Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version launched on Nintendo Switch on February 27, 2026. They are separate digital releases of the 2004 Game Boy Advance remakes, and Nintendo says both are also supported on Nintendo Switch 2.
What’s included in the Switch releases?
FireRed and LeafGreen return to the Kanto region and the original 151 Pokémon. Nintendo released them as distinct editions rather than as one combined package. The Switch versions are downloadable-only, not physical cartridges, according to Nintendo’s February 20, 2026 announcement and its investor release schedule.

Which edition and language should you buy?
Choose between FireRed and LeafGreen based on your preferred edition. The official sources cited here confirm separate releases but do not provide a complete list of version-exclusive Pokémon, so check an official version-specific availability guide if exclusives will determine your choice.
Language is a separate purchase decision: Nintendo says the games have no in-game language setting, and English, French, and Spanish editions are listed. Availability varies by region, so confirm the selected language and regional listing before purchasing. Nintendo’s announcement also notes that the language releases cannot be changed in-game.

How do multiplayer and Nintendo Switch 2 support work?
Nintendo describes local wireless trading and battling, replacing the original Game Link Cable setup. The US listing specifies local wireless play for two to five players; that detail is from the US English FireRed product page and should not be assumed to describe every regional listing.
Nintendo’s US store lists compatibility with Nintendo Switch 2 and says game behavior is consistent with Nintendo Switch. The same US listing gives the English FireRed download size as 39 MB and lists TV, tabletop, and handheld modes. These are US product-page details, not a promise that every regional edition has identical listing information.

Is Pokémon HOME available?
Nintendo’s store and the official Japanese Pokémon page say Pokémon HOME connectivity is planned for October 2026. As of October 8, 2026, those pages do not confirm a specific activation date or establish that the connection is live. Treat October as the announced target, not a confirmed available feature. See the Nintendo US listing and official Pokémon page for updates.
What changes after completing the game?
According to the official Japanese Pokémon page, the Switch releases automatically add the Mystery Ticket and Aurora Ticket to the Bag after the player reaches the Hall of Fame. Those tickets enable the related encounters for Ho-Oh, Lugia, and Deoxys.

Price, availability, and sales
Both games are sold separately as digital downloads. Check your local Nintendo store for current availability and price, since pricing differs by region and can change. Nintendo’s February 20, 2026 announcement gave a suggested launch-week retail price of CAD $29.99 in Canada; that was a Canada-specific launch-week figure, not a current or universal price.
Nintendo reported that FireRed and LeafGreen together exceeded 4 million units in global cumulative sell-through during their first six weeks after release. This is a combined six-week figure from Nintendo’s May 2026 investor presentation, not a current lifetime sales total: Nintendo investor presentation.
