That confirms the broad island-and-ocean setting hinted at by an earlier leak—but not the leaked claims about a real-world inspiration, an exact island count, or specific map and story details.
What did the original Gen 10 setting leak claim?
On October 14, 2024, ComicBook.com reported that Centro Leaks, citing files said to come from the Game Freak hack, claimed the next mainline Pokémon region would be an archipelago: a collection or chain of islands. The report did not establish how many islands there would be or how much of the game would involve water travel, and it cautioned that the information was unofficial and development plans could change. What is confirmed about Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves?
The Pokémon Company’s announced Gen 10 games are Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves. They are scheduled for simultaneous worldwide release in 2027 and are exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2, according to TechRadar’s announcement coverage. The official description quoted there says the games “feature an open world to explore, with beautiful windswept islands and a vast ocean with glittering waves.”
This confirms the broad setting: islands and ocean in an open world. It does not establish the region’s real-world inspiration, how many islands are on the map, or what role water travel plays.

Are the games based on Greece or Southeast Asia?
Neither location is confirmed by the sources cited here. A ComicBook.com report on April 25, 2025 described an unofficial claim that the project—then referred to by the codename Gaia—would draw inspiration from the Cyclades, a Greek island group. In October 2025, VICE summarized different leak claims placing the setting in Southeast Asia, alongside alleged plot, hub, jungle, and procedural-island details. VICE cautioned that much of the material came from 2021 documents and might have changed during development. VICE’s report The Greece and Southeast Asia claims conflict, so neither should be treated as the confirmed location or inspiration for Winds and Waves.

How many islands will Pokémon Winds and Waves have?
No exact number is officially established. A Notebookcheck report dated October 3, 2026 described an unverified beta-dialogue leak that reportedly referred to “around 100 islands.” It also noted earlier leak material suggesting 17–18 islands and that the material may come from a 2024 build or earlier. Those figures are competing leak claims, not a confirmed specification. The official description confirms islands in the open world but gives no count.
