In the reported Switch behavior, Roar still ends the encounter, but the Pokémon can be tracked and encountered again. The change therefore appears to prevent a failed battle from costing the player that legendary; it does not stop Roar or make the Pokémon easier to catch in that battle.
How certain is the Switch fix?
GamesRadar+ attributes the claim to gameplay footage and testing by a YouTube creator, including tracking attempts involving Arena Trap, Sand Tomb, and Mean Look; the report says Raikou reappeared and could be tracked. That is useful evidence of the behavior, but it is not an official technical statement. Nintendo’s support FAQ says Switch game content is broadly the same as the original releases while allowing that some specifications may differ; it does not specifically confirm a Roar Glitch fix.

Which FireRed and LeafGreen versions does this apply to?
Nintendo announced the Switch releases on February 20, 2026, and The Pokémon Company dated its release announcement February 27, 2026. These are individually sold, digital-only versions, available in English, French, or Spanish. They play on Nintendo Switch systems and Nintendo Switch 2. The Pokémon Company describes them as a return to Kanto more than 20 years after the Game Boy Advance releases. A physical Switch copy is not part of the announced release.

Is the Roar Glitch related to the event legendary encounters?
No. The Roar Glitch concerns roaming Entei or Raikou fleeing a battle. Separately, The Pokémon Company says that after defeating the Elite Four and entering the Hall of Fame, players automatically receive a Mystic Ticket in the Key Items pocket for Lugia and Ho-Oh encounters, and an Aurora Ticket for a Deoxys encounter. Those ticket-based event encounters are not the roaming glitch.
