“It’s a Rocket World” is a five-stage Pokémon GO Special Research story from the March 2024 World of Wonders: Taken Over event. Its tasks progress from catching and purifying Pokémon to defeating Team GO Rocket Leaders Arlo, Cliff, and Sierra, then finding and defeating Giovanni. The event listing’s deadline to claim the research was June 1, 2024, at 9:59 a.m. local time; that deadline has passed. The available information does not establish whether players who claimed it in time can still complete it.

Each numbered stage below lists its individual task rewards first, followed by the reward for completing the full stage.
Stage 1 of 5
- Catch 15 Pokémon — 5 Pinap Berries.
- Purify 2 Shadow Pokémon — 10 Poké Balls.
- Defeat 3 Team GO Rocket Grunts — 1 Mysterious Component.
Stage completion: 1,500 XP and an Aipom encounter.
Stage 2 of 5
- Catch 20 Pokémon — 5 Pinap Berries.
- Purify 5 Shadow Pokémon — 10 Great Balls.
- Defeat 6 Team GO Rocket Grunts — 3 Mysterious Components.
Stage completion: 2,000 XP and a Misdreavus encounter.
Stage 3 of 5
- Defeat Team GO Rocket Leader Arlo — 2,500 XP.
- Defeat Team GO Rocket Leader Cliff — 2,500 XP.
- Defeat Team GO Rocket Leader Sierra — 2,500 XP.
Stage completion: 2,500 XP and 1 Super Rocket Radar.

How to find Giovanni with the Super Rocket Radar
The stage 3 reward is a Super Rocket Radar, used to search for Giovanni. It does not point only to Giovanni: the Pokémon GO Help Center explains that it shows both Giovanni’s actual Hideout and decoy Grunts disguised as him. Approach the marked PokéStops and investigate to identify the real Hideout. See Niantic’s Team GO Rocket Leaders & Giovanni help article.
To be assigned Giovanni Special Research, a Trainer must have completed “A Troubling Situation,” according to the same Help Center article. The task sequence in this research separately calls for finding, battling, and defeating the Boss in stage 4.

Rocket Radar basics for the Leader battles
Stage 3 requires defeating all three Leaders. For ordinary Leader encounters, the Help Center says six Mysterious Components can be combined to make a Rocket Radar. The Radar is consumed when a Leader is defeated, not when a battle is lost. These are general Rocket progression mechanics, distinct from the Special Research task list.

The research was associated with the March 2024 World of Wonders: Taken Over event. The event listing gave players until June 1, 2024, at 9:59 a.m. local time to claim “It’s a Rocket World.” As that date has passed, new claims are outside the published window; the available sources do not say whether previously claimed research remains completable.

Pokémon GO’s official Taken Over announcement also described paid Timed Research and a Rocket bundle offered during that 2024 event. Those were historical offers, separate from this Special Research, and their listed Timed Research deadline was March 31, 2024.
