fee you would otherwise pay.
Price and value: what can be compared now
Sony’s US Premium prices are clearly listed as $19.99 per month, $54.99 every three months and $159.99 per year. The Xbox US product information available on October 13, 2026 described Ultimate’s benefits but did not show a standard price that can be safely compared here. Xbox pricing can also vary by region, promotion and account status.
Use the live checkout for your country when making a value calculation. Compare the same billing period, include sales tax where applicable, and treat promotional pricing separately from the recurring rate. Do not use an old Xbox announcement or a third-party figure as a current standard price.
Common pitfalls and fixes
Assuming every catalog game is permanent
Problem: You start a game that is later removed. Fix: Check the title page for a removal notice and buy the game if you need guaranteed long-term access.
Best Value
Confusing download access with ownership
Problem: A downloaded game stops launching after cancellation or removal. Fix: Keep the membership active or purchase the title separately.
Expecting every new release on Premium
Problem: You subscribe expecting all PlayStation releases on launch day. Fix: Premium has no general all-new-releases promise in the listed benefits; verify each title individually.
Assuming a game works on every platform
Problem: A game appears in the overall library but is unavailable on your console, PC or cloud device. Fix: Filter the catalog by the platform and access method you actually use.
Exceeding streaming limits or requirements
Problem: Streaming quality is poor or a planned session falls outside the service’s conditions. Fix: Test your connection, confirm title eligibility and check the current cloud policy. Xbox’s announced November 2026 hour allowances are not active as of October 13, 2026, and Xbox had not yet published top-up pricing.
Forgetting free-to-play multiplayer rules
Problem: You buy Ultimate solely to play a free-to-play multiplayer game online. Fix: Xbox says free-to-play multiplayer is open to every Xbox player; confirm the game’s classification before subscribing.
Bottom line
Premium is the more distinctive option for PlayStation owners who want Classics, game trials and Sony’s streaming ecosystem alongside a changing game catalog. Ultimate is the more natural fit for Xbox-and-PC players who prioritize a 500-plus-game cross-device library, listed day-one releases and bundled EA Play, Fortnite Crew and Ubisoft+ Classics benefits. Check the live catalog, your region’s price and the exact platform support for the games you care about before committing.
