Pokémon GO’s Dark Skies was a five-day lead-in to GO Fest 2025: Max Finale, running August 18–23, 2025. Its main draw was the return of Dynamax Pokémon in Max Battles, alongside a linked GO Pass and a changing raid lineup. The event and its pass have ended; the details below are a historical guide, not a schedule or offer available now.
What was the Pokémon GO Dark Skies event?
Dark Skies was the lead-in event for GO Fest 2025: Max Finale, which followed on August 23–24, 2025. The official event announcement set Dark Skies for August 18 at 10:00 a.m. through August 23 at 10:00 a.m. local time. Max Finale ran both days from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. local time and was described as an unticketed, worldwide event accessible with a free GO Pass.

Trainers level 13 and above could take part in the weeklong progression and battle activities. The event page’s promotional heading was “Dark Skies herald dark days”; in practical terms, the event centered on Max Battles and the buildup to the weekend finale.
What were the main Max Battle bonuses?
Dynamax Pokémon returned to Max Battles during Dark Skies and Max Finale. The announcement said Power Spots would be more active, refresh more often, and allow an increased Max Particle collection limit. A separate bonus raised the Remote Raid Pass limit to 30 from August 18 through August 22, 2025.

Timed Research during Dark Skies focused on winning Max Battles. Its rewards included Zacian Candy and Zamazenta Candy, as well as encounters with Grookey, Scorbunny, and Sobble.
Successful catches in Max Battles during the Dark Skies and Max Finale events could have a chance to receive a special background. These were commemorative backgrounds visible on the caught Pokémon’s summary page; receiving one was not guaranteed.

How did the GO Pass: Max Finale work?
The GO Pass linked the lead-in event to the finale. The free, limited-time progression track ran from August 18 at 10:00 a.m. through August 24 at 9:00 p.m. local time. Players earned GO Points by completing tasks, including winning Max Battles. Points had a daily cap from August 18–22; the official announcement said the cap was removed from midnight August 23 until the pass ended.

Rewards unlocked on either track expired August 26, 2025, at 9:00 p.m. local time. The offer is over, so its Deluxe upgrade and rewards should not be mistaken for a current purchase or progression option.

Which Pokémon appeared in raids?
Zacian and Zamazenta rotated through five-star raids, with special evening Raid Hours for their Crowned forms. The official raid schedule specified:

An independent event listing also reported these event Pokémon:
- Increased wild spawns: Grookey, Scorbunny, Sobble, Skwovet, and Wooloo.
- One-star raids: Sinistea.
- Three-star raids: Galarian Farfetch’d and Galarian Weezing.
What was the Dynamax Max Battle lineup?
The official event page presented daily Dynamax battle lineups for the Dark Skies and Max Finale period. Because those lineups changed by day, a single list would not describe every event date accurately. Consult the dated schedule in the official event announcement for the specific day’s roster rather than assuming the opening-day lineup continued throughout the event.

Can you still play Dark Skies or claim its rewards?
No. Dark Skies ran August 18–23, 2025, and the linked GO Pass ended August 24; its rewards expired August 26, 2025. The cited event materials do not establish whether Dark Skies will return or whether a similar pass will be offered in the future. Check a current official Pokémon GO announcement for any later event or rerun.
