Novus Inceptio is back in development, but its creator is not promising a finished game or a release schedule. The October 2026 update is reported to expand the survival RPG’s map from 9 km² to 64 km² and rebuild combat. Developer Martin Markus Mastný says he has resumed work part-time; co-op is planned, not confirmed as playable.
What is Novus Inceptio?
Novus Inceptio is a survival RPG and sandbox from McMagic Productions, which Steam lists as both developer and publisher. It entered Early Access on October 5, 2015. Steam describes a game built around exploration, construction, and crafting, and lists single-player as a feature. Steam store page
Steam’s store page also carries its standing Early Access notice: the game may contain flaws and may change as development continues. That is the platform’s general warning for the Early Access listing, not an independent assessment of the October 2026 update.
Is Novus Inceptio back in development?
Yes. In a report and interview published October 6, 2026, PC Gamer described the update as the game’s first since 2018 and quoted Mastný saying, “Yes, Novus is back in development.” He added, “Not full time, but the energy and the will to finish the project are back.” PC Gamer’s report and interview

Why development stopped
Mastný told PC Gamer that he worked full-time on the game from early 2016 through 2019 while also handling community support, and that the workload led to burnout. He said he is trying to bring Novus Inceptio back toward its original vision. These are Mastný’s account of the project’s history and his plans, rather than independently verified employment or medical findings.
What changed in the October 2026 update?
PC Gamer reports that the map grew from 9 km² to 64 km² and that combat was rebuilt. Those are the reported headline changes, not a complete changelog: the available report does not establish every change in the update. PC Gamer’s update coverage

The scale of the map expansion is substantial, but the figures alone do not show how the larger world is populated or how combat plays after its rebuild. The report supplies no detailed breakdown of those systems, so it is best to treat the map and combat descriptions as the scope of the reported changes rather than a full account of their implementation.
Is Novus Inceptio still in Early Access?
Yes. Steam continues to list Novus Inceptio as an Early Access game. The October update and renewed development do not, by themselves, indicate that the game has left Early Access or reached a final release. Steam store page

Does Novus Inceptio have co-op?
Steam lists single-player. PC Gamer reports that co-op is planned, but the reporting does not establish that co-op is playable now or give a delivery schedule. Players should distinguish the listed single-player feature from the future co-op plan. Steam store page PC Gamer’s report

PC Gamer reports that Mastný posted “Please give Novus one more chance” on Steam on October 5, 2026. His appeal accompanies renewed work, not a commitment to a particular outcome. In the interview, he said, “I can’t promise anything and I don’t want to,” and suggested skeptical players watch whether development continues. PC Gamer’s report and interview
